Drinking Absinthe

Is there any precautions that should be taken? eg. stop drinking after a couple even if can't feel the effects cos blocked by thujone?
Is it different from other hard alcohol?
What does it feel like?

Anything bad? only if you want it to. I don't think there is enough Thujone relative to the Alcohol for it to matter - unless you have a supply of ancient absinthe. It's just about how much how quickly and whether you have eaten or taken any drugs that could potentiate or antagonise the effects.
Mood, company and surroundings can make a big difference -
Oh and if you keep a bottle of Stolly in the freezer and down a decent sized shot the combination of chilled spirit and a warming sensation when it hits the gut ----

THe absinth buzz is definantly there.. but something to the power of taking a small hit of weed. The buzz is similar, but very clean with clear thoughts. If you drink too much of it you will loose some of the subtle effects by the booze buzz. Enjoy!

So I had my old lady bring me back a few bottles from her trip to Europe a few winters ago. She brought back four different brands. Two were cheap and two were expensive.

I drank em all and noticed very little difference between drinking absinthe and drinking whisky or any other liquor. The taste is fairly distinct but the fun of absinthe is not in the drunk, but in the drink. The level of thujone in any bottle of absinthe you are going to drink is not going to make you 'van gogh' yourself. Don't worry about that.

It has a lot of history and getting ready to drink a glass is almost a religious experience if you have the proper equipment.

don't buy it.it's usually crap.make it.it's easyer than twisting your nipple.

get 1l of vodka.
get 1 bag (300 g ) of wormwood (arthemisia absinthium) tea.
get some anise (200 g)
get good flavoured stuff for seasoning (mint,lemon peels,whatever)

put all in the vodka;let it steep for a week or more.

get a 2 m long,2 cm wide hose.
get a 0.5 m long,20-25 cm wide tube.if you can't get one,make one from a bucket or something.
get a pot.a cooking pot.
get some ice.
get a wooden board.

make a hole in the board.put one end of the hose in the hole,make sure it's air tight.at 0.5 m from the board,coil 1 m of the hose through the tube.put a bottle under the other end of the hose.
put the 1 week or more old mixture in the pot,put board on top of the pot,put tube horizontally,fill tube with ice,put bottle under the other end of the hose,boil mixture at low fire.tube should be the highest part of the installation,leaning towards the bottle end.
you should get 0.5 l of greenish-milky stuff,smells like medicine and tastes like fire,gives your sight a new depth.that's your home-made absinth.drink with water and sugar.don't forget the sugar.

Thujone is not the active ingredient in absinthe. Alcohol is. The fact that it is 53% is what gets you off, not any bogus marketing hype about hallucinations, etc. Making your own swill is bunk. You can't put herbs in vodka/151/NGS and call it absinthe. It should be distilled.

i've drunk real absinthe and it's pretty much the same as drinking regular booze, the origin of the so-called "effects" is early 20th century propaganda. my guess is that most of the effects that differ from those of regular alcoholic beverages are the result of a placebo effect.

I dont agree at all, while most absinthe you can get online is in the 10 mg range, which is what most people can afford cuz its like 40-70$ a bottle. there are two that I have tried that are in the 190-220$ range and they are about 100mg-110mg....they are Zele Premium and King of Spirits GOLD.
so, if you are willing to pay the price ,you get real absinthe, but don't expect "green fairys". It really is a clear headed, creative energetic drunkeness, slight visual enhancements, music is better. so yes, the alcohol plays a role as well but if you get the real stuff and dont over do it...(take like 2 or 3 drinks)..you will see. So spend the 200$ and get the real stuff. All the other is BS hype to make dumb americans buy it. just like the cannabis vodka...yes ,you can get it shipped to the USA.
one more thing soaking wormwood is not absibnthe...so dont count that as a trial either.
Have fun, be safe ,the 2 brands i use are like 170 proof..so dont hurt yourself

I had absinthe when I was buzzing on E..
I also had it a few days later. Nothing special, a nice feeling a pleasantly mellow buzz. I couldn't say it felt exactly like any other beer or liquor, but these stories about people seeing green fairies and loosing their sanity make me quite frankly piss myself laughing.

i drank 7 shots of 70% absinth and a scotch and half a beer in 4.5 hours, after taking ritalin all day. i was in a bar type place, stacked it a few times, lucky i wasnt kicked out. ended up doin a runner on a taxi which wouldve cost me $30

good night... all ill drink now is absinth. 60AU for a bottle of 70% green fairy.
