Hey, I hear that Talkeetna is really great! It is about 150 miles north of anchorage, at the base of denali. I hear there are alot of interesting folks there. My husband and I bought a bus that we converted to an rv. We are headed for Alaska in the spring, we're really excited about it!

wow, i didn't know so many people knew about talkeetna. it's where i live. where i am right now :). the winters are really harsh but if you like winter you'll love it, it's beautiful. as long as you have somewhere warm to stay and something to do. and the summers here are AMAZING. it's half crazy tourists, half crazy hippies. there are a few crazy rednecks, but they'll stay out of your face and either accept you or ignore you. if you come up here, look for me! i'm the girl with the rainbow hair hanging out in the park :).

It's my understanding that Alaska is more than "cool" - it's f*cking ICE COLD.

hey there...I'm from fairbanks. Deffinatley hippy friendly! Homer is a tough town to get started in, although it is truely beautifull, the economy leaves much to be desired. I know alot of folks from PA here in town. Juneau is also a nice town. Abit pricey though. As far as housing go's.

Witnesses urged to view 24 hour astral projection “possession” torture sessions, conspiracy to murder plots and attempted suicide at English Nationals 1 bedroom council residence 7Oa Barnmead Road, Dagenham, Essex RM9 5DX. Find out the truth about the 911 atrocities in America and the Al Qaeda terrorist responsible described on the internet as the “evil demon”. See for yourself as the depraved child molesting psychopath Rodney Nixon terrorises his own family and threatens a nuclear catastrophe.

Skagway is a tourist town with a winter population of about 500 or so. Work can be found there in summer, but to keep employed in the winter is a challenge. Homer has fish processing industries but housing costs are outrageous, or at least last time I checked. I'm all about Fairbanks where there is cheap land not too far out of town and plenty of jobs. The Fairbanks area also has tons of rental cabins for less that $400 a month if you don't mind crapping in an outhouse and hauling your water when it's 40 below.

It's my understanding that Alaska is more than "cool" - it's f*cking ICE COLD. It's colder than ice here in the interior. That's OK the temperatures keep out the wimps and wannabe's.

I moved to Alaska, Seward that is, the day after I finished high school back in 1967. It was home from then on.
The old saying of It's not what you know, it's who you know. Is a very true statement in small town Alaska.
It does take awhile to get the lay of the land and be know by the "locals".
We have such a summer Transite population in the summer, nobody will
recognize you until http://www.hipgallery.com/photopost2/data/500/More_DS_039.jpgFebruary.
Gardening is also a challenge....Dennis
