Hi Ranger here, I lived at the Nasty House with the Down Home Nasties and spent a lot of my time on the third floor of the Blue House working with Spacy Stacy and the gang. Since I came accross Shameless_heifer and Rita here we I have found Audreyannie another Nasty sister and Taurus Barbara from the Underhouse, and Audrey located Scorpio Kenny yesterday. I hope this network continues spreading and we can get the old family back in touch once more.

Jehene, Welcome!!
I have been in touch with Mouseman, Wild Bill, Spud, JD, Eden, Ranger, Rita, Diane and Shills (altho they are not married anyore they still keep in touch). Eden knows where Mama Kitten is but I have talked to her yet.. Ohh yeah, I email Taurus Barbara in Laguna. Shills said he had been in touch with Bernerd and Judy, they are in new york, Shills also said he saw Jimmy Painter and he was driving a truck up in NY, shills drives a truck too and lives in kentuckey with his wife. Count is remarried and has twins.
Cyril died from heart problems mouseman said.Leo Ron has passed also.
Diane came to visit me in January. We had a great time. I haven't heard anything about Whitty and Spacy Stacy has dissapared also. Aries Larry is living in Oregon with what's left of GE in a place called Woodpecker with Mouseman. Ranger and Rita are there too.
Wild Bill is a film director and has a gal friend that lives in Belgium, she's very pretty. I believe that there is a branch of GE in Belgium.
I have been trying for a couple of yrs to get GE to come in and post here, but so far only a few have posted. But due to the ammout of people here and a lot of BS that lives where people gather, I think they are still waiting to see. I don't know. Well I have a feeling why, but I don't want to discuss it in an open forum. PM me and I'll fill you in.
Brightest Blessings and Welcome Home.

Really, Chuck, how cool.. I do remember Chuck very well.. He helped take care of Marty (my sister) when crazy Jerry bashed her head in over in the White House with the butt of a shotgun. She still carries the scar.
Chuck and Annie Fanny along with NY Sherril and Frank took care of Jomie when I was in the hospital. It was a very down time for me. I really hit bottom when I got out. I was strung out on Diladid.
I remember leaving my ole man David in The Haight and hitch hicking to LA with sutures all down my tummy. I got a ride with a trucker that rode my all the way to Dallas.
I would love to see Chuck again. He was a Ricus Dude and a good brother. Ask Rita to give him a big squeeze from Cakes and Marty.
Brightest Blessings to you and lovely Rita.

Jehene,
I brought Rita up from LA on one of my visits home. We had been friends there for a while. Well acctually Rita brought me and Jomie my boy back up to The Haight when they would let me onna plane cuz I was barefoot, so she packed up herself ands two daughters and off we went to San Francisco with flowers in our hair.
Marty is my sister and came to The Haight to stay with me for a while. She had a Boy Ian, and a Girl Michell. Crazy Jerry almost killed her while I was up at Ash Valley visiting Diane and Shills. When I got back Marty was in the hospital and was half dead.
Jerry came in, somehow and was in the room sleeping when I found him. I demanded he leave. He was beat up and bruised, he said he could walk, I told him "he walked up the stairs and couls go back down them eith by himself or with pursuation. He refused.. I was LIVID... I went to the kitchen and grabed the biggest butcher knife I could find and had it at his neck when Kid came in and stopped me fom slicing his worthless throat. Some one grabbed me to keep me from finishing the job, and then the room was full of dudes from the GE, there was yelling and argueing, then Aries Larry came in with a Tire Tool and he was gonna kill Jerry right there. Some bros herded me and Rita into another room, and then they took Jerry and that was the last of him. He never came back. I never asked, soon after that Marty when to stay with our parents till she got back on her feet.
Count, Barbara, Chuck and Annie Fanny took care of Marty in the Basement of Cole Street House across from Underhouse. They saved her life. I think I may have told this story b4.. sorry..
Rita went to live at Wheelers and we lost touch till a couple of yrs ago when we found each other on the net.

It was NOT the same Jerry, Jehene. This jerry was way short and not a nice person.. I did not mean to confuse you dear.. and you Dont remember Me...lol.. ohh well.. I'm a little suprized most everyone in GE knew me.. Do you remember Nailcakes or Cakes.
I think Patty may be in Oregon, I will check with Spud, or Ranger should know he's there at Mousemans with Rita now. Maybe Reni is up there too. Mama Kitten is in LA somewhere, Eden told me she was in touch with mama Cat but that neither one of them had a PC so it would be hard to connect.
I think Ranger n Rita talk to Eden, I will ask them to have Kitten call me or something. I would love to talk to her, she had two girls Kisha and I for get the babys name. Of course they are no babies anymore.

Hello Mouseman, Leo Ron, Spacey, Kitten, Cyril, and all those whose names are swirling in my brain. You knew me as Bill, Zih-ave or ZEV Wexler. I lived at 1915 Cole Street at first in the communal room upstairs and then, with my Nancy, on the 2nd floor and then the basement (or vice versa) and had a Blue Econoline van and then, when I lived on Cole up the hill (near Maudes/The Study) a Camaro & MG. I played music, fixed cars, did electrical work, and moved furniture. Was with the family off and on from I don't know when to August 1974 ( some 3-5 years). Miss all. They were not all good times (though most were) but they are in my head as if they were yesterday. See!! Only my short term memories were affected. Love to hear from those who remember me. Some things have changed but much has not. Check out my webpage at wlzev.com and give a holler. OM

Hey ZEV,
Glad you could make it.
We lost Cyril to a heart attack several yrs ago. Stacy hasn't been heard from in over 25 yrs. Kitten is living in The City somewhere but doesn't have a PC.
If I'm not mistaken Leo Ron is no longer with us either.
Mouseman is living in Eugene as is Spud. Wild Bill is in LA or Belgium.
I'm Nailcakes and I'm living in texas onna farm with my wonderful hubby Lynn.
Ranger and Rita were here for a few weeks and left for parts unkown.
Shills is living in Tennesse with his wife.
Diane is living in LA she came to see me in January. We had a glorious visit, waiting for her to visit again.
Taurus Barbara is a famous writer and is living in Laguna. She is also re-coperating from a double liver transplant from Hep-C. (send prayers).
Brenerd and Judy are living in NY, Shills visited them and Count there and said he saw Jimmy Painter, who is a truckdriver now as is Brenerd and Shills.
I am slowly finding a lot of 'Family' here lately. It makes my heart glad to see everyone who is still with us.

The Cat Mother music party up by Russian River. Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys?
Strike a Match and Light AnotherBy Cat Mother and the All Night News BoysOn Albion Doo-Wah, 1970Written by Jay Ungar
In the first days of this country when the buffalo roamed the land
All the saddle tramps and cowboys used to roll their own by hand
Well they'd swing up to the saddle on their ass or on their horse
And recite a little ditty that went like this of course
When your feet are in the stirrups and your ass is on the ground
Cause the grass that he's been eating is the finest stuff around
Well let us not remember boys and let us not forget
Strike a match and light another marijuana cigarette
Ah you have heard of evil and you've heard of misery
And you heard of Richard Nixon but you haven't heard of me
You may think they go together and you may think that they do not
But there ain't much you'll be thinking once you've started smoking pot
When your feet are in the stirrups and your ass is on the ground
Cause the grass that he's been eating is the finest stuff around
Well let us not remember boys and let us not forget
Strike a match and light another marijuana cigarette
Well you can smoke it, you can eat it, you can mix it with your beer
You can hang it on the wall and you can hang it in your ear
And if you've got the notion, and if he's got the class
You can shove it in your feedbag and feed it to your ass
When your feet are in the stirrups and your ass is on the ground
Cause the grass that he's been eating is the finest stuff around
Well let us not remember boys and let us not forget
Strike a match and light another marijuana cigarette

Jehene,
I do not believe that the poster will ever leave Mouseman's posession. Ranger said that it couldn't be copied bc it would fall apart.. Perhaps someone could paint a portrat of it and make prints of and distribute to the Family.
The reunion was wonderful and brought back a lot of old memories to us all. Unfoutunatly Rita had a cat and I'm very allergic to cats and ended up in the ER, needless to say they had to cut their visit short and hopefull will find a place to land.
We most likely have met Jehene. Probably at one of the Family Meetings, or at Panhandle Park at the Day Care or the Food Conspiricy or maybe the Recycling Center on Haight St. by Love Burgers or at the Good Earth Head Shop by the Straight Theater.
I know all the people you mentioned so we had to have crossed paths at one time or the other.

Tuarus Barbara's name is Barbara Serrella.Run it through Google and she will pop up :) She is a VERY famous writer. She's has taken the bros and sis from Good Earth and turned them into the people in her story line.
My handle was Nailcakes at Good Earth. I lived at Underhouse from 71 till 74. I lived with Shills n Diane, Count n Barbara, Jimmy Painter and Ellen The Fellon, Whitney Kellogg n Leggs Kellogg (Gloria), Jimmy Jang Jang and his vegetarian Saint Barnard.
Sherril and Little Annie Fanny were living there too for a while. Lets see.. who else lived there at that time. I think that's all that was there on a regular basis. Bernerd and Judy lived upsatirs right above us and Mora and Kid lived upstairs on the otherside of the White House that overlooked The Panhandle. Breeze lived in the basement for a short while. He was living on Oak in the basement but moved to Whitehouse later around 71' I remember the year bc that's the year I turned 21. I had a crush on Breeze for the longest time and on my birthday I went to seek him out. I found him in the basement...WoooHoooo..
I remember (barely) my 21st.
I woke up as usuall and went to the front room. Jimmy Painter was sitting in front of the large windows that faced Cole St. He was busily working on some project or another as was his method each morning. Jimmy was an artist you see and a very talented one at that. He painted Big BOLD murals on the walls of the houses in GE, He and Whitney were also exelent Leather Crafters, doing clothing and pouches, all tooled magnifictly preemo work.
Well I was curious as to what Jimmy was working on but he seem to not want to be disturbed so I went to the kitchen where Ms Ellen The Fellon was also being busy and not giving me much energy. OK I thought, they must have hangovers and I went on to my biz'ness of makin' a bowl of Cheeri Os for Jomie ( my boy). After Jomie finished his breakfast we went to The Hill at Golden Gate Park and played for a couple of hours.
When we returned later that day, my house family, the above mentioned, had thrown me a surpriz party and presented me with an awesome leather vest that Jimmy had been working on eariler that morning. It was The Rescue Demon from Zap and how I got my name ( but that's a nother story in itself). Ellen had made me a Rum cake but Apple ( Jimmys dog) ate it so she gave me the rest of the Rum and well, (blush) the resr is history.
Brightest Blessings

Do any of you remember the band "Osceola"? It was sort of hooked, in a loose way, to the Family. Does anybody know what happened to Ron & Reggie and their daugher. Or Whitey. And I'm tryng to remeber the the name of the tall thin guy with a long dark beard who had a trike and was a great woodwroker/carpenter ( built a porch back in Canada with just a mallet and a chisel. He alsways talked about putting a little blood into your work. Very deep and mystical while he shaped the wood.

Merry Meet again Zev,
Osceola was kinda our sig band, them and Big Brother and The Holding Company, (heh heh) did ya ever trip on the THC initials.
Osceola play regularly at the bar there on Haight St between Cole and Clayton, I can't remember the name tho. I got into kind of a tussle there once.
I had been drinkin' and was drunk. I went down to the bar and Osceola was playing and the place was real crowded. I hadda pee real bad so I headed for the potty. The dance floor was packed and the only way through was to like dance your way in and out of people.
I accidently stubled a little and reached out and grabed a shoulder to steady me as I made my way across the dance floor. When I came back through I went to the bar to order a drink. BJ was bartending. I got my beer and was about to take a drink.
All of a sudden some chick swirlls me around on my barstool and I stand up. She started going off on me for messin' with her boyfriend. I had no earthly idea of what she was talking about and told her to fuck off, then her big ole boyfriend apperaed and started yellin' at me and made a gesture as if to strike me across the face.
I pulled out my switchblade that GaGa had left at my house when him and Count came to visit me, Shills and Diane while we were living in Phoenix for a while. Anyway, when I saw the Dude's arm go up, like I said I pulled my blade and sliced him across the forearm as his was about to knock the shit plum from me.
I kept the blade close to my ribs pointed menecingly towards him in case he decided to try and smack me again. The chick was hopping up and down waving her arms and causing a scean when I felt my blade being pulled out of my hand from behind.
As a reflex I tightened my hand around my knife and the blade sliced my hand opened. I hadda go to UC and get it stitched up.
There was a big family meeting about it which I didn't attend, and Steven Stacy came over afterwards and asked me what happened. I told him my version and he felt I was acting in self denfence and gave me back my switchblade.
It all worked out and later the dude who I cut and me became friends and we laughed as he showed me the scar.

The only fights I had out there were with KId. Th first time I put him away and the 2nd time (when I decided that one brother shouldn't beat on another) and He beat the crap out of me. I jammed one or 2 nights with Osceola and Played with David LaFlame( from It's a Beautiful Day), A soul/Rythm & blues group in Oakland, a cover band in SF and an Orginal basment band called Sparky. I did one benefit for the Playpus party on Cole Street. I thnk it was summer of 1971.

Nails
I seem to remember people called you Nails or Cakes and very rarely Nailcakes. But then, it has been a long time. I'm trying to find some pictures from then. I'll post them when I do. I posted what I look like now but I don''t think you'd recognize me from them.

Most of the people called me Cakes, sometimes they called me Nails..lol.. Your right I don't reconise your pictures from now, but prolly would remember an old snapshot.
Spud sent me a pic of the GE family reuion at Woodpecker up in Eugene 2006. Spud, Wild Bill and Mouseman haven't changed a bit, a few more lines and crinkles but I would have reconised them anywhere.
Kid has vanished as did Spacy Stacy. Wild Bill is living in Belgium, he said he likes it better then the US. He just got back for Bucurest(sp). What a wonderful adventure. I asked him to send me a postcard from there.
Eden and Mama Kitten are still in SF, neither one of them have pcs, but I have Edens Cell Phone #.
Tuarus Barbara is a famouse auther and writes under the name Barbara Sarenella ( i think that's how it's spelled. Barbara have a double liver transplant last yr and her first liver rejected and they did a second transplant. She has Hep-C The new liver started to delvope Hep-C also so they have put her on Inerfuron which is a type of Chemo.
I got an Email from her the other day, she is working on another adventure of Miranda Munch, she says she is feeling better. I was glad to hear it.
We lost Cyril a few years back to heart disease and Leo Ron. Everyone has been looking for Whitey, but we have yet to find his where abouts. Someone said he was in Pheonix, but when I was living there I never knew it.
I had Counts phone# but it was disconnected and I don't have a new one on him. I did hear he remarried and had twins. Not sure if that is a fact or not, as I haven't talk to him perssonally. It was Count who gave me the handle of Nailcakes when I had to have breast surgery back in 72' It had a scar that resembled a SMILE. That smillin' tit got me, Shills and Diane through a lot of doors that were sometimes hard to open...lol..
Ahhh.. the good ole daze..
I been married to my hubby Lynn for 23 yrs in September, been living on this farm for almost 17 years. We have a good life and are still in love and happy. I'm an Iridologest, Muscle Reflex Tester, Aromatherapest, Reflexologest and I make Natural Soaps, Lotions and Potions.
I'm opening an office next week in Winnsboro, A friend of mine has an Herb Shop, and is a Nutrapath. She letting me do my thing in one of her spare rooms. It's small but it will be perfect for what I do. I don't need much room to read eyes or muscle test.
I'm very excited. I had to close my own shop in 2000 when my Darlin' Daughter Amy died. I didn't nor could I be in public while the grief took it's toll on my emotional heart.I was recluse for almost Five Years. I din't want to live without Amy. She and her two daughters were my life.
It's been a hard adjustment to make, but I have come to trems with her passing now. I still have my Amy days but it seems to be or I seem to be getting use to the emptyness in my mother's heart of hearts.
If you recall, I had a boy named Jomie (JOM) He is a grown man now, 36, omg I'm getting old. He is living in North Dakota with his lady love Cindy. He's a storm chaser. And as always very handsome and strong as a bull. I'm proud of my boy. He's a good man with a heart as big as Texas.
Well, it's 4:20 and hubby is up. Time to Wakey Bakey
Brightest Blessings

Hi Jehene Yes Ozley was in GE going by the name of BEAR, not the biker Bear. I believe he is having problems with throat cancer.
I had just arrived at GE in 71. I was living at the ground level apt on Oak n Cole facing the Panhandle before it was part of GE. I paid rent to the Wounded Knee Indains that lived upstairs, next to the Black Panthers.
Shills and 3 finger Tim was walking up cole at the same time I was and Shills hit me up to go to a party in the basement at Oak St. where Breeze lived.
I knew most of the ones you have asked about but Diane, Barbara, Ellen and Rita I knew extreamly well.
Kitten also had a child with Steven Stacey I believe her name was Kisha. She was living on Haight St at the Hole in the Wall over the head shop, the same place where Capricorn Linda fell to her death on the back stairs after huffing nitris oxcide
Linda was a cool lady who made macramea lampshades what a shame she was lost in such a manner. The back stairs on all the houses were fucked. My 1 yr old baby neice nearly feel to her death out the back door of White House, Bernerd had to climb down to get her. My GOD we took our chances didn't we.

SH/Cakes;
LInda was a cool lady. She was, as I recall, also Cyril's lady before and/or during the time he was with Nancy. LInda taught me to macrame. Sometimes I would just get stoned, go down the basement of 1915 Oak and work at it all day and night; until I crashed.
On another note, you said you thought Leo Ron was gone. What happened. He was younger than me. What about his lady Reggie and their daughter. Ron used to be in charge of Meg" the family's big truck. We did a bunch of jobs together.
Jehenne, I'm still looking for the poster. If, and when, I find it I'll somehow get you a copy. Do you still have Taurus Barbara's e-mial. If so send it to me at wlzev@aol.com. I'd love to talk to her. Take care. Peace out.

i love to reread these stories of our commune over and over again...it was such an unusual lifestyle that we were living back then... the energy of our times will never be duplicated im sure.. what fantastic times to have lived in..i talk with many younger people and they seem to be jealous that they could not of been able to have experienced the lifestyle we had.. and i do understand that cause they were times that were truely changing the world..im so glad that i was a part of it all.. and we all did change our world didn't we?..shanti

Since no one seems to remember me, I thought I might fill in some details that would help place me.
At the time I stood around 6 foot tall with a Brown Jewfro and an off and on again reddish brown Beard. I wore glasses (usally wire rimmed). I first hitched out, from Vermont ( by way of Brooklyn) , during the fall/winter of 70-71 while writing my undergraduate thesis at Marlboro College. My brother Mark (sometimes calling himself John Mark or Magic Leo Lightning Sunflowers) a friend of Larry "the Hat" Loutsker (?) and Steve Sopher had been living/dealing with the family. I lived in the big group room at Oak Street. Pursuant to a very specific I Ching reading, I went back to VT to graduate and then, with my friend Michelle Cherrier, came back out in June '71. I was driving a 2 toned econoline weindow van. Towards he at the end of the summer, I had to go back to DC to appear in "Dionysus Wants You", an Off-Broadway Musical that opened in NYC. I then went back to Mass., New Hampshire & VT, to play music and fix cars. I broke up with Michelle and, after a bit took up with Nancy a psych tech. I taught at head Start program until it closed down and then in the winter of 1972 Nancy and I came out to SF, in a blue econoline van (Nancy had a black 69 Camaro and then a 65 MGB convertable) to live first with Good Earth at 1915 Oak Street (first in the room on the right in the back of the basement - The Indians form Alcatraz were in the room on the left- and then in the Third floor room right off the stairs.) I worked with Leo Ron and by myself moving stuff, fixing stuff and playing music. After my 2nd fight with Kid and a bit of disillusionment with what what was happening in the family ( which I won't go into except in private) Nancy and I moved out of Oak Street up to Cole between Judah and Parnassus. We stayed in SF until 1974 when Nancy was accepted to Howard U.'s School of Social work for an MSW ( Since I was only wait-listed at Hastings Law I didn't stick around) and we moved to DC. I tried to stay in touch but things got rough (law school etc.) and I lost touch until, when surfing the net I found the forum. That's the basic outline of my time with GE.
What ever happend to Count, Rock Bottom, Taurus John and Whitey? I heard a rumor that Good Earth sort of turned into White Panthers. The sense of family that came out of my time with Good Earth was a feeling like no other. In a crazy world it renewed my hope that people could work together for better things. peace out.

Was Jerry blond and sort of mellow and tripped out? I remember him making jewelry (I may even have a piece of his somewhere. I heard he died in the park but maybe it was in front of the museum. All very strange. He liked to go off by himself a lot.
I did email Barbara and she emailed me back. She also didn't remember me (my ego is taking some large hits - I though I made more of an impression in the family). She's not in great health. Problems trying to keep her new kidney. But she does have a new book coming out and is working on another. She was always a tough lady so if anybody can make it she can.
Peace out

Don't fret none zev. It was 30+ yrs ago, we love you anyway. Your a Brother and you done good. We are proud of ya just the same. That's a lot of road that's been traveled.
With all the happenings along the way it's a mircal we remember our own names, I think there are a few that don't.
The GE was never really White Panther, they were leaning that way, but there was some goings on that caused some static with the family and everyone started moving to the country. By 75 all the Old Family was mostly gone and a newer group moved in.
There are still a few family in SF, some in LA and even a couple in the Belgium branch of the family. There are several up in Eugene and the rest are scattered Hell West and Crooked.
Bright Blessing

Yeah I used to belong to the church of the good shit and fuck.I was a manber until 1985 when it all went to hell over crack and and jack. Some of us sold drugs, some of us ate drugs. All in all we were worthless fucks thinking we were the gods of love and peace. That brings me to today 2006.Some of us are dead, some of us aren't.In the end it doesn't matter 1 iota cause it's over. There was no dream only selfishness and deciet. All things must end so new things will come about.Live for today not yesterday.Love, peace and tomorrow.

It's too bad that your only memories of the GE are bad. While things weren't perfect most of us were trying to find better ways of living and loving. While you have too learn from the bad things that happen to you you can't wallow in them. At least one good thing happened to you -YOU SURVIVED. I know that despite some of the bad things you talked about (and they were there and did happen) the mix of people from every walk of life and background was in itself a good thing.
Yesteday 8/29 I celebrated my 60th Birthday by doing a standup comedy show and planning for some additinal footage for a Rap album (I'm the comic relief not the rapper but that might change). I don't want to sound to sappy or new age but you're alive so consider the alternative and MAKE THE BEST OF IT.

There was a loose-knit "family" in Toronto in 1970 in and around the Rochedale Free College...and a "Peace Train" caravan of hippies hitching out to the coast, following a real train of rockers... Joplin, et al. The name Nancy Christopholus sticks in my mind...and a kid just arrived from Vancouver, named "Arlo". Any memories here? Much appreciated!!

Jehene my Sister,
I am so happy you have found your 'little piece of heaven'. It always inspires one to do their best in being part of the nature of things when you can chairish and love what you hold.
It's not like renting at all, you have no ties or roots that bonds you with what is yours for a time. The sucurity of knowing that you have a space that no one can take from you. Something of worth to pass down to generations.
The seeds you plant will be of your own choosing, as you plant you become one with the land and the creatures that depend on the land for survival as do you.
They become like your children. You watch them as they grow, you watch their offspring. It's like a connection with creation. It makes you feel glad inside just to be a part of something so exquizit. Even if it is in the City, you can still create a wonderland of beauty and inspiration.
I know how I felt when we bought our little peice of heaven. It was truely excellerating, It was a very liberating experience. I have become such a part of this land, the trees and the landscape, the ponds when the critters gather for their morning drink and bath.
The Donkey calls out his morning greeting as the Rooster responds with his mighty Cock-a-Doodle-Do, which gives leave to the goats chimming in with their bleating pleas for sweet grain.
The Cows in the meadow moo their low steady moan, laizily grazing on the Alfalfa that grows tall in the pasture, not letting much bother them as they lumberly munch their way across the meadow.
It's all so inspiring. It get the creative juices flowing, it's like channels being open for the very first time and all the golry shinning through lighting a fire within.
Well that's the way I feel about it anyway.
Brightest Blessings

Zev,
GoodStock2007 will be in WV at earthmorther's place. She and her man will be opening their land for the Festival. She's a great Lady with a deep soul. They are very cool people.
Depending on the outcome of GoodStock 2007, there has been disscussion of taking GoodStock to other parts of the country. We maybe coming your way. We just need a few hundred achers, the support of the comunity, county officals and the hard working people to workout details ( did I say hard ) and 'Voila' we have a concert.
It very difficult to get past the money issue. So far it has been all volentier work, and many blank walls. It has been an uphill climb, with Larry doing all the planing and contacting everyone that is to be involved with little help and almost zero income. Mostly working off a recharbale phone card.
There has been a great responce, with bands calling/emailling their intrest in GoodStock. Everyone is working to manifest GoodStock into the physical and things are starting to *Pop*. Everything is more or less on schedual and more interesting events are taking place. We have a 'Lightman' Tripn Da Light who has just introduced himsef here in the Garden and his afiliation with GoodStock.
With all that being said. I do hope to see Everyone of you there next June and we can all meet and have a great Festival.
If anyone would care to donate green energy, their time or expetees they would be most generously welcomed and responded to in kind.
To make a donation you can contact Larry Mclurg at www.mindgarage.com (http://www.mindgarage.com/). There is a page on GoodStock if you scroll down. We can use all the help we can get. It's worth while and brings a great deal of happiness to your soul.
As the Hippie Generation fades into the millinium there is new hope for our kind. We feel we are here to leave a message of peace love and unity to show the path which will lead others to the same path of inlightement to peace and freedom for all.
We ( the collective we) are calling for a reunion of the Spirit that lead us through the 60's into the present day. We hope in our efforts to bring a little of what we tried to capture from those times of gathering as a tribe of human beings, bringing forth the unity and strenght that helped us to gather for almost a half century.
It was The Music that lead us threw the hard times when we were pioners in a new land. We had in common our outrage for the injuste humanity was suffering in that era.
We had a dream and that dream is Alive in GoodStock2007.
Please, if you can help us bring back the Unity that we lack so in the here and now. Dig down in your hearts and open yourselves up to a chance to be part of something that may change attitude and minds and perhaps the world. Be part of the change make a contribution of positive energy. You will be glad that you did.
Bright Blessings Zev.

Bright Blessings Jehene,
All the Glory in the world is in the earth, what we can manifest out of her at our own chosing and how we repay her with love and devotion. It is like a relationship between souls. The Spirit of the Universe connecting with the whole Spirit of ones self. A feeling of purpose and a feeling that gives you pleasure in a creative way.
It's like being an artist with the land as your canvas.. you splash color here and there with bright colorful arrays of flowers, you plant trees and shrubs here and there for demention.
You stand like a mother hen watching for her eggs to hatch as the seedlings appear. You feed, water and nurture each little seedling as it pops out from benieth the soil reaching for the morning sun, still damp from the dew that covers the earth.
It brings a moment of peace and unity with all things that live and share this earth. When the struggles in life get you down, you can regain the beauty by just looking at the love that is returned to you in the harvest.
The flowers in full bloom, bringing light and love into your heart again. The shear delight of watching the Butterfly flutter from flower to flower to taste each and every one of their sweet necter. With the Humming Birds darting in and out to get their share of the precious honey that they flowers give so that the creatures may survive.
It's all connected and so intricit that it leaves you awe stricken at it's beauty and inner relationship of each living thing.
Blessed Be My Sister (((huggss)))

Hello all
Shameless heifer do I know you?? and first off HELLO to all who I do know who I have seen post here Spud, Mouse, JD (still playing Guitar) or just saving lives all the others who I have shared times with in life!
I am so Glad I found the site I was on another old STP site looking for some folks.
Found Butlers bro looking for him and I have no infor on Butler or Nancy since two years after they lived in my Bus way back.
Oh yeah this is Chris WAH and I Used to live back in the Cave in the back of Peadeful Valley then in the Cabin with GregWAH that Sargent Pepper lived in in the South side of the Valley Below Buccanear Ridge ( I still cannot spell). Then back to D.C. Up to Wisc. back to Colorado, back to SF back to DC back to Orygun Over to Hawaii where we have a place On Molokai since 1977 back to Orygun backto SF back to DC back to Orygun yada yada now in LOW CAL!!
I know that some times were tough for some of us and I also think that some got out of touch because of the trials and tribs of Life in General.
I have reconnected with Happy and Mary in Wisconsin now and Terry Lane has talked to me in the past couple of years.
If interested I am still with Sheila 32 years now my boys are MEN Caleb born on my bus in Milo orygun is doing well my oldest Ryland Played Football in the CFL for 6 years and was with the NFL Vikings sent to NFL Europe for one Spring season and my youngest Tiller (yes born in Tiller for those who remember....THEN) is playing guitar and singing.
Hope all who read this are O.K. with all things and doing well.
I am fighting Lymphmonia right now but I will beat this like I beat all the battles that have been in.
Seems that the Orygun folks who were once SF/Berzerk folks are well represented here! NICE
FYI My good friend Chaz actually goes up to the old Oakland HF House (wow more memories!!!) Where Buzzy and Stacy were at once or twice a year. He is onePart of the Lighting Rig folks for Reggie On the river every year.
Well that is good enough to post now!

When did you leave the Underhouse??
My first visit to the Underhouse was late summer of 69 only spent about three or 4 days there on a "VISIT" I was one of the young ones came out with some folks after the Big party in NY called Woodstock . I Left went up to Orygun then back to Boulder then back to DC, stayed in touch with the "flow" and dropped in and out over the next 5-6 years. Would visit and spend a night or two over that time but later (after 71) uasually in Upper Cole and just visit down the street.
My sister had her Son at the Underhouse but that was in 74
Were you around for the great Christmas Tree Sale!! When all the trees came Down from AV??
FYI for the thing in WV next year I may be able to help if I make it through the situation I am in right now. I had a Lighting and Stageing production Company for a lot of years and I know most all of the Equiptment vendors around the Country. BML in Baltimore Mainlight in Wilmington all the DC sound and lighting folks etc.
Also connected with some "folks" who ended up in WV.

Jehene I stopped by in 71 on a run from DC to Boulder and back to SF trying to catch up to GregWAH. I was traveling a lot then as that was my nature and my calling at that time! If I was not memorable my pants were as they were almost totally leather patches (it was my only pair as I traveling light and fast.)
I THINK maybe Leo Ron was there and Picese Bob and Mary Maybe also Black Darrell and Nancy? Maybe that was a little later 73? The more I think and talk the more the time frame comes togather.
I think that maybe Nabor was around then too hmmm Maybe he was up on Upper Cole???
Did anyone remember the AVENUES house?? Over on Third Ave North side of GG A bit of a different flow but everybody was connected.

Jehene,
I think Rini is over at the diggers site, if you see her there you may ask her about a lot of the others you seek. Hugs to you sista and Bright Blessings
Chris,
I was at Underhouse from 71-75, I was there for the Christmas Tree thing that was on the corner in the parking lot I think next to the GE head shop on Haight St. I remember your pants Chris..lol.. funny what triggers the mind.
Yes it was always called Underhouse, Oak St house was facing Oak St. underhouse faced Cole St, right across from the White house where Aries Larry, Kitten and Darryl lived.
I was the only woman that lived at underhouse full time, girls came n went, underhouse was pretty rough and ya hadda be able to hang with the big dogs. Gloria was Whitney's GF from Canada and would visit often but didn't live there. Tuarus Barbara lived there for a little while with Count, Then Diane came in 72 and she lived there a yr or two with Shills. I lived there for about four yrs with my boy Jomie. I was the little blond with the big tits. They called me nailcakes.. Cakes for short.
Nabor was there and Butler, that was 73 or 74, hard to be accurate on dates.

LOL SH We have for sure meet in passing! I did stop by a lot during 71-73! Only a few times a year in 74-75 After that things changed a lot!
Was also over on Dwight in Berzerkly in the old Garage across from the Hospital!
I remember you now! NAILCAKES!, I am sure that we actually did some hanging I see it all now and yes the UNDERHOUSE was a tad tough!
So was upper Cole when things got a bit crazed!!
Do you remember Candy having her Baby Cody? Hit and Run Jam Band?
Actually the Oak Street haouse seemed calm in Compairsion sometimes lol!!
You were there for the renters strike then right??
Street Watch Straight Theatre etc. OMG my mind is seeing COLORS and many folks right now!!!
Do you remember letting me and with my (now wife for over 31 years Sheila) stay downstairs one night after we were stopped and almost taken in because they thought Sheila was Patty Hearst?? That was a huge deal that day as we were surrounded by what seemed to be a million of the Citys finest with cars comming at us in every direction and they tried to Grab Sheila I started to grab the guys trying to grab Sheila and of course a bit of a ruckus ensued.
After all settled down and we were on the ground with everyone yelling they discovered that Sheila was indeed NOT Patty H and they let us go and they all dissapeared quicker than they appeared?
We spent the night at Under yacking about all kinds of trips???
I also remember Chuck MF being at Upper Cole then I think?
You saw all the Change first hand I bet!! I was a TRAVELER so each visit back by me I always seemed to arrive when SOMETHING was always be in "FLUX" From Peace and Love, to TOUGH and ROUGH to WATCH YOUR BACK!the changes seemed to
Remember the Chinaman who took food stamps for EVERYTHING??

Chris,
I got to The Haight in 66' I left it for good in 77'. The Haight went through some heavy changes during that time, world changing and mind altering changes. It was good bad and ugly, but the Spirit remained instilled in our souls. The Spirit of Peace and Brotherhood.
I remember the Chinaman. His eyes were split in two. One scanned the rows and one stayed on the cash regiester. He caught me stealing butter one time and made me put it back. I was embarrassed. I never stole from him again after he showed me the meat cleaver he had under the counter. YIKES!! He was always cussin' in chinese. I don't think he liked hippies much but he did like them food stamps.
Chuck MF did indeed live on upper Cole with Annie Fanny. Chuck is in Oregon someplace by Eugene I think. Mouseman is in Eugene and has a GE reunion every yr at Woodpecker. Spud is on the City Council up there in Oregon too. Wild Bill is in Europe, Russia I think. Kid dissapered as did Spacy Stacy, several have journeyed to the beyond.
Well real time is happening and I gotta go for now.
Bright Blessings
sh
In the middle 60's to about 70' things were love, peace and unity, then it all turned to money hungry profiteers coming in with hard drugs and prostitution. Speed and Heroin took the beauty and love from The Haight. It became ungly and tainted and slimy and unclean. Every one went their own ways, some went crazy some went to the country.

For some reason I THINK the very first time I went to the Oak St. House summer 69 not sure if it was called UNDERHOUSE yet or just the Oak Street House?? I do recall when back later after that it was was always called UNDERHOUSE.
BUT that was a long time ago and many mind lives ago to!
FYI There was a Wedding up in AV this last Summer at Spuds OLD place/he sold to J and F as I recall then changed again maybe back to Spud and maybe sold again just receintly (Just at bottom of Hill down Valley from Old Louie) last summer. (I still can't spell)
One of the Children got married! Life truly goes on!

CWPeople seem to be confusing Underhouse with the Oak Street House. Oak Street House was 1915 Oak Street and was connected by backyards to the Cole Street House. Underhouse was On the Corner of Oak Street and the downtown side of Cole Street. When I lived with the family, Ranger, Eden and their people lived at Underhouse. I remember most people at the time called it the White House. The years make some memories vague. But not the good feelings. On balance, I, for one, am glad I had the experience.
Peace out.

wizev Hi and thanks as I do remember it as the WHITE HOUSE also. That was why I was confused when I thought I read Oak St house as underhouse somewhere? The clarity of the OAK St House and Lower Cole is bright as day lol! The shared yard and all.
Didn't underhouse get its handel because it was the UNDER flat in the WHITE house??. More mind jogging and I was NOT one of the Good Earth Family my roots were STP but so many of our flows crossed and some blended togather!
Also I think some folks may confuse lower Cole with Upper Cole also as I recall lower Cole being refered to as upper and Lower in that same house BUT the Upper Cole House I refer to is the one on UPPER Cole ST across from Dunkleys Two seperate housed completly.
Does that ring correct with you also?
I never "LIVED" at any of the three just would crash when on a run or a visit.
Time and the mind!! lol One thing is for sure for me the more posts I read the more memories are brought back to life!
What an amazing time(actually a MINI ERA) back then.
From the GOOD BAD and UGLY I do not think those days can NEVER be repeated again BUT I truly think that some of the ideas and IDEALS that were hatched back then can and should be revived by those who can and want to take on the mission to do it!.
Just this old travelers opinion of course!
I to am glad I had the experiance of THEN!

OK let's go over it again,lol.. Underhouse had three entries to it. Two on Cole facing the house where Kitten lived. (Whitehouse) . Underhouse was the first doorway of the last building on the block before you crossed over to PanhandlePark..
The doorway leading to underhouse,Had two entries, the first door was nailed so shut a battering ram couldnt break it down. from the inside when you walked in the wall was tore down between the two entry ways. One leading upstairs over underhouse. Upstairs was refered to as Upperhouse. That's where Bernerd and Judy lived.
Now in the same building the next doorway lead to upper whitehouse (not to be confused with Whitehouse across the St) There were two doorways there too. The second of which was the one to upperwhitehouse. That's where Kid and Mora lived. There was an excape route connecting Upperhouse with upper whitehouse.
The Attic where the other door lead is where the Black Panthers lived and I never saw anyone even go in there or come out.
Downstairs was the name of the flat in the building that was facing the panhandle, it was street level. I lived there before it and me became part of GE. Shills, Jimmy Painter and Count kidnapped me and moved me and Jomie into Underhouse in 71.
The dungon was the basement and was all cement. Breeze(RIP) lived there for a time, after he moved from the basement flat in the house on the opposit corner of cole n oak. Whew!!
There was an underground tunnel that ran across the st over to White House and then many more excape routes once in the back yard, which could take you to two direction. One was up and over fences through White house then hop over to Page St House.
The other way was out the back yard of Underhouse over the fences and through one house and over to the other page st house, the one the pigs blew up in 73' or 74' over by Clayton St. I hadda use the excape route from Blue House on Oak where Stacy lived when the law dawgs came to capture the nortorious Nailcakes when me and another sister whet n broke Jomie out of Child Haven after the big bust came down and they took EVERY ONE to City Prison and took my boy to CH.
They would not release him to me when I got out of jail for doing nothing at all. They said that I had no legal residence bc Underhouse was a condemed building.
We went and got Jomie, pistols drawn and then a hoodsliding excape back to the Haight, the laws sniffin' out our trail. We lost them and headed over to Oak St. House. That's where they caught up with me n Jomie.
They were pounding on the door demanding I gaive myself up and surrender Jomie to them. LIKE HELL!!! Over my dead and battered body!!. Aries Larry came down the stairs and grabed me n Jomie up and said, 'This Way Cakes' and out the back window we went. We flew over fences and into a window that led to Toothless Jimmys and Dorys house further up Cole St.
Me n Jomie laid low there for a few hours and then we were snuck into Meg' and carted off to the airport and put on a plane to So Cali. We high tailed it to Arizona after that. I was PG when I left and I aint namin' no names. My daughter was born in AZ and was very sick, I flew us up to SF to take her to UC, the best hospital I could think of, but I got sick myself and ended up in SFG to have surgery and they put Amy in there too at my request.
Sherril and Anny Fanny took Jomie in till I was released. Then another truma drama occured. The CPS came into the picture bc my daughter Amy was sick and was undernurished, so the docs decided I was not feeding her.
They called CPS and CPS connected me and Jomie. I was laying strapped to a bed loaded up with morphine and all the 'Suits' came barging in. They started questioning me about where Jomie was. I refused to tell them. I really didn't know what was going on. They said I was not feeding Amy and that I was unfit to raise her, something about getting a court order.
When they left I called my Mama in Texas to come get the babies. I told her something was wrong and she needed to come right away. Mama was on her way 30 mins later. Her my sister and my bro in law all drove up.
They got to the hospital and they got Amy. They werent gonna let them have her, but Amy clasped on to her Mamo and would not let go. They look in my mama's eye told them they had best let her go with them cuz there was gonna be a fight.. I told Marty my sister where Jomie was at Sherrills ( marty had lived at GE for a little while and knew the setup).
Marty took my mama to The Haight to Chuck MF and Anny Fannys and got Jomie and they all went back to texas and I stayed to have surgery. I later hiched a ride to Dallas with a trucker when I was able to travel and reunited with my family. I never went back to The Haight after that. Amy was later diagnosed with having Cystic Fibroses which is a dijestive/lung disease and Amy was not absorbing what she ate, it was never bc I didn't feed her. ASSHOLES!!! Jomie became an A student with honors in Art and Math. He has a brilliant mind and is doing well in ND. We lost Amy in 2000, but the two daughters she left us with is like her all over again, they both look just like her.
Well that's all I got for now. Some past events stir up both good and terrible memories. Our lessons to learn. Some are most difficult to endure.
Peace

You were there for the firebombing and and all the situations that are the scarry movie stuff!
SO SO glad to hear that the kids grew up to not only be healthy but also have you back all this time!!!
I never thought that there would ever be mention of the "under of the under" at all!
If it ain't clear now what is what then and what house was what house then it will never be!!
You take care! Peace and living without looking out is so well deserved for you!!
There are some things that I cannot mention as I am not as free to feel able to mention them as you!
Again thanks so much for the info and I hope that the rest of life will be one where you and your family can be happy strong and ALWAYS togather!!

Folks;
I think that where it gets confusing is that every body was at Good Earth at both different and the same times and for varying lengths of time. People lived at different places at different times. In addition many people lived in one place but except for sleeping hung out somewhere else. What you S-H called the Blue House I always thought of as the Oak Street House (1915). I remember Kitten, Darryl and their daughter (was her name Ronnie) - (and then the new baby) living at 1915. Myself and Nancy, Leo Ron, Reggie and Dawn, Larry Lautzker, Jerry (until his untimely?? death) also lived there. I don't remember any of the tunnels (I guess I'm lucky I never had to use them). The only escape route I knew of was the connected yards bwteen the Cole Street building and 1915 Oak. Even today I forget where our car repair garage was and where the workshop (that Cyril hung out and worked in) was. Of course, a whole lot of my memory ( maybe other people's as well) was affected by the various substances that I ingested. Also after Nancy and I moved up to an apartment on Cole between Judah and Parnassus things also changed. I wish that somebody who could draw (or illustrate) would make a diagram/map etc. of all of our houses and locations and we could label them and their occupants with a chronology who lived and worked where and when.
Since finding this forum, my mind has been dredging up names, places and events and trying to fit them together. Oh for the days when we were young and immortal (and perhaps a little stupid). No regrets; but one always wonders about the path not taken.
Peace out.

Chris,
I doubt if SF wants me after all these yrs, statutes and all. My name has changed so many times it would be difficult to connect me with any hanias crime. I did no crime. I just took my boy back. They had no right to hold him from me, there had been no court order. He did not want to be there and I did not want him there.
What made me freek out so bad is that they call me unfit, and they had Jomie in a Pinafore which is a little girls dress. Jomie had long blond hair he was about three or fourish. He sure didn't look like a girl and if they watched him pee or gave him a bath I'm sure they saw that he was a boy. They even had his hair in pigtails.
I was arrested for nothing, me and Jomie were asleep when they busted in on us at the upper whitehouse. They ripped Jomie from my arms and clubed me and cuffed my ankles and wrists behind my back I was fighting like a wildcat. I didn't know who they were or what they were doing. I was asleep, it was dark. I wanted my boy.
They kept me in City Prison 5 days then just cut me loose without another word. They wouldn't tell me where they took Jomie, I was frantic. Finally one of the inmates told me to look in Child Haven cuz that is where they took kids. That's where I found him dressed like a girl, dumbasses..

Yeah I TOTALLY Understand as the LD's did the most outrageous things back then. I know shit was crazy as the early seventies changes and lots of things changed with "FAMLIES". BUT Like what they did to you was just totally WRONG. Then the firebombing and the constant harrassment a lot of wasted energy and creation of bad bad energy! .
They went after my sister and Buddy and others too!
Shit they even stooped to arresting me for prostitution and lude acts because i had a hole in my pants! Just to see if they could do more. Then put out warrents for not showing up in Court when I ain't even in town!.. THEN you are a CRIMINAL because of that BS!!!
You did good MOMMA!!
I understand your point too about no one having any interest in SF about back then. I am just still way to leary of this internet world! lol
It is so weird about the FREAKS who worked at the CPS back then too. AND it was not just in SF! Me and Sheila had to leave the Milo Farm and go into the DEEP woods in ORYGUN when we delivered Caleb on our bus!
We took him into Canyonville just to have him checked about three days after we delivered him. The nurse jumped in Sheila and my face told us we did not know what we were doing delivering our son and doing it in our bus. AND that how dare we live in a BUS with two children!
Shit we were healthier and stronger than they were!
Sheila got rowdy with her and the next thing we know they sent a welfare CPS freak to look for us with "LAW DOG" (I LOVE your defination and revival of the phrase) escort. We were on the other side of the South Umpqua and we got word over a CB radio from Duna Farm that they had stopped there to try to find us because they were "concerned" and felt that they needed to intervene and wanted to get Ryland and Caleb(the new one) "JUST TO MAKE SURE" there was no Child endangerment! SHIT they wanted to take our kids because they did not another generation of US!!
So we left the farm and went up to the Forest camp(about 10 miles past AV) just so there would be no hassles for the Food Farm folks with CPS and Cops. NO WAY WOULD THEY GET OUR KIDS!
Not near what you had to endure as yours son was STOLEN and you were in their hands. But it was just so Fu#$%^ UP the way they would take our kids back then AND do all the shit they could to get us off the freeside!
WOW actually felling pissed off again after all these years!
DEEP BREATHS!!!
ok better now

Was little Terry the one involved in the Page St incident. Mama Kitty was living there when it came down. I was living on upper Cole when it happened. Kitten came over and told me in tears, her and the kids managed to excape out the back before the bomb went off and burnt down the place. She lost everything in that terrible fire the pigs started. One of thoes flash bombs. We went over to watch what was happening and the pigs wouldn't let the fire dept put it out. They told them to wait a while, till they were sure everything was beyond saving. I heard them say, one way to get rid of the vermin.

Zev,
The Page St bombing happened in 74' it was either October, or November. I can just about pinpoint the date bc that's when I became pregnant with my daughter. I went to Phoenix right after that and came back after Amy was born.
It was about one of the sisters, she was nine months PG and the pigs came and said she stole a bicycle and carried it up two flights of stairs.(right) They damanded she be turned over and it just wasn't happening, so they tossed a incininary(sp) bomb and burnt the place down.
As far as how many house were Good Earth, when I was living there there were about nine houses in The Haight alone. I'm not sure how many there were in the whole of SF, but I can count eight or nine in The Haight.
Oak St House, White House, Underhouse, Toothless Jimmys on lower Cole,. The Page St House near Clayton and the Page St house by Schrader, The Hole in the Wall on Haight St and Upper Cole, so maybe nine.
If there were more I didn't hang out in them. There may have beem more but these are the ones I frequented in the Haight.

He told the law dogs that I was his sister sos they would let me visit and write him when he was @ San Quiten. Me Diane and Ellen went to see him while he was there, we took him some party ballons'. TL is living in SF again and has been for a long while now.
Do you remember Sharon (The Prisoners union stuff) I am sure you do cause If I know about it from all my stop and go visiting then you do as you lived it day in and day out. I am fairly sure she and her man ended up up in Northern Cal around leggit. She and I go back to those young High School days when I was living house to house as I was on my own at 16. I did try going back to the parents for a bit but it did not work! I guess that is why my kids have never truly left us! lol Gave them a different perspective of LIFE and they seemed to have decided to stay close to us. OPPS right turn there sorry!! Just blessed that I have three boys who love mom and Dad cause we kept them close and gave them love I guess !
Back on track......
Last time I saw Whitey was in Orygun a long time ago (early eightys maybe) at a bar outside of Canyonville
I spoke with Hap and Marry the other day. Happy ended up out at there I think around 73/74 ish??
It might be difficult memories but do you remember Candy (red hair woman) not to be confused with Candyman. Life has not been to good for her as she is in P-town barely living.
How about Tubbie? He was from SO Cal but in SQ and when he got out got help from the flow. Finally getting up to the Country, where he meet a woman had kids and has also Passed on.

Herman Da Plumber as we all called him, yep, he was in Canyonville, I don't know if he is.. yes he is, Rita said she saw him or someone mentioned him while they were up there in may. There is a lot of peoples on the river in northern Cali clear up to Oregon.
I was thinking what a great movie it would be if we made a movie about The Good Earth Commune. We were, after all the core of The Haight for many many years, we contributed a lot to the neighborhood and helping keep the Carousel, Avalon and Filmore rockin n a rollin'. I believe GE did a lot of great things for the movement and would be interesting to a lot of people.
Ya know Wild Bill is a director/film-maker dontcha. They did a write up with his name in it in the Hollywood Reporter, he's dancin' in his cowboy boots :p How very cool for him. His call name is Will Huston, good on em.

Yeah I heard that WB had done some directing...Maybe read it in the Entertainment rags.
My old Company that I have sold to my brother now, is located in LA very near to HollyWEIRD. I did lot of Automated lighting and we also did some major feature films AI, Spiderman, Minority Report etc. Also did/do a lot of Touring. Staging, audio, Lighting, and even Video now. If someone gets it rolling I can get my old Company to contribute. Look it up at CWP.net I also know Candace B the Lighting Designer/Director for the Dead (well was lol) and Phil Lesh and that flow. If a great screenplay/script was developed.....well it would take a lot of energy and Financial backing just the same. A film might be interesting. To be effective, it would have to show all of the contradictions. To be honest, it would have to show lots of stuff that might best not be repreatd. e.g. Where the money came from that kept the family going; The sometmes very heavy thread/threat of violence that often hovered above our activities; and the, at times, very selfish motivations pervading the family mores. It would be ihteresting to compare our activities, dreams and aspirations at that time and then show us as we are today. Contact Wild Bill and see what he thinks. I'll write the score.
peaceout.

After all these years and all that we ingested, it's a wonder we can remember our names. I think Eden gave them to me as I was going back East, in early 1971, to finish school. Though it could have been"72 or '73 when I was there with my Nancy. They were unfired. She might have made other ones after that using other models. I've used them off and on over all these years. They've always given a nice rush. The nicest thing is that every time use them (And I have to admit I only use the female one) I think of Eden, you and and the rest of the family. Hope you had a fine day and someone gave you the bird (the official Thanksgiving salute). Peace out.

wow, I'm amazed to have stumbled into this forum. I guess I'm a relative youngster....arrived in SF in '74, lived at Page/Cole with folks like Mouseman and Manny the Frisch (lives in Seattle now I think) and Annie Riley (now Deirdre Donovan, still in SF). Also lived at the white house on Cole for a bit, and the Nasties house at 1210 Fell/Divis with Ranger (Howdee!!), Eden, Scorpio Kenny, and an ever-changing host of people....I was the day shift in the purple room there. I had a tattoo of a turtle on one hand and was a dead ringer for Phineas of the Freak Brothers.
Strange, the stuff you remember....I keep thinking back to one particular Christmas at the Fell St house....we had just hauled in this humongous tree and decorated it, and Ranger, who rarely indulged in the green, wandered into the room stoned and paid a hilarious tribute to the tree, calling it the "big green mother bud" or something like that.
Remembering so many names, and faces with names that are stored in brain cells that have promised to call back later....I did a lot of growing up in those days....but thankfully not too much.
I had a pair of the Carnal Carburetors, Kenny and Molly, for many years, but sadly they met with an untimely stone stairway. Especially sad, as I had a thing for Molly for a long time. So much unrequieted lust back in those days....
Ranger, please give my love to Eden when you speak to her....every time I'm back in SF I think about her, but have lost touch.

Sitting around this holiday morn, random thoughts come to mind. I don't know if it's common knowledge or not but the Oak Street House was the home of Dianne DePrima and the Poet's Press. At one time, it housed JACK KEROUAC, Alan Ginsberg and many of the Beats.
I'm trying to remember the name of the guy who owned it in the 70's . I know Leo Ron and I used Meg to do a moving job for him.
Does anyone know what happened to the family's lawyer Tony Serra?
Remembering:
When Mouse man went up on the pole to reconnect our power after PG& E shut it off (That Navy training came in handy;didn't it?).
The time we poured concrete into the water meter hole so they couldn't shut that off.
Selling Xmas trees in the Lucky parking lot.
"Touch" football with the cops.
Driving over a cliff with Black Daryl and ending up at John Phillips house after playing a gig near Mt Tam.
Sit down dinners with the family after a hard days work.
Stringing popcorn for the tree in the front room at Oak Street.
The powerful OM at the start of a famly meeting.
And throughout it all, the hope that we were making something better and more loving then the straight world that surrounded us.
Peace out.

I know a lot of the houses were unsettled estates, uninhabited for for many years. I believe Underhouse was such a place. When the BPs lived uptop they would come and ask for rent when I was living in the basement flat before I joined GE. When the raid of 71 went down the laws took out the BPs, no one ever came down and ask for rent again. Shortly after that I moved into underhouse. The eletricity, gas and water was illegal and I was told by the CPS that it was a condemed building.
It's all high dollar now, they rentovated the whole of Haigh Dist. Only a few brothers and sisters remain. They have gatherings now n then, but mostly media hyped and plastic. Run out and buy the latest hippie fashion and be a hippie for a day, type stuff.
Where has the time gone, it has slipped afar. How young and beautiful we were in our glory. Each of us like a shinning star, full of hopes and dreams and fanciful sceams, becoming who we are.
What roads of wonder we have traveled, looking for the way, to bring everyone together just so we could say. Stand up and be counted, fight on another day. Your the only one that can so make the change today.
In this coming New Year, it's really up to you, to be a better person and do all that you can do. We're grown into our parents places as they fade away, looking to our children now to make a better way.
They have filled our spots, these young ones, that we brought onto the Earth. We have taught them to be good folks and gave them a wide birth. We can only hope they listened and leraned from our mistakes. I know we make quiet a few or my name aint Nailcakes.
What I am saying here today, is we did what we could. We were Hippie Pinoneers blazing through the wood. We left our mark on scociety, saying no more war, we brought a message of love and peace, we spread it to every shore.
What people do with the message is really up to them, they can either get on board or learn how to swim. The water she's a rizing, but still they do not see a livesaver has been thrown. It was cast once before and we grabed it on our own.
We came and made a difference, in the world today. The ones that did are still doing, in their little way, to teach the children why and what we came to say. In hopes they carry on what we tried to do.
So there you are, you have it. My dittie for today, I hope it brings you hope and faith with the coming year
Happy New Year Family.
Brightest Blessings

Reconnecting brings it all back home. It gives us a chance to see where we started and how far we have come. Each step we took paved the way for a bridge to common ground, where all are equal under the sun.
It's not about who has more stuff, it's about the stuff inside us.

Zev!!!.. I remember you now ... How young and full of life we were back then..that was right across from where I lived... my my.. I didn't think I'd ever see White House again... it's what I saw everyday when I opened the front door for yrs.
On the first of every month you would see all the Ladys in all their splender, sitiing on the front stoop wating for the mailman to bring the checks that our rich uncle Sam would send us.
We would greet him and usher him to the mailboxs singing and dancing with glee. I think he was the most loved person on the block, I'd never seen anyone else so gloriously welcomed..except when someone didn't get their check or food stamps from dear ole uncle..then he was scum...lol.
I remember how wonderful it was when we would have concerts in the Panhandle, we would make bananna bread and other taste tantilizing treats and pass them out.. like them special brownnies and that delicious punch with them weird floatie things in it..
I member when BB&THC came and brought a pound of Christmas Snow up top in White House. The house vibrated three feet off the ground for weeks and we all had Betty Davis Eyes...lol..
I think most of all it was the Call To Arms that struck me most.. with the VN war raging and a battle field of a different nature taking place on the streets of the cities, it was a war against the establishment. A revelution.. We wanted change, we wanted to live a different lifestyle. WE wanted FREEDOM!! We wanted our indivdualty back..we didn't want to clonealized.
WE didn't want our food, water and air tamper with. We wanted equail pay for equail work, we wanted to teach our children about love, not war.
They wanted us dead.. can you imagain that.. I was glad when Reagan died.. even after all this time, I was glad.. somehow satisfied with his demise. And I was glad that he suffered so long. I hope it was his own guilt that caused his misery.
He killed so many of us, us young kids just teenager, but they wanted us to die. It was so very scary at times. You could feel it in the air.. so thick you could reach out and touch it. Really.. the air would change around you and the vibes so heavy it would make the hair stand up on the back of your neck.
What they taught in school was: we left England bc we wanted freedom to worship and live as we pleased.. to own our own land and raise our families to be good folks and to harm none. Strange thing is, when we exersized our rights we are slaughtered.
Some people may not believe it.. but I saw it for myself.. I saw them bomb one of our houses full of women and children.. I saw them stop the fire dept from putting out the flames. They sneered as they watched it burn.
I had been bashed with billie clubs before and harrassed.. but this was pure evil.. hatered in the raw. Why.. we just wanted to be left alone.. we were not out to harm, kill or do dastredly deeds. The must have been awfully scared of us to want to anilalate us and our babies.
I remember one bust on Hiaght Street, there above Love Burgers in 70.. I was staying with some folks, that had a2 yr old and Jomie was a baby.
The Law Dogs came pounding on the door of the flat we were in and the baby bed was close to the door. I ran and tried to protect the 2 yr old from the door when it came crashing down. I was yelling.. no.. no.. the babies.. they were all over me, beating me to the ground, kicking my ribs in.. They had the other people up against the wall as they pounded me.
When finaly I was laying in a bloody heap on the floor the draged me off to City Prison. I was in jail with three broken ribs a black eye and a busted lip. I had done nothing wrong. In fact they were at the wrong door. They must have felt I was a huge threat to them standing there 20 yrs old, 5'2 and 110 lbs, a weaponless female against about 5 of them. After a few daze they turned me loose with no explination.
Bill and Patty took care of me n Jomie till I was well enough to travel.. I want back to so cail for a couple of months after that to heal. When I came back, I stayed with Bill and Patty in the bottom flat on Cole and Oak facing the Panhandle. I moved to underhouse shortly after that.
Thanks for posting your pic Zev.. so many memories come flooding in.
Bright Blessings

I don't know if I've met any of you, but I and my sidekick stayed at 1915 (I think that was the address) Cole St. for a couple days/nights around the beginning of December (as close as I can come to exactly when) 1971. I remember we each had a couch to crash on, and we were entertained (just rapping) by a couple young ladies up on the 3rd floor, IIRC. The 2nd night, we were taken to a close-by party where someone threw a whole 9x11 cakepan of dope on the fire in the fireplace. What fine folks.
I seem to recall that 1915 was around 4 stories tall. Is my memory correct? BTW, my sig pic is exactly how I looked then, but my hair was shorter. I wore glasses. I think the Cole St. folks had a 3 night limit for crashing.

I distinctly remember Cole St., but maybe that was the street sign that became fixed in my memory. I don't recall being too concerned about my actual location in the 3D universe. More where my head was at, hahaha. Yes, your hospitality was quite noteworthy. I recall waking up to see a sister brushing her long dirty blond locks and watching me, au natural. Hmmmm. I think I was a bit hungover to take her up on the invitation, if that was indeed what it was.
Man, I so miss those days. That was the happiest I've ever been (except for getting married and buying my first Haus). Not a care except where to eat, crash, and find some psychedelics. Now I'm trapped by my stuff (way too much stuff; I have a kilo of Peruvian Torch around here that I can't find hahahaha), and divesting myself of it is just so problematic right now. Well, the real estate, anyways. I could walk away from the furniture and all that. I really want to go vagabonding again.

The first time I heard IABD was the first time I did mescaline (or so it was claimed haha). That was my first religious experience on a psychedelic as well. Good things come in threes, eh? :rainbow: That whole first album is imprinted forever, and it is what I consider to be the best tripping album ever made.

Hi everybody... hey Zev if you are aquainted with anyone from IABD why not see if they want to play Goodstock. We are try to get as many bands as we can.. most of which have been contacted through other means then agents. Agents jack the prices up so high the even preformers couldn't afford to hire themselves.
This has been all word of mouth so far. The gatekeepers are impossible to penetrate asking over 150,000 just for one act for One hour..75% goes to the agent and the agents do nothing.. they dont even sing or play an instrument.. when it's all said and done those same agents will be kickin' themselves in the ass for not being more flexable with their terms..I have been going toe to toe with them for dang near two yrs. There is no love in them. Their light has gone out..
Wickwah if your watching.. see about the dead band and big brother and THC.. they were once the Family band..someone should still have a connection with them personally.. I can't get past the bulldogs at the gate.

I haven't been involved in the rock scene in over 25 years. What little music I've played has been solo blues and standards (you know "cocktail piano"). What happend to the guys from Osceola. Agents do have their uses (they make the calls and haggle over and collect the money, make the travel reservations and keep the books) but they can be ball busters. Sometimes the tribute bands are as good or better than the originals. You are right that appearing at a big festival can help a band's bottom line down the line. It can make anew band and revive interest in an established one. That's what you have to sell to the agents.
If teh people who show up at the festival have the right attitudes and are into a mellow and party time it really doesn't matter who plays so long as they play in tune and in time.
Peace out

You might try to tell the acts that you'll pay tranportation and do a percentage of the gate as their fee. remeber the aent is a business man and if he thinkf the promoters want to make a killing he doesn'twant is performers to play for peanuts. if you let him shar in the profit and risk youmight find him more tractable.

Made my first call yesterday to "someone " up in SF area about some possibilities of getting past the walls you discribe SH.
I am going throught the back door to the production folks/Lighting designers Sound Engineers, etc connected with the ones you speak of. Have planted the seed and will see if after they have checked out what is out there already RE GS 07 what their feeling is about going direct to the PLAYERS in the bands if you know what I mean.
Cross your fingers and maybe things will bloom! After all it is a reality now that SOMETHING will be happening re GS 07 and that alone perked intrest! as the one I spoke to had not heard any word of it yet! There was a very positive "REALLY" when we discussed this.

scratcho, thanks brother for the good energy flow. Feel free to post your stories. bright blessings to you.
Chris, I am very excited to hear of the interest that is starting to surround Goodstock2007, if we can bring thoes bands in that were so close to the family, perhaps Good Earth Commune/Hodads will gather together and have a reunion.. were's Woodstock Nation when you call them to gather.
I would have thought that word had seeped out to everyone with almost 20 pages on google about Goodstock2007. But ya know, we have really just released Goodstock to the media and everything seems to be on scheduel.
When we started GS it was just a seed, the seed has germinated and sprouted beautiful folage, this spring Goodstock will bud and july 19 Goodstock will bloom into an exotic flower.
I don't know if any one realizes that for some of us this could be the last effort to partisapate in something of this magnitude and what it represents... we are growing old and want the comfort we have cocooned ourselve in. Sometime we forget how bold and fearless we once were. That freedom to live a life of your own choosing is paramount to the survival of the message we screamed and whispered to the universe at large in our time of reconning.
We were the leaders that followed the ones that lead us to paradise. Goodstock is the perfect time and place to re-kindel and reuninte and pass the message to the leaders that will follow us.
Good Earth was a haven for thousands of travelers serching for the truth of it. If the truth were told, history would have found GE started most everything that was happenin' in The Haight.
Good Earth sponsored The Diggers free store on Belvedere(sp) Had the headshop on Haight by the Straight Thearter, sponsored The Dead there at the ST also. Not only that but had the Food Conspiricy, the re-cycling centre on Haight. A garage fixing cars, trucks and scooters.. We had a moving company and we rentovated half of the shops on Haight Street itself, we had meetings with Sherif Hongesto(sp) monthly and did community service to help keep the peace in the Haight.
Almost every commune had been started at GE or past through on a steady basis. The STP family had roots in GE as did Wheelers, The Wahs were also intertwined with Good Earth. The Hog Farm was related to GE. Ken Kesey, Peter Coyote,The Greatful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and THC had all crashed at GE at least a dozen times after partying hard and heavy. I believe Wavy Gravy had been to GE on occation. We did have the best and the worst of it.
I would love to invite Hugh Romney to Goodstock but I cannot find any contact info on him. Like you said Chris, finding a back door is a challange if you don't have a contact to get you past the gatekeepers.. them bulldogs at the gate can be mean.
Chris, I'm glad you are on the Goodstock Bus.. we're gonna have a great time. I cant wait to hug you and Shelia all up.
Peace

You can't know how much I felt your last post. While I'm sure we still have many good times ahead of us, Goodstock may be the last GREAT time. Even if I just lay back and do nothing for the 3 days, the hope that the tribes will gather brings me up and gets me high. it will be good to see you after all these years and I hope to see a whole bunch of the family there. it would be a gas. Ranger, take note. Get a big bus together. I know you can do it. Mouse, you're ex-navy. I know you can navigate your way there (even though it's overland). A family OM after all these years would be a trip.
Peace out.

That's a great idea schlubelberg.
Zev, The unity we shared back then is what kept me strong all these yrs. Each time a 'family' member shows up it renews my faith in what we represented and still do. We are all still family no matter what time or distance seperates us, in our hearts we are still united. I hope we have not all grown fat and lazy, putting off the calling that is still within us to show the love and our strenght.
I talked with Big Brother and The Holding Company's manager yesterday, I hope they decide to come aboard. They hung out a lot at GE.
What we need now is to sell some tickets, we can't wait till the last minute bc we are using the sale of tickets to pay the bands. If we can't make our bottom line with in the next couple of months, we can't bring the bands in.
We have tried to get all the bands that the people request to Goodstock and we have managed to create one hell of a manifesto. It's up to each one of you that we have done our best for to make Goodstock happen. The fate of Goodstock lays with the people now. I would also like to mention that we are still accepting Nat'ls and if enough tickest are sold there will be no limit on who we bring in.
Now go out and buy a ticket or volunteer or something, just get involved, you wont regret it.
Bright Blessings

For a few days I have been talking to a very nice lady 'Sonya Wiley', of Rob Devine's office represents a lot of bands from the 60s/70s I've been contacting for Larry. As we talked I told her of Good Earth Commune and the close knittedness with the Bands in the area, back in the day, like the Dead, Big Brother, The Airplane, ect.
It seems that Sonya's mother was very familar with Good Earth and all the things we had done for the community and music and tuned her in on what a great opportunity it would be for eveyone from back then to get together and what a great line up we we were developing for Goodstock.
Some of the bands themselves are coming because of Good Earth or was the convencing thing for them to agree. They're showing up for us, are we gonna show up and show our support for them. Do I hear a Hell Yeah!!
Can you imagain the fun.. all the things that we hold with the ones that rocked us through the 60s in The Haight and beyond. They still remember us and care.

Be nice to have Ram Dass bless the event, eh?
I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of map so I could get a feel for the layout of the festival. I might be willing to do something with food, as long as the intent would not be to maximize profit. I mean, I know how much wholesale food costs, and I won't be a part of something that is ripping people off by selling 4 dollar hot dogs. My inclination would be to have either something nutritious, or lots of fresh fruit, which doesn't require paper or plastic to consume.
I haven't bought my tickets yet, because I don't know how many will be coming with me, but it will be at least 2 of the 3-day tickets.

Schlu,
There is a map on the GS website..if you were looking for the type of land layout there is a pic of where we will be on the bands page. It may take a sec to load. It's beautiful with soft rolling hills gently sprawling up to the Appalacians. Very picturesk.
There will be no price goughing, If anyone goughes they are gone. NO Refund, just gone. WE ask what your vending and what you are charging, if you charge to much your not accepted into GS to vend
That is what is so unque about Goodstock, it's not about the money, it's about the music.
I think fresh fruit would be grand, no muss no fuss and so yummy. Great on a warn summers day.
Thank for the support

SH is that Rob Devine from Maximus Entertainment in Austin?
I think I meet him at a big party that High End Systems ( a big Lighting Manufacter in AUSTIN) put on at a place on 6th street I think. It was a few years back when I was useing/owned a lot of the lights they made and I was in town going over the specs for a tour we were doing at the time. I think High End was going to put a bunch of light on tour for one of his "CLIENTS"?? If so I hope that you have good luck in getting whatever you need from him/them!! FINGERS CROSSED!!
If not the same person still GOOD LUCK! FYI I am working on trying to see what I can get committed for GS re Stage Production Stuff..Lights and Sound. Wish me luck! lol

Cool thought the name sounded familar!!
Take him out and Convince him that his CLIENTS (the bands he reps) NEED TO DO THIS gig for Karma points!!! GL FOR sure in your dealings!!
AND yes WHERE are a lot of folks there days!! lol
I am hitting some slow to totally commitment gear to me issues right now as the GS07 is happening during the SUMMER TOUR/FESTIVAL time. AND there still needs to be a bit more CONCRETE info that I need to get so we can work on the reality of what the proper equipment for the stage will end up being. I am sure that the guys will get me the info I need for height and debth things. I have e-mailed them with my questions.
A good sign is that two Companies I have approached for "the BROTHER" deal have not said NO to my discussions! Actualy our talks have been more like "lets figure out how we can make this work" so that is GOOD indeed! There are some hurdels (sp) but there is reason to not be discouraged so that is a good sign!!
AND like I figured there is no problem getting Companys to Say they will give me BIDS on Equiptment. Just need to give them an Equipment spec for the bid to come. BUT they are the folks who are the PAY ME FIRST types and they will be there next week so I am not going to work on them right now.
I REALLY want to see if I can get someone who will do the HELP A BROTHER out deal!!
Keep the vibes(good vibes that is) going. I have one Company working on a special lighting rig for me right now. IF they come through with the system I am requesting it will be VERY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But do not want to jinx it so I am not putting on to much pressure ...YET! lol
Also have two other vendors working on similar rigs but have not been able to get them to say that they can "GIVE" me the gear for the week needed yet!!!
GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!!
FYI If there are any of the folks out there who have a Tractor Trailer/ or Drive one for a Company who travels/HAULS lets hook up!!! post here for info on further contact!
TC SH and like I said KEEP THE GOOD VIBES FLOWING!!!!!!!!!!

I can dig the karma points, that's always a plus. I see it very plain, how simple it is with the right mindset. I just wonder what folks minds are set on lately. The Help a Brother Out thing has always been formost. Pay it forward, in helping out, you will be helping out yourself in the long run. bc doing good for others brings joy to the heart and draws positive energy back to you.. The love you give today will be the love you will recive tomorrow.
I have faith good brother, I still believe in what we strove for back in the day, it has never left me. We just need to tighten up a little and bring the circle closer. Sometimes the living of life gets in the way and we are too caught up in the hustle and bussle of what they call progress to do something good for the spirit. We forget that we are Spirits having a Human experience. We need food for the soul and rock and roll is our soul food. It is what we based our lives on, it is what brought us all together in likemindedness.
We are reaching out to our brothers and sisters to come and pay it forward, we are doing all this in good faith that brotherhood and unity is not a thing of the past but alive in our Spirits.
Brightest Blessings to you Chris and all that your doing.

Well I will tell you this ZEV, It will be their loss not to be involved in either places.
We had to take the eastern part, there was no place else to hold it. We looked to find a location that would suit all the needs that surrounded GS, camping, vending, parking, and all the people. I asked MM ,spud and a few other family, but they had nothing to offer more centralized. We took The GoodEvening Ranch bc of it's splendor and it suited all the needs GS had.
As far as 'The Family' goes, well, people get too wrapped up in their owns lives to take a moment to reflect and be reminded of why we are here. What brought us together in the first place.
It's time to reach out brothers and sisters and reuninte with the tribes. To gather and have great energies bonding in a show of strenght in brotherhood and the love we held. Maybe the love is gone for some, but for the ones that still believe and are not too fat and lazy to get up and SHOW THE LOVE to the world once more and to reinforce it into our own hearts and into the future of the youngers.
The ones who think themselve eliet should remember Dylans lyrics, 'The First One Now, Will Later Be Last' and 'He that gets left will be he who has stalled'. The Order is rapidly changing.
The message has always been in the music, have we stopped listening, stopped growing, stopped loving beyond our own back yard. If what I called my Family for so long and stood next to them in battle and in closeness of heart is just a empty shadow of a lost dream, so be it. At least I will know where loyalties lay and put it behind me.
I hope I never stop learning and growing and I pray I never think I'm too selfinportant to get down and boogie with my buddies and show the love we talk about so much.
The way I see it, one cannot be clanish or clickish, it forms boundries and that's how war and greed start. In my biz' I see a lot of different kinds of folks, they all want to do something about their 'condition' but yet they themselves will do nothing to bring the change about. People are funny creatures, the heart is willng but the flesh is weak. People dont want change if they has to partisapate in the changing of their habits or their views on life, liberty and the pursuit of their own happiness.
Goodstock is Blessed and will go on, without me, you or GE. She will flourish in the loving energy she has gained in truth, in dedication, and for the people and by the people who do still give a fuck.
If I go down today, at least I will be trying to bring about change as I go. At least I was doing something worth while with my time here. At least I came when I was called, at least I showed up even if no one else does. I will go to Creator knowing I did what was asked of me in my best ability to do so.
Everyone needs to be comfy in their own skin. People are gonna do what suits them. That's cool too. There is no love in force. Love comes to the ones that give love., gently and unshelfishly.
Bright Blessings

There are so many memories attached to the music we all made together, the good time we shared and the unbreakable bond that was so strong in it's youth.
Babies come and priorities, the circle widens, the vibe is scattered and we lose contact. People grow their own way and build their nest around their young, leaving old friendships dusty on the shelf.
Something to look at occationaly and then put back up on the shelf when the feelings start to get too strong, saying ahhh, that was another place and another time. In Spirit there is no time and we carry all things old and new within us always.
Sometimes it is eaiser to just put it aside bc otherwise you would have to do something about it, and well, dang it, I don't wanna do nuthin' bout nuttin' attitude developes holding us back from what is good for the Spirit.
I know I could not be the only one that hears/feels the beat of the drum calling like it did in the dawning of the age of aquarius.. now with the age of aquiarius is in full swing the calling is again upon us... look it up.. feel the vibe, catch the fever and take part in being human.
Remember the Human Be Ins in the park, the death of a hippy, well we arent dead, we never did die. It was propaganda from some of our so called leaders that had surrcomed to the temptations of lust, greed, ego and the needle and suffered the death of themselves, not the Movement or Hippiedom.
The Spirit of The Hippie survives in our youth, our children and theirs to come, the seed was planted on the earth and flourishes in the hearts of mankind from generation to generation. We will always be what we are, seekers of truth and light, giving and loving in our nature. Freedom fighters, strong in our beliefs that are all part of the universe and Creation and we all have our place on earth to dwell in happiness and doing the work that is at hand to fulfill our spiritual needs.
We still hold all of that which is Divine Love, there is no loss in Divine Love there-for there is nothing to lose. Divine Love is a symphony in the heart, bringing joy to the spirit.
The Spirit brings that music of the heart, the beat that we are all connected to, that pulling force that draws us to gather and together we join in song and celebrate our Spirits in living flesh.
We need to put some good vibes back into the universe and the universe loves gatherings, music and dancing, people enjoying them selves and lovin' each other.. it counter balances the negitive shit out there. Too much negitivity creates a negitive enviroment and we all suffer the darkness it brings.
Lets bring some Light into the world and have a Festival of Love at Goodstock2007.. dont fight it, ya know ya wanna go, so just do it.. it's all in the doing that gets things done.
(you knew I was leading up to it, I can't help myself, I'm driven :P )

Hey wizev... Now that is a GREAT Idea!
In fact one that if could be made to happen is a DIRECT, GREAT, BUDGET helper.
TRUCKING is always a seperate cost!!
A lot of the equipment production houses where the Sound, Lights, Backline, are located DO NOT own their own trucks so they hire out the trucking to others. Sometimes they do in fact set up the trucking with a Truck Company for you but it is still a cost that if we can Control ourselves it would reduce the HARD COST that has to come from somewhere!
And that savings can be real nice!.. Hey all you truckers you KNOW that when you do a rock show that you get to hang and party and access everplace during the event and have a GREAT TIME!
Waiting to hear lol

I do know one trucker well enough to ask tho, It's kinda far in advance to know if he'll be getting a load to WV from down here. have you printed off any flyers Zev.. You are in the music biz and frequent clubs and hang with other artist dontcha.. that would be a great place to start handing out or tacking up some flyers :)
Maybe get some interested folks in group and rent an rv or start a ride share.. if everyone pitches in perhaps you can get a caravan going.. how fun would that be... like an old timey wagon train going to the promise land :)
Zev and you applied to be a volunteer.. volunteers get two free pass's to GS, a campsite meals/beverages, t-shirt, a cd, and other memorabilia.. I believe you have to do 3, four hours shifts and the rest of the time is yours to enjoy the festival. I bet you could trade a pass for a ride if you want to go that route.

Wrote Larry about volunteering (possibly emceeing - with a little bit of humour) but haven't heard back. He had mentiond something about leaving tickets for me at the gate. If you talk to him see if you can clear it up.
I'm glad Mouse is doing well (and sad h won't get to Goodstock) he was/is one of my favorite people in the family.
Finally I must say that the thought of you being a grandma blows my mind.

The tickets are are compliments from Nailcakes bc you are family.. don't worry we will have stuff for you to do.. I believe Artie Kornfeld will be MCing the event but perhaps you'll be needed on the yelo sub stages.
Larry hasn't gotten to the volunteers yet. He is still going over contracts for the bands. A most teadious undertaking and probably the hardest to come to terms with or should I say meet the terms.. good grief.. I sure don't envy Larry's job.

Hi Cakes was in Hospital for a while so was interuppeted on getting bids out to Companys for a few days. Back on it starting today. Larry also had a brush with disaster but is OK so I think that means something!!
Cakes I heard about the Woodpecker thing while back and it is indeed a drag. I am sending as many good vibes as I can to try to counter the negative vibes that is being thrown around. Such bs makes me feel like J.Edgar HOOVER is trying to come back to life!!!! Our love goes out to any/all effected.
I was wondering about the Orygun CF and the close timing to GS. Every year I hear back that many get to the Fair. All have a great time. Mouse and the other folks who have been doing the Security for the Fair have been one of the many reasons for the success of the Fair! It is such a big event now and the old Hoe Dads(and the different Crews from around the state) who have been part of the Fair Family for all this time now will indeed be very busy with the Fair. It is a very LARGE event. No Ti (sp) becomes a Big Town during the Fair week! Without the GREAT efforts by all involved it would not work!!
I saw (your post I think) asking where are all the Bros and Sisters that maybe could help out for GS. I think MANY may be involved with the Fair. Or attend to see old friends and family. That may be why a lot of the west Coasters are unable to make it to GS.
Before GS popped up I was going to try to get up to the Fair myself this year as it has been so so long (to long) since I have seen a lot of folks. The Fair is a great gathering every year. Many of the folks from many different flos/familys are at the Fair.. or come to it!
I wish them all a TRULY GREAT FAIR!

Hi Chris,
Sorry to hear you have not been well.. I hope you feels betta now :) Yea Mouse man is doing the Kettle Corn thing at the OCF.. him and Heather are very excited about it too.. I do wish them the best..
On another note a sadder note.. We lost Taurus Barbra to Hep-C.. Barbra was a famous writer and a good earth sister. She had been battling hep-C for many years.. she had two liver transplants and rejected the first on.. the second one took but the Hep_C came back and ate it up.. Bless Her Heart she suffered terribly.. She is at peace now resting gently in the arms of Creator.

SO SO sad to read about TB. DAM DAM hep C a killer of many now. Wasn't one of her works the Photo book "TELEGRAPH at night"?? I could be confused about that but I remember that book as there were a few pics of some of my partners at the time in it. NON of me though and I would not allow any pics of me to be taken lol....An old Superstition on my part. It cronacolized (PLEAZE FOR GIVE MY BAD SPELLING) a bit of the NIGHT scene near the end of of that era of some "street hanging" around the Hill on Telegraph In Berzerkely? Early 70s as I recall???. No matter TB will be missed. BUT TB will always be remembered forever in her works and in the minds and hearts of many!!!
Wizev.. The Fair is located outside of EUGUENE Orygun actually very close if not in the small township of NO TI ORYGUN . I think the First or second weekend of August BUT CHECK that as it has been 20 pluss years since my last OCF. It has been going on now for so many years. As I recall the DEAD kicked off the First OCF. KK a lot of folks from The Creamery in Springfield used to come all the time too. AND MANY OTHERS. LOTS of Vendors of NEW AGE, Alt EnERGY, GREEN IDEAS, FOOD FOOD FOOD. familys singles and KIDS GALORE! A VERY GOOD TIME!!
My LAST FAIR was when the DEAD came back for what I think was the 10th or the (5th lol memory burp!) anaversary of the Fair. I was with Homegrown Reforestation at the time(one of the Hoe Dad Tree Planting Co-op groups) who were spread through out the state but Euguene was the headquaters for the DADS! The Hoe Dads and friends had been doing the Security for the Fair back then too. As I recall we used to Get a Tee Shirt and camp site and a few other perks for our work shifts. It was a GREAT THING!! I was actually working the Stage security with Sheila my wife, Terry L, and others that year. It was great as we had a yurt that we stayed in by the stage. My Bus was used by the WAHS, l think it may have been GregWahs last fair. Buddy and probally Tubbie too used my Bus that year and it was parked with others busses at one of the prime Camp sites. It was a very fun FAIR. With the Dead and others playing over the weekend (Robert Cray also) and with KKs Brother trying to pick up Sheila all weekend it was a hoot and hollerin good time!
The OCF is Incorporated now (I THINK) and they have bought the land where the annual fair is at. There is a little (very little Creek the LONG TOM as I recall??)creek running through the Site and one of the BIG TIME events is the MIDNIGHT Circus. The OCF is a very very cool event and I think that it may be the best place to catch up with a bunch of old Family and Flos who are around. VERY FANTASTIC.
Mouseman and some of the others have really become part and parcel of the success of the event I am told!..
They may have a web site??????
Cakes I am going through some BS on the health side a reocurrance of some issues but I will make it pass!! lol I ain't dead yet!!

Taura Barbara wrote under the name Barbara Seranella. You can find her books on Amazon.com. For a story on her passing you can check out this link.

She was a tough chick. I can still see her crawling out from under a vehicle with a grease smeared face and a pissed off look on her face (that ususally turned quickly into a smile after you passed her a forty.
Hope all is well with y'all.

Ranger, Barbara's website is www.barbaraseranella.com (http://www.barbaraseranella.com) it has a list of all her books and awards and where you can get them.
Barbara was waiting for her thrid liver when she passed.. I had emailed her several times over the past few months and had not heard back.. I know why now.. I was afraid the worst had happened when I didn't hear back from her. The last time we had talked she told me the Hep-C was taking over the second liver. She was in good spirits and was writing her last book that came out this month.

Thaks Zev.. I fixed it.. I was typing through tears.. Barbara was my friend.. we lived in the same house we partied together for 3 or 4 years.. yes.. she will be remembered and missed..
I would like to say that Barbara's husband Ron was/is a jerk and left her in the middle of her pain bc he was tired of being around her sick all the time.. his vow meant nothing and he is a rich selfish snob. She deserved better!! So bc he was at her deathbed and the divorce had not been filed yet so guess who gets all Barbara's money from her books..Ron. Barbara had no children... screw that selfish bastard..
I'm not buying her books now bc Ron gets the royalties, I will not make him richer over Barbara's death when he left her when she needed him most.
Sorry for the negitivity folks.. but like I said, we were friends and shared feelings.

These days my primary motivation for reading is enjoyment. If I start reading a book and I don't enjoy it, I can't and or will not finish it. This has happened to me time and again recently.
However, I've been following the talk on this thread about Barbara Seranella and her books, so I decided to check out the local library to see if they had any of her books. To my delight and surprise the library had several, if not all of her books.
I got a copy of "No Human Involved" and now, I finally have something that I can enjoy reading. Excuse the expression, but I'm really "grooving" on it!

Just finished reading 2 of Barbara's books including her first one. Couldn't put them down. I wish I had found them before she passed so I could have told her how great they were. A lot of what's in them reminds me of her and the old days.
Cakes, how do you know about her spouse running out on her? The intro to one of her 2006 books is dedicated to (among others) her loving husband Ron "who stuck with me thru "sick & sin" (sic)". I only got one email back from TB in which she told me she couldn't remeber me at all. Doesn't matter cause I'l never forget her or the other members of the G.E.family.

LOL Safty Pin
I have been in EVERY State in US and to every Contaniant except antartica!!
When you were on the road at an early age back then the oppertunities to travel were endless. AND MANY times getting back on the road was the only thing that kept any sanity for me! Always searching for "THE SPOT".
I Found a lot of good ones a lot less GREAT ones and have been blessed to have held on to a couple of best ones!!
Back then from 69-74 Hitching and moving fast was easy and became a life style of sorts!! One that many were called and some were chosen!!
I hung at Cornell on Lake Cayuga(sp), U 0f M at Ann Arbor,
U of W at Madison U of C at Boulder. UC Berzerkly, Flordia in Gainsville. along with MANY others along the way!!. Guess that may mean I got a college degree!! lol lol
As I always had my guitar case with me and my dog I was picked up by lots of folks(mostly young women in College) and it allowed me to crash all over the Country!! lol
After the death of the total FREEDOM MOVEMENT which was happening just as I was showing up as a young pup, traveling was the best bet for me. I was moving fast and furious and after the late/end of 60,s street life became a suspect thing in some places and you needed to be able to move out fast! And I did lol
OH BACK TO THE BOOK lol
I think Telegraph 3 A.M. may be the title?? I will find it as it was given to me by my wife who got it from friend of mine around 77/78.
I THINK Tumbleweed gave it to Greg who gave it to Sheila for me. She knew some my STP Family(remaining ones at the time and others) were in the pictures and that it would be a good birthday present me. She remembered some of the storys told and lived. This book was a documentation of some of them and she wanted me to have it as I refused to have pictures taken! She told me this would remind me of how I/IT was and when I was old I would appreciate it! After all she was the reason I stopped the street life. She was right.........of course lol.
I did not know this was stiring up so much "INTEREST".
I will go and check the BOX FROM THE PAST and I will find it and post all info. lol
SO in in closing, Safty Pin yes I did get around!!! I was always on the move up till 74. It was then that I began to slow down and began to settle!
Now I have been married for 32years and we only moved like 6 or 7 times while married lol
I am REALLY SETTLED now as the Orygun Property is sold and the Cali place is paid off and the Molokai' place is too. Sheila decided on FORCED SETTLEMENT after too much fun and three boys born!! AT least we have two places to bounce back and forth from. And places to stay all over!!!
ah BRIGHT MOMENTS!!!

Hi all here is the info on the "BOOK" lol
Title: RELEGRAPH 3 A.M./The Street People of Telegraph Avenue Berkely California
AUTHOR/PHTOGRAPIST: RICHARD MISRACH
Publication number 1
Cornucopia Press 1974
Library of Congress Catalogue Card#74-16786
TO:Denise,Grace, the Earth People's Park Commune and the rest of the street people
Special Thanks to the National Endowment for the Arts who helped make the project possiable. Also, thanks and permissions granted by the publishers who hold the rights to quotes in the book:
Babylonian Penitential Psalms, (and many others as stated in front of book)
5% of all the profits from the book were to be given to Berkely Food Project and the Berkely Free Clinic.
Only 3000 copies of the book were printed by Phelps/Schaefer Litho-Graphics,S.F. CA September, 1974
After perusing it again MANY memories of folks from my past were brought back to the front of my mind along with struggles that we faced at the time.
Sheila was also able to have it signed by Mr. Misrach who was teaching at UCBerekly back then. A nice touch. And she put her own incription in the beginning remarking that this would be an important reference for me/us in the future to look back on to remind us of our "Spirt" and of times that will not be repeated!
peace/love
Wah
If anyone wants to know if any pics of them are in the book ask and I will let you know! Street names were the norm so that will most likely be how any pictured will be represented.
ps JD there is a great shot of you and Creeps(steve C) and you are called Street Musicians.. Apt representation for you JD but for Creeps.....lol His "Good Carma Wood Company" will be SEARED in Sheilas memory forever as that was the WETEST LOAD of wood ever to be provided to her when we lived in the Tiller house!! That story still is remembered every year when we light up the fireplace the first time each season!! May Steve Rest in Peace!!

Wild Bill is in Romania making movies.. I heard there's a branch of GE in Belgium..Spud hasn't heard from Bill in a while..I think he went Zin. Spud will be in Eugene at the OCF with Mouseman and Heather, Mouse and Heather will be selling Kettle Korn. MM siad they may be moving to Mexico after what happen to Woodpecker.
GE was thinking about having a reunion at Goodstock, but the OCF was too close to when GS was happening and they are committed to OCF.
I would have a reunion here at the farm, but most of the family are in Oregon and I don't know if they would travel that far.
When Ranger and Rita came to visit me last yr, Ranger said Eden and Kitten were still in the city. I talked to Eden on the phone a few times.. she hasn't changed a bit :)

Hi Good Earthers,
OCF is cool by me... I was thinking of having a get together here for the weekend here.. I don't know if anyone wants to come to Texas but it is lovely in the Spring.. the summers are too hot and humid and misqutoes and fire ants are out in force, not a good time to have it here, then. Most everyone is already up there anyway, so it stands to reason that Eugene would be the place for the next reunion.

Fall is on it's way..The Sun is moving over to make room for the Moon. the Sun vacations in the far east while the Moon washes us in Silvery beems of light..the friut on the vine grows smaller as the Sun moves further away.. The morning dew lay heavily on the green grass.. steam rizes from the pavement as the cool mist meets the heat the Sun left on the road... creating a foggy eerieness that intriges the sences... a cool breeze sends a shiver as it refreshes the body from the sweat of summers heat when the Sun rizes high.. The Moon kisses the Sun goodnight as Luna puts on her night dress of silvery essences and dons the sky in her mistque. Nocturnal as the Hootie Hoot of the wise old Owl drifts over the meadow and the night creatures skidder long the path, filling their bellies on natures buffet... the only sound is the crickets solom vow to sing through the night to let all living things know that all is well in the Kingdom.

Hi Luvi,
Wow that sounds so cool, ya know I never thought Dylan would make it this far, I'm amazed that heroin didn't take him down like it did a lot of the Beats. I was such a Dylan fan in my wee teens, Joan, Buffy, Odetta, Dave Van Ronk..they paved the way, we followed.
How we have progressed. It has been a long and rocky road but we made it. We stayed, Why I don't know.. to teach maybe, or to learn.. both most likely. In any case, it's good to be alive.
Bright Blessings

Hi all;
Dylan wasn't a beat. He was our generation. A hippie freak like you and me rebelling aganist a middle class Jewish upbringing. For most of us grass, acid and some coke (when we could afford it) kept us away from H. The performers you mention bring back the memories of many a great concert, party or be-in.
Peace out

Hi Zev,
I always conciderd Dylan a beat, he is old enough,..It's the 'Coffe House' scene that represent Beatnick stylin'.. protest song.. poetry in motion.. Dylan was a Poet Lauriet of the Protest generation. I came in at the tailend of beatnickisum..I learned from the beats of SoCali.. they were older.. but I identified with them..I was in my depression phase around 12/13.. I know socali was not a burnin' bed of beats.. but they had their cult none the less, it was they who groomed me for hippiedom.. Dylan is/was a wanderin' minstril..not unlike Woody Guthry puttin' out there..Dylan and the juvinal justice system taught me the injustic of man.. to me Dylan represented beatnick phylosopy.
Hippisum grew from the root of the beat tree..their offspring..they were Hip.. we were/are Hippies.. our roots are beat..us olduns, The X generation are our offspring.. we did raise a radical group up behind us.. I wonder if the beats felt the same way about the hippes..but acctually we were the action behind the thought.. while the beats brought it to the surface, it was the hippie movement that brought change..the X generation hasn't done much to perpetuate the movement.. we either didn't teach them well, or they weren't listening. Like all generations, they rebeled.. but their rebelion is against peace, love and brotherhood..if we would have taught them war, like we were taught, they would have been hippies rebeling against us.. maybe their offspring will return to the garden, as they in turn rebel against them..
And the Seasons they go round and round
And the painted Ponies go up n down
We're captured on a carrousale of time.
Any way, it's just the way I feel..I can't really say when the Beats started or finished, bc there are still beats around..some still happenin'.. they were kind of inbetweeners.. 40s/50s earily 60s era.. Like I said I came in, in the earily 60s, 62/63.. They (the beats) orginated in the 20s/30s in the "Speakeasys' smoken' reffer and sniffin' cocaine.. but it was in the 50s that beats were what was Hip. They even had cartoons about beatnicks, sittin' in coffee houses snappin' their fingers to poets commentary.. I was inthralled, captivated by their aura, I believe that is when I 'Felt' my path..
whew.. one toke over the line..lol.. BONGGG..

Not to be a bring down BUT there was PLENTY of "H" and in fact that and the economy of the "H DEAL" was way more distructive AS I RECALL than a lot of other issues. I can understand why for some it may also be easy to forget!
Maybe because I had some very close to me die with needle in arm and also go the route that the "H" train traveled I have such a vivid memory of it??. It even REACHED the Mountains but thank "all things good and cosmic" it never lasted or became a powerful distraction and created very little distruction in the Mountains that I saw! The Mountains had PLENTY OF SNOW tho and of course that had it own set of "complications" and was often welcomed. AND in a great abundance. Maybe it was the altitude!! It also was/is not the best karma creator either and I am not giving it a recommenddation. QUITE the contrary let it melt out of your way also!!!! The Black,Brown, and White powders all are linked to D and D and is best to leave them be!!
RE: BoB Zimmer.....opps Dylan he himself discribed the road of the minstrials and beat houses. I too am glad that He is still making it happen in Live shows. His writings(poems, songs) are some of the best of our generation. I am very happy to have been able to actually meet and provide lights for some of his performances over the years.
Having the oppertunity to actually get to shoot the shit (even if just to relate to the problems of the backdrop you travel with or how my kid tells us that we expend way to much energy on simple shit) and just talk about stuff other than how "FAMOUS" was a pleasure. His stories of early travels sure seem to have crossed plenty of the BEAT scene. Book readings and coffee house scenes seem to have been places where some chops and styles came from. Maybe he will write a book about it??
But that was before BIG PINK I assume and electric Bob lol
Well all, Autum is upon us again enjoy the BIG change of Season as the leaves fall again. I hope all will have great harvests, plenty of food, a cozy warm abode, be set for and have a safe Winter!
peace/love

PS We lose more close ones everyday.......always make sure the last thing you say to those you care about is "I LOVE YOU" even if just going to the store or to work. You never know when the "last time" you see someone you love will be. So if the last thing you ALWAYS say to them is I LOVE YOU then the lasting memory or thought will be one of love!! You will never regret it if you do this!
Maybe Bob D can write a song about this!!

It just occured to me to ask if anyone out there has a copy of the poster that was made of the backside of the house with the mural and all the folks hanging out the windows smiling and waving? If you do could you find a way to post it?

Hi Chris,
I never was into *H* much, I have tried it on occation but never aquired a taste for it. I wanted to be up and doing things. I didn't like to drool on myself and puke for fun. It seemed counter productive to me. I had too many friends on it and never did know what they saw in it, besides death. Altho there have been some brilliant writers to come from riding the White Horse, or chasing the snake.. sometimes I wish I had been addicted, so I would be a better writer.
Hey Zev,
Iridology is ther study of the Iris. To judge the integrity of the body..why dontcha join the class and really find out what's about.. all good things are worth learning.. it's very easy.
Hey Ranger,
Didn't Mouseman say he had that poster, I really think he does.. he said it was 'folded' up and was so old it's cracking apart.. He wont post it bc of the condition.. someone else was looking for that poster too..I think it was Leslie Rose.
Love yas
