if you need to find an old post from the old boards...

they're all mostly still in the google cache

just do a search for hipforums + yourusername and you'll find lots and lots of your old posts. click on 'cached', and google will bring back your old post for you.

cool. for some reason it won't let me send a message that's only four characters long. that's pretty dumb. says it has to be at least 10 characters. What's up with that?

Yeah, it's truly amazing what they've cached on the net. Google won't keep it long if it doesn't find it again.

But I went to a place called The Wayback Machine (http://archive.org) which has cached images of entire websites for the past 15 years or so. So it was easy for me to just lookup the old forum homepage and click on the forums (in their cache) and get the descriptions & enter them back here! It was an enormous help to me today.

These kinds of things are proving their value over time.

Can you retrieve anything from there as well. I did get some of my stuff to be able to be seen but loads say not available so I imagine those are all the lost files.
