If you thought Star Wars was a figment of George Lucas’s imagination - think again. During the Cold War when opposing Soviet and American governments were trying to out do one another with more and bigger nuclear weapons a new idea came along that made the arms race even more deadly. US President Ronald Reagan’s Missile Defence, nick named Star Wars, a military project that aimed to intercept and destroy missiles by shooting them down before they hit their target. You would think that this would make the world safer BUT it has had the effect of intensifying the arms race. If someone has a bomb shield - you need a bigger bomb to attack them with. Because of this missile defence systems were banned under international law. President Reagan never got his Star Wars system but it has been resurrected by George Bush Jr - as Son of Star Wars. Unsurprisingly North Korea and Iran have stepped up their attempts to build a nuclear weapons programme and China plan to build more nuclear weapons.

Come and hear about the international network opposed to this dangerous system - find out what you can do to oppose this lunacy and keep Star Wars in science fiction where it belongs.

Star Wars bases are planned in the UK, the US and Greenland.
