a friend of mine is thinking of doing an outdoor grow. He was telling me he might wanna do skunk or early skunk because it was realitively easy and early. If he does it I think he wants a lot maitenance, easy strain. suggestions?

Tell your friend--before s/he does anything else, read everything they can re: cultivation.

Low maintenence? Hmmmm, are they aware that they will have to dig holes and haul around heavy sacks of potting soil? Do they know that outdoor plants need water every 2 or 3 days? Do they know that to get a good yield they will have to plant in late April/early May and take care of their plants for 6 & 1/2 months?
Do they know what kind of potting soil and fertilizer to buy, and how to amend soil? Do they know how to select a location?

As for strain I suggest Northern Lights. Easy to grow, very forgiving, hardy, great yield, superb taste, and potent.

A lot is dependent upon your location.

What part of the world will this hypothetical grow take place in?

Is there farming in the area? A desert? Does it freeze? Flood? How hot does it get in July?

Soil may be the major consideration one place, water in another, and wildlife in yet another. Probably, all three of those things will require "adjustments". Then again, maybe not.

And what of security?

An outdoor grow needs to be planned out area-specific with those things in mind; soil, water (that includes drainage), wildlife, and security.

Find and fix a spot, and then worry about the technical aspects of growing.
After all- it doesn't matter what you know until you've got place to grow!
