I think it is human arrogance to believe that we have a personal god that cares so much about the things we do on this earth that he/she/it/they would punish for all eternity for our actions - care so much that this god would take it's attention away from the vast infinite universe... Sure god may and probably does care for existence but, the universe is enormous... and No I am not pessimistic or depressed or think human existence is worthless... I just think that the human ego created the concept of a personal god in order to please itself into thinking that what we do here is Eternally important

What about an impersonal god?

An impersonal God is more likely, because there is no evidence of a supernatural being, an impersonal God would account for the absence. Still though its unlikely....

I feel the trouble here is in seeing the Universal Consciousness
as being transcendent instead of immanent. When embracing
immanence, or conscious creation, one quickly sees each living
being as a reflection of consciousness. Yes, this human-centered
constriction keeps us from seeing our fellow creatures as equal...
be this a star, sun, snail or frog.

I'd say that's simply human ignorance and fear rather than egoism.

Yes, I think fear and ignorance do contribute to, but I think many fail to see that our own arrogance contributes to... I think I'm referring more to the fact that people think if you're good and follow Jesus (or whoever) that you'll go to heaven... FOR ALL ETERNITY... and if you don't follow so and so you'll go to hell for ALL ETERNITY... to think that this god cares so much that perhaps you cussed once... that you'll spend all eternity being punished.... it's crazy... Eternity is forever and the universe is huge... Why do we think we are so important... That is what bothers me.

I fear that this is it - that it is dark on the other side and it lasts forever - and I think that that fear made god

Certainly it is, I mean no harm by it, certainly I am also guilty of having these same feelings. I mean no harm to anyone, it's just an observation about human nature and religion.

Two very seperate ideas passed off as one. Unfortunately the one of real substance lost quite early in the thread. The other sucks.
Generally, when someone says something like that and follows up with that which has followed I say turn up the good and turn down the suck.
Those are your words not mine, I obviously see them as one

When I wrote this idea I was (and still do) thinking about the whole idea of some people that build HUGE graves for themselves and try to almost make themselves eternal.... It really is just... I think arrogant..
........ I don't even want to have a grave marker, I mean, in like 50 years after I die, who will remember me anyway? Maybe some great-grandkids, but they won't have known me, so why waste the stone? Why waste the land? Land is for the living not the dead... We should honor the dead, but not immortalize them.

I felt like I was reading my mind, the human ego created the concept of god to feel important and to create the illusion that our existent is actually important but the reality is if I was to die tomorrow it is no big deal. Life and the universe go on, we are just one tiny piece of the puzzle. Like you said basically the human "ego" created a personal god for that eternal feeling of importance.

I have donated my body to the local medical school. That way it will serve some purpose - if nothing is needed for donation. I figure I can at least serve as a source of amusement for future generations of medical students. "Wow look at that poor old dude with the little bitty cock" grin. Have to do all you can with your life.
