I was once lost
But now am found
Feet once again planted
Firmly on the ground
I forgot the comfort and relief
Of surrendering to belief
But to this feeling I should remain a stranger
However tempting, I cannot ignore the danger
I've come so far
And given up so much
To lay down now - and to such
A gliding ghost and oriental breeze
A life of resignation; the poppy disease
I do not wish to stay this way
And so I must journey far away
To heal the sickness with which I am now afflicted
To purge myself of the drug to which I'm now addicted
I'll slay this slumber with reason
Even as my heart revolts "treason!"
I will tumble down the hill all alone
And prepare once again to push up my stone
But now am found
Feet once again planted
Firmly on the ground
I forgot the comfort and relief
Of surrendering to belief
But to this feeling I should remain a stranger
However tempting, I cannot ignore the danger
I've come so far
And given up so much
To lay down now - and to such
A gliding ghost and oriental breeze
A life of resignation; the poppy disease
I do not wish to stay this way
And so I must journey far away
To heal the sickness with which I am now afflicted
To purge myself of the drug to which I'm now addicted
I'll slay this slumber with reason
Even as my heart revolts "treason!"
I will tumble down the hill all alone
And prepare once again to push up my stone
