I remember morphine when I was in the hospital for surgery. They had me on an IV pump. The way it worked was that it would give me a slow constant drip, and I had a hand switch that I could use to give myself an extra boost when I needed it, up to a certain limit. I think maybe 4 boosts every 90 minutes or so. And believe me, I had that thing maxed out. I was on that pump for 2 days. Man, that shit had me buggin'. For one thing, it completely warped my sense of time. For example, I would look at the clock and it would be 1 AM. Then I'd go on the nod, and gray out into my own little world. I'd come out of that, and think maybe 3-4 hours had passed. So I'd look at the clock, and shit, it's only been 10 minutes. That sucks when you're in a lot of pain, in spite of the drugs. That shit made me hallucinate too. Not like acid though. On morphine you think it's real. I heard nurses saying the most horrible shit about me, plain as day. But there was nobody in the room. I asked the nurse about it the next morning, and she said yeah, that's a common side effect of morphine. And one night, I was laying there and heard a raging thunderstorm outside (it was early February with 6" of snow on the ground). Suddenly, the window blew open, and I was getting rained on. I was drenched, and it was SO real. I hit the nurse call button, but by the time she showed up, it was gone. She had a good laugh at that one.

i'm getting a prescription for 80mg oc later today (or tomorrow depending on how busy i am today) but for me hydrocodone and meperidine (demerol) had almost the same high. Both made me mellow and love listening to music. however, demerol had two differences which is that one my short term memory was completely obliterated (while i was on it) and two it made me not make sense to other people what i was saying. Also when i took 400mg of demerol (8 50mg's) when it kicked in i was sitting on my leather sofa and i all the sudden didn't want to get up, like i was mentally glued to the couch. Oh and one more thing, on demerol, it did feel stronger than hydrocodone for the reasons above and also because i was so happy, even happier than being on 85mg of hydrocodone.


So how does oc fit into this? what does it feel like? and how does it compare to demerol and hydrocodone?

Hydrocodone. Not only a good painkiller, but with alcohol evolves into a mellow, happy, somewhat speedy buzz. It makes you want to get up and do things, like clean your house. There's a hell of a sedative after-effect, though, and it lasts for around 48 hours. Which is OK, because it makes for good sleeping. But you've gotta be careful when doing such things as driving. It sneaks up on you. One minute you're wide awake, then boom, you're nodding off.

Good ole' Codeine, I don't mind the itchies. It was a hard one to pick between that and Oxycodone. I'm afraid to take Fentanyl because I read on a medical site that it's not recommended for those whom aren't used to taking large doses or higher strength pain killers. Though I have a high tolerance to Opium/Opiates/Opioids I don't think I could safely take Fentanyl.

I picked hydrocodone because it's the easiest thing for me to get for relief. Had a nasty car accident, severe whiplash, bruised spine. I get oxy's sometimes, but...If I'm overdoing it for a buzz I prefer hydrocodone anyways...I'm just not sure why. Maybe someone can give me a better idea of why..?
I have had morphine before. Thing is, if you're in enough pain, none of this shit really gets you all that fucked up. If you do a bit more than you need it does. Smokin' some herb helps.

Dilaudid is my favorite, but vicodin is my choice for every day. It helps me get through every crappy day at work. If I did dilaudid every day at work, I would just smile at everyone and play on the computer all day (not a bad idea).

But I have taken some form of opiate under a doc's care and had it paid for by medical insurance since 1974.

Naww.... with all the other meds I pump thru my body on a daily basis (propoxyphene amitriptyline, desipramine, prolixin, Cymbalta, Ambien) I can skip a few days with no oxy without any withdrawal.

That doesn't mean I don't WANT some, but I don't have any physical symptoms of any kind.

I try to "conserve my 300 capsule oxy supply to last 30 days, then have to drive an hour to my neurologist's office to pick up the script for a refill. They'll mail it to me, but that takes another 2-3 days! Damn DEA!!!!

I drank 120mg of hydrocodone in one sitting and was fukt up for over 15 hours, because it is XR. Tramadol's cool, but it's technically not an opiate. It's a synthetic opiate designed to potentiate real opiates.

I prefer Oxy to H or dillies, just because of the speediness that comes with it. If I do an 80 at work I bust some ass. If I do some H I just want to go home and lounge. Now I do 100mg of methadone a day and it blocks everything else. No high off of the done either, just feel happy again like before i was an addict. Best choice I eer made. I was on Suboxone. Even on 24mg a day I still had cravings like mad. When I made the switch I felt way better. Too bad Done has the worst wd's of any opiate hands down. Gonna take about a year to comfortably titrate from 100-0mg. I need to IV about 160mg of oc to break throgh the done, not even worth it.

Codeine gives me fucked up stomach pains, and I get all edgy and fidgetty as fuck.
Sampled it a few times before sitting in a pub, and it just isn't fun.

So, here is how this went for me. I am in my late 30's now. I used to drink and smoke weed when I was younger, that was pretty much it.


Well, around age 30, the ole body starts breaking down from years of football and weights. First, my wisdom teeth (yes, blessed i had them so long) start going. The doc gives me these pills called hydrocodone.

Ihated them. They did nothing for my pain and made me sick.

Fast forward 8 years later and degenerative disk disease on top of arthritis and I have pretty much survived on these pills. I not only love them, they are extremelly effective. Addicted? Yes. I would go through as many as 12 10mg hydros a day sometimes and other times, not so many. But as things go, my latest rop has closed its doors and I am sick of the BS associated with getting yet another (hence my begging post about poppy pods)

So I have not had any in umm...10 days or so. Uncomfortable, sure but not so bad. My little brother was a heroin junkie at a younger age and almost dies several times. He is one of the lucky ones and actually rehab'd and had it stick ( on the 5th or 6th attempt). I watched him w/d...now that was rough. The hydros are cake.

Anyway, yup, its the hydros that do it for me. Hopefully, I will be able to comment on the pods if I ever find any.

I used to take Pain Killing pills (Tylenol 3's, Vikes, and Oxy) in high school. I tried Herion twice didnt like having to shoot it up made me feel kinda dirty afterwards for a high that wasnt better then oxy besides the fact that it was immediate. My Junior year though i got stabbed in the back and it cut my nerves. I started taking morphine I was a big fan but being so young my doctors didnt think it was a good long term Drug. I have taken Oxys 80 and 160's, Percs and Norcos. Mostly percs and Norcos now and i really love both of them alot they are my favs. Oxys leave me tired an unable to wake up Morphines the same. Smoking or shooting opium just isnt for me, and niether is snorting oxy. I think Demerol is awesome. But Norcos and Oxycodones are just perfect.

So I have not had any in umm...10 days or so. Uncomfortable, sure but not so bad. Because it has such a long half life the withdrawal is not so bad but just drags on and on for months. You can fluctuate the doseage quite widely over a few days because of this. Crossing over to other, natural opiates, does give cross tolerance but you may have some typical withdrawal feelings from hydrocodone...usually frequenting toilet and sweats. Dextroproproxyphene is close to hydrocodne but much weeker, methadone and any of the others ending in 'done' mask any ill effect well as they are similar structurally. Sounds nonesense but simple painkillers do help and treating withdrawal symptomatically does work ( immodium for stomach etc ) ...valium, or most benzodiazepines, are excellent for the anxiety. Just wondered if you can get squll opiate linctus ( gees linctus another term ) there...that does help but can disturb some peoples stomach due to squill in it. Codeine is a wast of time. Good luck

Maybe the reason know one voted for fentanyl is because they don't want to end up in a Coma for a week or even worse 6ft under. Fentanyl is one of the most powerful opiates out there.It is so dam easy to OD from also. Fentanyl is not a drug to be fucked with. Sure if you are a Hard core Herion addict and have a huge tolerance for opiates you can pop a patch on to not get sick. but ounce you start trying to get high off it and shoot it up odds are you going to OD or die. and if you are going to pop on a Fentanyl patch you better not be doing any other opiates for 48 to 72 Hours. I chose heroin, f**k knows why though! I've had an on/off heroin and crack addiction since being 16 and believe me, none of the above options are "good." Yeah, don't get me wrong like, the f****n buzz from jackin the shit up is the best ya gonna get but the addiction that comes with it is the worst ya ever gonna get. Take it from me, I'm nearly 22 now and I haven't got a habbit back (at the moment) but I still dabble now and again ("once a junkie always a junkie" and all that shit) but opiates ain't big, they're f****n whack!!! I was put on a morphine pump after a surgery I had. When you're in pain, you dont really get to enjoy whatever high that pain med gives you, at least with morphine you dont. I was only on it for two days, and I too used it to the max, but it didn't take my pain away completely, I was still uncomfortable. My sense of time was definitely messed up. I was in the hospital for a week, but I never got restless or bored, I was probably fucked up on the pain medicine as well as just wanting to sleep, so I didn't mind being stuck there. If I hallucinated, I don't remember it.

I love Oxycodone, both in IR and ER forms. Right now i'm taking oxy for baseline pain and percocett for breakthru - hopefully my pain doc is going to up my dose soon, i'm starting to take a lot of perc's, tolerance just goes up wayyy too fast. Only other things i've had the privalege to enjoy are dilaudid (in a hospital), codeine, hydrocodone (vicoprofen, vicodin), and tramadol. Codeine just doesn't cut it, and with tylenol #3's, there's too much apap. hydro kills my pain, but doesn't make me feel high in the leasst bit. and tramadol, as someone noted earlier, is only effective in the +300mg range. Oh, and methadone just gives me a WICKED headache the next day - not worth it.

But yes, oxycodone is my drug of choice - hands down. even after taking it every day for months, I can still blow myself out of the wataer with 30-40mgs. Pretty good i'd say. And my insurance pays: $15 for 2000mgs... percs have apap in it to much eats up you liver

morphine, in very low oral doses... like 5 to 15mg. It causes a gentle warming, relaxation and very little to no side effects at this dose.

it depends. i love codeine because it's good enough for an opiate high yet it doesn't floor you like the stronger varieties. i've had my best experiences on hydrocodone. i've found my perfect dose. from my experience. opiates are a fine line. you take too little and don't feel anything. you take too much and you'll throw up.

oxycodone was good as well. but i ended up throwing up on it. haven't done it enough times to find my dose. i haven't experimented with anything higher than oxycodone and i don't have a real desire to.

Benzo's work wonders when your in the grips of opiate withdrawl.. Also force yourself to drink plenty of water, and if you feel up to it try doing some light exercise, and make your body sweat it out.

I've been there (quit 70mg of Methadone per day cold turkey) and it was so horrible I'm glad I didn't have a gun around or I may not be here typing this today... Just remember that it will pass, especially Oxycodone withdrawl.. not nearly as long-lasting as Methadone.

I just got out of the hospital with a kidney stone. those of you who have had one, enough said.
I have great respect for any woman who has been through childbirth!
Anyway,
My experience (and I think could be useful for off lable use)
1. dauladid kicked my rear end allright, I was gone alright, but since I haven't used opioids except in the few medical things I needed them for, of course I was NOT desensitized as you are (or sensitized, depending on the context)
The key was, my wife had to stay in the room, maintain my airway, keep waking me up to keep breathing to keep my pulse oxymetry measurement above 90%
2. Having kidney problems is bummer when you want pain relieve that can't be given IV. for instance, now about 5 days later, Catheter gone, stent gone (another story as the nurse from hell pulled them out and told me it wouldn't hurt, but also told me to take a deep breath and cope the best I could.......), I am now on percocet 5/325.

The dosage of 4 gms max (or 4000 mg) is the maximum daily recommended dosage for a 150 lb male with everything working normal, normal health and non drinker non smoker no other meds either.
As you mentioned, there is a great variability to what someone SHOULD be able to do and what they can do.
My complications were that I have sleep apnea and as I "relaxed" with the dauladid, the respiratory depression was, well, real.
I have a reasonable tolerance for all this stuff and found the injected Morphine giving the same effect described here "seemed like my mouth wouldn't move and hard to understand me, but seemed to have all other faculties (until I stood up) and also felt sunken into the bed and "SAFER" for some reason that I woudn't fall off the hospital bed.
I always have to take an anti-nausea drug with these.
My Kidney problems were, btw, related to too much daily Ibuprofin. Don't take your kidneys for granted. They can go south in a hurry.
I had been a 52 years old male with no heart disease and 120/80 bp and suddenly, I had pitting edema water accumulation on my ankles and BP increased to 145/93 OVERNIGHT.
went to my (Very good) md, he did everything except think of kidney stone (although my frustration is that I had dark brown urine sporadically for the 2 weeks prior to this episode, take an anti-seizure med known to cause kidney problems including stones, etc and they still did an echo cardiogram, regular blood panels, etc and FOUND ME IN PERFECT HEALTH!

All I really do is oxy and percs but I still picked herion....... hahaha

but anyway, i've only tried oxycodone and hydromorphone,
and being that hydromorphone is not an option,
i'll have to say oxycodone.
even though, like the dude above me said,
heroin would likely be the king of all opiates.
never tried it though...yet anyway.

Oral = Oxycodone

Best for actual pain relief aside from the buzz = Fentanyl

I mean this in both a good and bad way. Heroin is the shit. I find it is much more sedating where as oxy is more of a, not so much speedy but more awake, if u get me. I find them equal but different, and it would take at LEAST 120mg of oxy for me to equal a line of H. They arent big lines either. Its just not something u wanna do everyday.

But like feelings sid. Fent tops them all, but I only had it twice so I don't count it

I've only had H, codeine and meth, H is my fav. I just love that calm feeling it gives me, sadly I'm having to pack it in bacause it's messing me up health wise and also my tolerance means it's costing more and more.
