With a month or so to go on my first time batch under florecent grow lights, I've been thinking on what to do different for my next go around. It looks like I'll be able to convert the nook beside my closet into a slightly larger than 3'x3'x6' (L/W/H) flowering area. I plan on using some mylar on the walls, floors n' maybe ceiling and finally getting a 400w HPS to boost the flowering. Probably stick to my floro tubes for vegging for the next little while... Was planning on making a 'door' to the nook using black/white poly with a fan in the corner for some circulation. But since this would be my first time using a H.I.D. I'm curious about a few things:
1) How much extra heat will a 400w HPS probably generate? Ventilation to outdoors is a slight problem due to the layout of the room and I'd hate to be sweating non-stop everytime I come home :P Not to mention I've got to run my power cords out from the nook.
2) Any reccomendations on reflector types? I've read batwing types may lose a lot out of the sides, shoebox style doesn't reflect efficiently, and I'm worried a parabolic might have too much height; forcing me to have shorter plants. Saw an interesting 3'x1.5'x0.5' (l/w/h) reflector that was a shoebox style but with angled corners on EBay that was part of of a kit.

Stupid lack of shipping to Canada...
3)400 watts should be enough for a 3'x3'x6' space right? I'm tempted to step up to a 600 but again, that ventilation/heat issue.
