Rippers In My Garden

Yesterday I noticed the upper part of a developing branch had been snipped off one of my 2 dozen outdoor plants.
The garden is several hundred feet from my house, and there are 2 ways to get to it.
I know the thieve's didn't take one way in; that goes right by my house. They had to get in the other way, up the side of a hill.

I'm 99% sure who did it. The garden is very stealth, but I needed some help in the spring and hired 2 guys to dig holes in the rocky clay-y soil. The guy who recommended them to me said they were cool. It looks like he was wrong.

When the guy who recommended them returns tomorrow, I'm gonna ask him to have a talk with them. That should do it.

I'm against booby traps, but this is private property. Anyone who sets foot on my land is trespassing. The ranger has a few low-key but highly effective deterrents up his sleeve.

What also pisses me off was that they had to have a light in my garden. If they interrupted the dark cycle enough to fuck my plants, there will be consequences.

And tomorrow I'm putting in motion-detector lights, and I'll be leaving my dog outside until harvest.

Well I deterred whoever it was.
2 days ago I strung thin steel wire between tree's, about 12" off the ground, on the hillside approach to the garden.
This a.m. I went out and saw a kink in the wire and scuffed dirt indicating that something had fallen down and slid several feet. I examined closer and saw boot prints, so I know it was a person and not a deer.
I think they gave up, because my 2nd line of defense had not been broached.

That's exactly what I plan to do if the rippers come back.

But that's after the fact. Chances are I'd never get my pot back. The go in, steal it and run off I'm still screwed, even if I have 'em on tape.
Because I live so remotely and because only 5 people know about the garden's location, I wasn't worried about getting ripped off--until it happened.
All the security measures were put in after I found buds missing.
If they make it around the trip wires, I'm hoping that the lights will scare them off, if not then me yelling that I'm coming out there with my 12 gauge will.
The c.c.t.v. is just another brick in the wall.

But I don't think I'd show the tape to the cops. Showing it to other local growers will probably bring the rippers the kind of justice I'd like to see 'em get.

Or maybe I'll run off a copy and show it to the cops AND the locals.

i meant that if you see them in your garden, you fire a few shells 'at them' meaning you miss them on purpose. they get so scared that they don't want to risk their life stealing your crop in future.

haha, ahhh thats perfect:D . you can buy these 'anti cat' machines that work by a cat walking through an invisible beam, this triggers a very high pitch noise that they hate so they go away. but if you could somehow record a group of pissed off rattlesnakes and put it in instead of the high pitch noise...

Ranger, all the recent invective aside, you made some big mistakes. First,unless you have a severe physical problem, why in Ja's name did you bring 5 (FIVE!!!) people on board to dig holes for 24 plants. That's a lot of loose lips. You are lucky that all you got was ripped off. Years back my buddy the importer got majorly busted on conspiracy charges (27 tons in the over indictment) by the feds when one of his dealers got a DUI and sang like a canary to not get a $5000. traffic ticket. Faced with 15 years in Lewisburg and John Gotti for a roomie my pal ratted out everybody he could think of and then some. He didn't know I was a grower cuz I kept my mouth shut so I'm still walking around while some of his other pals did major time. he got of with probation and 50k worth of legal bills.He sells BMWs in Orlando now,
Secondly why grow on your own property? My 78 year old neighbor would flip if she knew what she was growing on her acreage. If the helicops ever spot it they will have probable cause to search her property.

A. I didn't need 5 people to dig holes, I needed 2, fellow growers/friends.

B. The soil is very clay-y, and was wet from months of rain. It took those two people, younger and in a lot better shape than me, 2 full days to dig those holes. That represents well over 4 days of back-breaking labor for me, because:
C. I DO have physical limitations.
D. My grow is 100% legal in the eyes of Calif. There is no need to grow on someone else's property.

Anyway I found out who it was--a teenaged neighbor. I had a talk with said neighbor. I don't anticipate any more problems.
Yeah 5 people knowing about my grow is not a plus. But they all have gardens too, and they have showed me their plants.

I have been guerilla growing pot since the 60's, I have a pretty good handle on how to do it.

But I live on 5 acres of land. To prevent passers by and some guests from seeing them, the garden is aways from the house a bit.
My dogs spend the night outside, but they have to sleep sometimes.
Dogs often "sleep with one eye open" as my dad used to say. But sometimes they are out like a light i.e. sound asleep.
The neighbor that pinched a bit of bud didn't set my dogs off because they are used to him.

Eliminating all other possibilities I confronted him. He admitted it, apologized and swore it wouldn't happen again. He even offered to bring me firewood to pay me back but I told him I didn't want him on my property again. And since it happened I've set up numerous security devices. If anyone goes in there I'll know about it.
Like it said, it wasn't a large amount, and I ain't gonna sweat the small stuff.

UPDATE:

With no further intrusions, I have harvested 23 of my 24 plants.
All that's left is 1 HUGE (8' x 5') sativa which should finish before the real bad weather arrives. It needs about another week (maybe 2--I've never grown this particular strain before) to be fully ripe.

Meanwhile, back at the palatial ranger estate, I have ganja coming out my ears. There's bags and containers full of buds every fucking where.

I'll have enough left over this year to sell some, so stop on by (and bring $$$), daddy needs a new car.
