I went into this sandwich bar and ordered an egg sandwich, the woman behind the till was eating a sandwich and started to make mine without washing her hands first, sink and liquid soap was besides her.
I said 'are you not going to wash your hands first'
she said 'if you don't like it you can piss off and get it somewhere else'
needless to say I took her up on her offer.
so Ive been wondering how many of us would say something in the first place, started a poll about it, look up

Very good move. Do you really want a person like that's energy in what you are eating?
I think you did the right thing.
The best is the places where they wear the gloves but then handle the Money with the gloves on?

thats horrible - you should get the name and report the shop or go to the manager - she could be spreading (hahaha sandwich) some very nasty stuff

yea, i'd probably ask them to wash their hands or put gloves on...but if its a place i go to everyday, i think i'd be a bit more leniant though.
You should call the manager and make a complaint, not that I am one to bitch but that's gross.

yea i'd get the manager involved..& if she was the manager i'd take some other action like a consumer advocacy thing, or even 1 of those things they have on th e news..ya know those tip thingies where they investigate consumer complaints & expose them on the news
what she did is not just ignorant & gross, but also illegal & could cost the shop theyre business if like a health inspector saw that
even though u walked out without paying, you still have the option & possibly even the responsibility to go back & bring it to the attention of the manager

that's really nasty
even when I worked at subway, I always wore those delightful gloves. money's dirty, humans are dirty, it's just gross to not protect your hands somehow

Make a complaint to the manager, or get code enforcement on the place! God only knows what else is going on there if the bitch isn't washing her hands!

Don't know if it's worth the bother of reporting... my 'response' might be ongoing word of mouth advertising to dissuade others from patronizing the place.
Two things come to mind:
1- Food service people should be in the habit of hand washing before each order.
2- Customer service calls for some people skills which the woman clearly lacks. She has no business dealing with people and is in the wrong line of work.

yeah I agree, although I don't suppose these small places who are basically family run, bother much with customer service training.
it would be interesting to know wether bigger business's that do train people actually have a larger percentage of customers because of it

No just two of the most common elements. I was trying to politely ask what you do without being overt so you could answer the question with as much detail as you feel comfortable with and not feel put on the spot.
Some people are so picky!

Next time that happens pretend to sneeze and wipe your nose with the money you are about to give them. Then when they look at you wierd tell them that since they didn't bother to wash their hands before touching your food you didn't think they would mind other peoples germs.

that's crazy she wouldn't wash her hands... around here it's a critical violation if you switch gloves without washing your hands (even if you washed your hands before putting on the first gloves and don't touch anything between, but are only switching gloves because the first pair got a messy)

It makes no sense why she would say such a thing to you. How on earth can she run a business with no regard for food hygiene?

Well, I can admit in all honesty, I rarely wear gloves at work, but the working conditions I'm under are horrible at the current moment in time, the worst being the temperature in the main area of the store is 81 degrees on cool days and up to 95 degrees (F) or more on hot ones, and god only knows what temp it is back in the kitchen, and the gloves make it worse, plus they're vinyl and I work the fry side and I've read that wearing vinyl is all fine and good when dealing with cold food, but when heated can release some pretty toxic chemicals into the food. I hate using the stupid things for anything but dressing the burgers, though that's about the only time I grab food with my hands. Anyway, the point of this whole thing is, I still wash my hands everytime I even see the sink. They're finally getting used to all the abuse, lol.

i'm not a high stickler or anything. i have a fantastic immune system. but watching something like that would turn me off my food. can't help it. i wouldn't think they were gross or anything. it would just be the POTENTIAL that they were gross that would freak me out. what i don't know doesn't bother me, to be fully honest. i don't wash my hands unless i've handled uncooked meat when i'm fixing dinner. unless i'm cooking for company, then i'm pretty stringent on my hand and counter cleanliness.
