View Full Version : Forum Backgrounds Wanted!
You're welcome to submit ideas for the forum backgrounds. Please keep in mind the following.
It should be a gif or jpg, not larger that 10K (in a pattern formation).
You can save one of our pages on your own computer and change the background link to one on your hard drive (you need a text or html editor).
This way you can test it before submitting it.
We won't take any backgrounds that don't line up properly.
It would be nice if the image has a theme related to the forum subject.
It shouldn't be too distracting, or conflicting with the existing color scheme.
Remember they need to look good on our pages, not just on your computer.
So post your samples in this thread with the forum you suggest it appear.
We're only looking to replace the standard background (purple swirls).
Thanks for your assistance! :)

Skip.
You don't want an animated background I guess. Just art?
Just static background patterns.

Skip, are you savvy enough to tile a photo? I was thinking of some of our dyes.
but I am technically declined, so to speak.
PM me if you want samples. I took all the pix.

i think tye dye could make an awesome background. unfortunately i'm not savvy enough to do any kind of html editing or any of that :( otherwise i'd help ya drumminmama
Drumminmama, yeah tie dye would be good. If it's a simple tie dye it might be possible to lower the resolution enough to put a big image of it up, so it wouldn't need to be tiled.
Yes I can tile stuff, but it needs to be abstract enough to enable tiling.
To do tiling you simply flip the image horizontally, save it, then put the two side by side, then flip both vertically, save it and then match up the edges into an image 4xs larger (no whut I mean?)

I have lots of tiles you could pick from.
Thanks Nathan! You got a few nice ones in there I think we can use. I've put one up on this forum. :)
Unfortunately most don't meet the 10K size restriction & are pretty garish (clashes with forum).

skip, see www.kimock.com and look at the intricate dyes behind Steve in the pix
or www.tedyepaul.com
I can provide pix for anyone who wishes to do the tech work.

You're welcome and I'm flattered to see you're using one of them. I know
you said you didn't want backgrounds for any other forums, but I wanted
to offer these for the munchies recipes forum, as the current background
is, well, not exactly the greatest piece of artwork on the web ;-) --

If you ever want to repaint any of the other forums, you're welcome to take
any from my page at http://www.angelfire.com/ct2/yankeeharp/bg.html. If you
want any photoshopped light, dark, overlayed with your colors etc. just let
me know and it's no problem.

Thanks Charlotte & Nathan again! Some nice ones there! You're welcome. Now, how about a nice favicon to go along with your spiffy new backgrounds? I get tired of looking at that plain piece of white paper in my favorites, and it makes it hard to find you in a row of tabs.
Here's a few I made -- if you want one, just change the file name to favicon.ico, put it in your root directory and put the code <link rel="SHORTCUT ICON"
href="http://../../favicon.ico"> on your pages.

how do you get backrounds for a forum..i mean how do you put them up??
I have been totally ignored in suggestions but could we have christmas themed backgrounds? This is because nobody would think it was christmas if we didn't do anything christmasy on here:)
Charlotte
12-02-2006, 09:35 PM
how do you get backrounds for a forum..i mean how do you put them up??It's in the html code ... you put the file you want to use for the background on the webspace you want to use, and then put <background="http://www.something.com/whereyourpictureis/backgroundgraphic.gif"> (or have your html editor put in its own code -- there's more than one way to write it.)
The picture is actually very small and is just repeated endlessly like a checkerboard. It is rather complex to make it look like it is one picture in the background and you don't see any seams in it.

I'll get my lazy azz to work on one for the Nevada forum.
It will represent not only Vegas, but Carson City, Reno/Tahoe.
All in a Tileable size suitable to the Hip Forums size requirements.

Sorry. I just read the requirements in your original post.
My isp should be changing after the 1st. And I'm not that good with photo editors.
We'll go with whatever you choose for the USA background.
