I'm off to Peru! Going with a great group from school on a month-long hike/community service adventure in South America...we've been planning and raising money for two years. I'm sooo excited.

plus we are the queerest team :P the group leader is my wonderful teacher Thom, who's really influenced our school with his openness, introducing everyone to his partner, starting a GSA, etc. Both of the two guys going are gay, including my best friend (2 guys, 9 girls)...and I'm the only open lesbian, but trust me, I'm not the only one there...more testosterone between the nine of us than in a biker festival, and I soften things up

will tell all about it upon return in early August!

peace out,
Eliza

A few days ago I returned from my month-long expedition in southern Peru. It was by far the most amazing experience of my 17 years of living. I couldn't even go on a computer or anything for a while because it seemed so strange after being in small, rural mountain villages for what seemed like a long period of time.

Among all the obvious cultural adjustments and encounters, one of the most interesting aspects of my traveling was that half our 13-person team was gay. There were no straight guys on the trip...very different dynamics/statistics than in everyday life at work or school. Quite an environment to grow and learn in.

Life goes on, however! How the heck are all of you?

Yes, there were tons of llamas, especially in the mountain villages. A few llamas actually carried our packs for a part of our major hiking trek. Nice guys.
