Kif to Hash.... how to?

My friend has got all this leftover kif and we're wondering how we can turn that into some good hash. As easy as possible, but we're not lazy or cheap. Help would be wonderful. Thanks.

If you still want to turn it into hash get a pollen press. It kind of looks like a nitrous cracker, you put your kief in there and screw down a carbon cylinder which compresses it into nice little discs of hash.

^^^that would just compresses it into a little disc of keif. Hash isn't keif.

To make hash out of keif I think you have to heat it up until it feels kind of gummy, then compress it into a disc or a block. Im not sure if thats the most efficient way but thats one method.

Define hash then, it's just collected trichs. Bubble hash is made by extracting them in water/ice, no heat involved there.

But making hash with it won't really increase the potency. It just seems like a waste of time to me.

It'a already hash.
If your trying to process it into an easier to handle form (like a chunk):

1) Wrap it TIGHTLY in paper and compress/melt it with a steam iron.

2) let it dry and cool COMPLETELY

3) unwrap

4) send a sample to me for inspection!

Geko has the best fucking ideas, now I feel like a moron. I was trying to press a few grams of kief together for easier transportation awhile back and went with the whole "pile a ton of books on top of it" route, which didn't go too well. An iron, who would have thought...

2) let it dry and cool COMPLETELY

3) unwrap

4) send a sample to me for inspection!I tried this method yesterday... I had a ''wafer'' of kief pressed with a beer bottle , and did the iron method with it wrapped in foil, for 45 seconds, alterning on and off every 2 secs.. It changed color and smell, but was still very powdery! I though it would make sometn I could roll into a ball but nah...Not resinous enough! Not even sticky when heated!

We suspect that the trim we used to make the kief had already been used to make resin with some solvent (found in my gf's backyard, in a coke bottle hmm). It was dried but there was a perforation in the bottle. The stuff had absolutely no smell.

Could that be a reason for the unstickiness??

Yea best way is what geck said. You wrap it up and shit and heat til it starts becoming more squishy like putty and you press it while it's hot then let it chill.... works wonders.

I'm wondering if a straightening iron would work. I bought one from the Salvation Army a while ago for 50 cents brand new. Never used it, but it does work. I just thought I might need it someday (Packrat)

Ehh might get too hot unless you have the hash wrapped in turkey bag plastic (made to withstand temperatures around 500 i think)

your mistake was the aluminum foil and no steam.

it must be wraped in paper, or some other porus material. The iron must be filled with liquid and placed on the steam setting.

While the heat from the iron is melting the resins, the super-hot moisture from the steam seeps in, insuring a more uniform melting, and also keeping it from burning. some moisture content is nessacry for the chunk to retain it's integrity.

heating a hard chunk of hash in al foil is an excellent way to prepare it for smoking. The hash is dried out and loses it's cohesion- it falls apart (as well as burns better).

^^^^bad idea. you dont want moisture in yer product. moisture causes mildew and mold. ive been makin' a bunch of different kinds of hash this harvest. yer best bet for kief is this.


double bag small ammount of kief and tie it off so its airtight( dont throw too much in at once as you want to make sure it gets pressed the whole way through. you dont want a crumbly powdery middle)

dip bag in boiling water for 30 seconds
quickly quickly quickly place between two hardwood boards
C-clamp the boards together as tight as you can and with as many c clamps as you can
leave sit clamped for a half hour
the end result is super dense pressed hash that usually tastes like pixie stix to me.
it may take a few times to get the process down. its all trial and error till ya get it right. this is the easiest way that ive found. where im at (humbolt ca) no one really smokes pressed hash too much. its all ice hash and bubble hash up here. mmm bubble hash

the keif/hash will stick to the foil and cause a mess unless its non stick foil, ya gotta use non stick

unless for some reason your hell bent on hash, i would say just smoke it. I guess its fun to try every once in a while, but i see no real point. Just makes smoking seem more complicated.....but thats just my .02

You mean just smoke the kif?

I find hash is way more convenient than kif, you can make a lump with it, and it burns good.

Its also fun to process the whole thing :p

i guess it depends on the person. The process is fun, but i only smoke in my house, and within arms length of my grinder, so i just sprinkle it all over everything i smoke...and its all good. Im lazy too...

a little late to the party, but happy april twentieth in the year of our lord two thousand seven....

anyway, my method is this,

to convert kiefy powder to gummy cakes pile it into the middle of a large steel spoon, then cook over an unscented candle while pressing/chopping/flipping/stirring with a smaller spoon. if it starts smoking its getting too hot, just chill for a minute. watch it change colors and get darker, stickier, it will cook down into a smaller more solid mass than whatcha started with. an electric stove coil would probably work for this process too

....why would somebody wanna bother, though?

because the flavor is different, it burns way longer, and is far easier to handle than a powder

The only reason to make hash from kief is to have it more compact and easier to carry. I used to carry around a film canister with a bunch of kief balls, then just load them into my cigarette one-hitter.

Hash are trichomes extracted from buds before it undergoes any kind of combustion process.
Kief is what's left after smoking a nugget or hash and it's basically a mix of tar , thc and little to no, other cannabinoids.
So IMO you cant turn kief into hash. What you are trying to do here is compress the kief into blocks so that it's easier to carry around. So I would just scrape the kief off the bowl , roll it into little balls with my fingers and keep doing this untill I have one decent sized kief ball. dont expect it to get you nearly as high as some good hash would,though ;)

I put my kief in celophane a few weeks ago in a ball, then heated it with a lighter and made the hash hard as a rock. But last night I tried the same thing and the kief just wouldn't stick together at all.

oops sorry I feel like an ass....No need, kif in originating countries sometimes means a crude mixture of stems buds and leaves chopped up. Slang depends on where you're from.

As far as the kif not sticking, you might have been doing something a little wrong. What I used to do when I smoked, to make hash balls on the fly out of kif, I'd:

Put the kif in a regular thickness rolling paper start to roll it back and forth to start forming it. Hold al ighter underneath it to add heat while you roll it like you're rolling the tightest joint you have ever rolled, rolling slowly so it heats up a lot. You should end up with a dark brown log that can be pressed into a little ball.

I do this all the time with the Kif that I collect with my Wicca box.

1. Take a small sheet of aluminum foil and fold it over twice making a 6"x6" square.
2. Place a nice sized amount of Kif powder in the middle of the sheet in the fold.
3. Fold the sheet of foil over with the hash in the middle and flatten to semi seal it.
4. Use the side of a Bic lighter to press and smooth it flat and fairly even.
5. Gently heat the foil with the lighter only applying it a few seconds at a time, do both sides a few times. You just want to heat it enough to press it.
6. While it is still warm from heating use the lighter again to press on the foil, this time press very firmly and smooth it across the foil.
7. Carefully peel the foil back and gently pry the melted kif/hash from the foil.
8. Roll it up in to a nice ball.
9. Enjoy.

rub your hands together till they are nice and warm, pile kief in palm, knead into a disk, fold it up, rub hash off hand and thumb and smash it on the main blob, keep working it till it darkens and it doesnt crack when you squish it.
