View Full Version : Why do you use psychedelic drugs?
Weatherman

I have often asked myself this question, especially in the early days, usually while I was tripping. "Why I am I doing this?" I think its some sort of combination of all those up there, and it varies from trip to trip. Sometimes I really don't know. Lately I've just been enjoying brief escapades into the surreal for its own sake.
EDIT: I forgot to add artistic inspiration up there, but I can't edit the poll anymore. Damn.

hmm i have only used salvia divinorum and mushrooms before, but here are some reasons im interested in using psychedelic entheogens...
-spiritual enlightenment
-to see things from different perspectives
-to be free
-to keep myself creative
i voted the first option

I haven't tripped too much, but the reasons in order of importance for me would be:
Rekindle some creativity/art
Try and figure myself out
Fun
Spirituality
Spirituality I haven't gone into much yet, but I want to get into meditation more and maybe do something like Peyote Walk or something like that someday...

Except "to be wild" all of the above... more or less...
I started drugs, because I was curious.
I continued, because it was fun.
I still went on, because I wanted to find out more about myself and my dark sides.
I became an expert, because I wanted to use drugs to improve myself.
Now I use them for spiritual completion.
I love them, because they allow me to see "behind the things".

if i picked 'other' it would probably be that tripping allows one to experience a part of themselves that no non-tripper could ever imagen. i feel like i have a more complete picture of conciousness and such than i ever would if i never triped. "30 years of zen meditation or a couple hits of acid." so-they-say.
i used to crave to leave this planet and its ways, to experience something completely different and new, like i could never imagen... then i ate some mushrooms and was grateful.
Edit: haha wow that sounds stupid... but.. yea </edit>

i use psychedelics very rarely....maybe once or twice a year...usually at festivals...i gave up doing them in my friends condos because i alwasys feel restricted.....its all about being outdoors with people you love...wide open spaces....just feeling it....the first time i did it, it was for fun....now its for many reasons.....but i don't do mushrooms anymore, they don't agree with my body or mind...its all about acid....

Why do people live? Why do we think, or ask questions? Not only because we can, because we want to find out. There is certainly definitive answers and those answers are more questions. The exploration of one's mind and power only leads where? We are God, prime creator, we are. Now you can search the internet high and low and critisize anything and everything you want, you can even tell me to chill out, but you know what, the truth is you cannot stop anything. We are experiencing, and those capable of handling psychedelic mind expanding drugs, let them percieve ancient information and creativity that they may take anywhere in their lives here and there after this physical life. Without physical limits the mind would not experience emotions the way it does, thus making something real in the universe that gives us purpose, we experiment, there is always more that we don't know than that we do know. And if when we feel we know everything we cannot be aware of it. Its everything and nothing. Opposites, ying and yang, we are just everything in between that makes it infinite. What lies beyond that, ask more questions.

i smoked a bowlpack of salvia, about a half an hour ago, i am pretty down now but i still feel a little buzzed.but heres what happend.
i met with a tree named oshk (not sure how to spell it but he pronouced it O-SH-EK) he said he was the watcher and kepper of all woods and forests.
he talked to me about how when people are walking around in the woods they do not care for the ants along the path that they might be stepping on, most humans will travel unknowingly killing thousands of things. he put all the things about ants in a perspective i have never thougt of.. we do not know much about the behavior of ants, he put me in the place of an ant and i felt the feelings of human relationships in this ant form. i was showed my friends and fellow workers that i had a strong connection with, i was told that i had died by a child with a magnifine (sp?) glass and now all those ants that had an emotional attachment had horriblely sad feelings and i had to feel them and i did. the moral of this trip is respect every living thing because we really do not know anything about them personly. Oshk was narrating (sp?) the whole time and i soon feel out of the ants life and saw oshk and he said that if you were to imagine the daily life of a small creature with such precision as our memories you would take care of every little living creature.

Oshk was narrating (sp?) the whole time and i soon feel out of the ants life and saw oshk and he said that if you were to imagine the daily life of a small creature with such precision as our memories you would take care of every little living creature. i pretty much beieve that, when we trip, we're telling ourselves these things and making all of what happens up in our minds. we're just able to make up worlds and personalities to convey what our minds "want" to "tell" us. for instance, i was walking through a flattend corn field and when i looked down, all the husks n stocks n stuff looked like faces of old corn wizards (or whatever). so i felt bad about stepping on them at first, but then i told myself that they didn't give a damn, it was just a part of their life. other animals would step on them and we wouldn't condemn them for it, why should i think i'm any different. ...anyway, i figured this must go for all things that we step on and disturb. it became so clear to me, almost like i was being told this by a more "powerful" being or something.
on my first mushroom trip i layed down in a patch of grass and felt it moving around under me. so i thought of all the insects that have their world in the grass and dirt and how it didn't really effect them that i was there because they're so small that they can just crawl though the slightly compressed blades. the thought made the sensation tickle and feel amazing.
oshk (O-SH-EK) - that's wonderful :)

i chose other. i take mind changing drugs in order to understand psychology (human or otherwise), and to use lateral thinkning to create and concieve new ideas for myself and others with art and science and philosophy. It is an intellectual persuit. Its also really fun of course. but ive not been graced with trying many drugs so ive still go a long way to go.

I like to alter my conciousness so that I can see the world around me differently, put my reality in perspective, evaluate myself as a person, release the shackles we put upon our minds through the television, video games, the internet, etc. and because it gets me high. Psychedelics are spiritual tools and because of that they help me find direction in certain situations.

Spirituality is the main reason so I put that down but except for to be wild and to a lesser degree, fun it's pretty much all of the above.
For me mushrooms connect you to the the unity of the cosmos, acid dispells illusions (about your social/ego conscious self), woodrose is a release of negative energy and datura-though I know not a psychedelic- breaks down the barriers between all dimensions (time, space, astral, etheral etc.) if your'e ready- though not recommended :)
So its all for expanding of consciousness and self improvement really. Especially when my ego gets outta wack and I start relenting and giving it more power than I should.

I use psychedelics to explore the human mind's vast mysteries. I also like exploring the state's of minds that I normally wouldn't get to analyze any other way. I not only look for a piece of mind, but a way to find out just how much I really thought I knew about thinking different, and opening my mind to just how much I really don't know about the universe and its secrets. Sure, I can see past social fabrications, act goofy and very energetic, keeping up with this everly growing fast paced world without getting to stressed to need drama to make myself feel better.
I also use it for artistic inspiration, and I don't want to die knowing I came here, and could have learned something more, but just didn't get around to doing it, because whatever lame ass excuse. Once were gone, thats it, and I intend to make some type of statement through art, and I hope to be remembered. My idea of being remembered isn't by controlling people, example political figures acting like their heroes when they are really getting a lot of people killed. Yes the world does have complex problems, but wouldn't you rather be remembered as a very creative person, or would you rather be remembered as someone who commanded people who are racking up a larger death toll in the world?
Peace - Respect in understanding eachothers differences, and enjoying that respect with one another
Tranquility - A state of bliss, spiritually comfort/satisified with ones ego
Drama - Personality craving attention

I love to eat mushrooms. I mostly keep it to concerts, because there is this magic when you combine that mix of people, and the sounds of music...especially the dead.
I am going to try acid for the first time this weekend because i think i have reached my peak with mushrooms, and i am looking for a more intense spiritual experience. I am hoping to tap into the "deeper end" of my mind.
I think that people have a basic need to explore. The best place you can go is inside yourself, because you can go places that dont exist on earth. I feel that i have unlocked a lot of personal mysteries while tripping, and i love it. I love how everything just suddenly makes sense and the world is a bright place with unending possibility. Its hard to sum up tripping...because its out of this world. Its a new place. And the brain activity is off the charts.
Its something everyone should experience at least once because it is something you just can not describe.
Peace and love

I just had my first trip a week or two ago. It was a lot of each of those things. The first 4 hour were nothing but pure euphoria, awe, and wonder. After that, it was lot of chilling with some friends of mine and just being very present and open.
I do remember feeling very close to the friends I was tripping with, and I also did a lot of thinking about stuff that I'd been avoiding. I finally committed myself to being vegetarian for one, and it stayed with me pretty solidly after the trip.
Next time I'm going to make sure to do something creative, maybe a painting or something, as well as some meditation and introspection.
But those first 4 hours...like being in another universe. Wow.

what drugs are considered psychedelics? like ive heard that weed is in that caagory but i would think it would be like shrooms or acid....what is peotye? dont indians(amarican) smoke it? where do i get it at also? The "classic" psychedelics are mescaline, dmt, lsd, and mushrooms. Psychedelics make you 'trip,' and although they are different drugs, tripping is similar across the board.
Marijuana is a psychedelic to an extent, but it is like a big wheel toddler's bike to a harley.
Peyote is a psychedelic cactus that is very small and takes years (up to twenty+) to grow to maturity. Its chief alkaloid is mescaline, but there are a bunch of other alkaloids in smaller concentration that add to the trip. Peyote is usually dried and eaten or made into a tea. Smoking peyote, though I have heard it is sometimes done, would not produce any kind of noticeable effect other than lack of oxygen. Peyote normally causes nausea and vomiting. It is a difficult commodity to acquire in most locations, and I doubt you would be able to find any. Seeds can be ordered though, and if you want to wait at least 5 years maybe you can trip out on it.

I think that most important thing in life is freedom... And you get to freedom somehow... But now i think that extasy and euforic feeling is freedom... Because every thing is so nice there and my mind is free there (hard to explain). But i think that when you use drugs you will find freedom and then you know everything... So i use because enlightenment is in drugs...

(my spelling can be wrong but i am from finland so try to forgive me...)If you experience any kind of freedom on psychoactives, it is only temporary and as the drugs wear out, your sense of freedom will decrease to a lesser extent of which it originally was, before returning gradually back to normal.
Finding freedom does not lead to full, coherent knowledge of EVERYTHING. If somebody asked you an insanely complex scientific question, I doubt you could provde them with the full answer.
And finally, true enlightenment is impossible while going through the effects of drugs because it is obviously drug induced thought! Therefore, 'so I use because enlightenment is in drugs' could be turned into 'so I use because drugs do their job'.
Bite the thorn, pierce the skin, and come back down to Earth again.

The main reason is fun I guess; I do them mostly for the visuals, the strange thinking conversations and getting out of the normal routine I think in, so multiply reasons although fun is definatly the higest in those, as I already know myself pretty well, I don't believe in any spiritual things being a nihilist.. so left is the fun I guess.

All of the above, except 'to be wild'. If I wanna be wild I'll just get drunk. Usually, I like it relaxed and easy anyway, not wild at all. But, there are many, many pros to the use of psychedelics. Deeper thought and understanding, philosophic epiphanies, the feeling of bonding, the whole world seems more beautiful (not only because of the visuals, also because I look at things from a much more positive light than I normally do), and just plain good fun and cosiness. :)

i use psychedelic drugs to understand myself as well as the things around me. if i'm going to use it at a party it would be to talk to the other trippers and have deep meaningful conversations.
i don't use these drugs to be wild or have fun because i don't think they serve that purpose. although some parts of the trip can be extremely euphoric and intense, this does not mean that it should be taken to become more social. ecstasy is my answer for that.......LSD, mushrooms and other psychedelics are more for personal reflection.

Well, as of now I have only tried LSA, but I have been interested in all drugs out of curiosity, my friend said he was smoking with friends once and I just asked if I could try it... Acid and other hallucinogenics just sound interesting and after looking into them for like 3 years I have decided to indulge in as many of them as I can find. =)

yay for LSA. that's the first psychedelic i tried cause it was legal to buy and i had no connections to find LSD, or mushrooms at that time. in a way i like it more than LSD. it doesn't make you so crazy over things, and you just sit and think it's pretty nice.

self improvement. i had a ridiculous temper and probably some bipolar in there. after one acid trip, my anger was gone and i remained happy for weeks. since then ive done acid twice, shrooms 4 times, and lsa once. i am possibly the happiest, most controlled, and not to brag but loving person around.
and for fun. i drew pictures of dinosaurs for 7 hours and it was just pure greatness.
