Any good OTC source for this? I know it is used to make explosives and might be hard to get in a pure form.

Go to the spa store, get it by the kilo. Also home improvement stores that carry spa chems have it. 99% NaBr, too! :) Or some Sears stores, in the water softener maintainence items.

i think you can put two and two together and figure out when people say it :-)

it also depends what your using it for explosives wise it's fine most mixes end being 10% filler shit anyway. drug wise the posible reactions of that unknown three percent are frightning. Now we know its a pyrotechnic chemical. How bout a pyrotechnic manufacture supply for a purer source..... hint hint

You can get a good quality for use on iron in water filters (usually called greensand).
If you want to get fussy, try recrystallizing it a couple of times.

It's not the greensand you use in the garden; it's just called that in CT.
I assumed it was because of the manganate to manganus (purple to green) reaction.~KCLO4, not angel.

Personally, I would avoid the use of Cr(VI) compounds whenever possible.

The methcathinone high just isn't worth the risk of cancer and birth defects from chromium poisoning....

KMnO4 is a powerful oxidizer, and will ignite when mixed with many organic compounds. Dropping a bit of glycerin into a small pile of it is a classic chem lab demonstration.
