View Full Version : fruit flavored pot&mushroom liqueur

well, last night i made a pretty decent amount of imitation amaretto (mostly used pure almond extract and honey for flavoring, rather than apricot pits...who cares, it tastes close enough) last night with some vodka. drank a little of the vodka plain, too. but apart from that i'm making something a number of people here may be quite interested in if it comes out half as well as i hope it does. its something i pretty much made up, since you wont find this kind of a recipe on most websites devoted to making liqueurs or other legal intoxicating beverages......

basically its a fruit flavored pot & shroom drink.

8-14 strawberries with the tops and inner white portion removed
~1" vanilla bean, broken into small peices
the skin and outer flesh of two small plums
~1g high grade marijuana, ground
~1.5-2g dried Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms, chopped fine
sugar
honey
vodka

i put the fruit and vanilla in the bottom of an empty plastic water bottle (normal disposable type, like Ice Mountain) and put in enough sugar to cover the fruit. i then added the pot and mushrooms, and filled the bottle up almost to the top with absolut vodka. i added about a teaspoon of honey, but considering its strawberry flavored i figured white sugar may be a bit better as the main sweetener in this drink, and it wont interfere with the color (whereas amaretto has a nutty flavor well compplimented by honey, and dark honey gives it a nice golden/amber color). i also threw in some random pot stems i had laying around.

i capped it and i'm keeping it in a warm dark place for a couple days, but pretty soon i will move it to the fridge and let it steep for the remainder of 1 week from yesterday. when i feel its ready i'll meticulously strain out the fruit, vanilla and illicit substances then either drink or rebottle the liqueur.

i wouldn't have normally done this, being afraid of wasting my drugs, but i had some extra mushrooms laying around, and what the hell, its only a gram of nugs. my thoughts are the mushroom content should be high enough that you feel it, but not so high that you could trip. after all, this is primarily an alcoholic beverage, and i don't know about anyone else but i dont like the idea of tripping while drunk. same for the pot....enough so that you'll feel it a bit, but not so much that it completely knocks you out. if it comes out the way i -hope- it will, it will be a strawberry flavored drink with a slightly psychedelic/stoney edge to it. should be great for a party, as long as i don't drink anything else with it. i'm thinking if it's a little too sweet, it may be cool to toss it in the blender with some ice and make an electric booze slushy. at any rate, while people try making their own absinthe with disappointing results, i figured this should hopefully have the effects that most people believe absinthe has (though it doesnt really)

now i'm very very new to the world of homemade liqueurs, but i've suddenly had my interest sparked in an unreal way. this may well not turn out - i've heard mixed things about making "green dragon" or mushroom extractions with high proof booze (its active constituents are far more soluble in water....luckily vodka's still 60% water).....but i don't have too much to lose, except a few sessions with my peice. at least i know it will get me drunk, if nothing else!

i have to think of a name if it comes out well. considering its contents i was toying with the idea of calling it a strawberry alarm clock, but then thats a little cheesy.....too "hippy"

anyhoo, if anyone knows anything about making liqueurs at home, please feel free to share or critique my experiment to your heart's delight. in a week or so i'll be back with my results, how it taasted, how it drank, and how it made me feel.

my one problem that i didn't really think about is that the fruit will absorb some of the alcohol, and i may lose some of the psilocybin/psilocin and THC which is in the vodka....

The only thing I would have done differently would have been the bottle...when I make any type of alcohol,I mix it in a stoneware crock or in glass. I have no idea about mushrooms/pot being added,so maybe you know something that I don't know. Good luck with it...and do post the results. This could be interesting.

Definitely don't use any kind of plastic containers for alcohol; they will react and at some point make your drink very nasty...

If you're familiar with "PJ's" or "Frat Melons", then you would know that the fruits and fungii should be soaked in the alcohol (for about a week in the fridge) before consuming, at which point you should eat the solids and chase with the liquor.

I'd also recommend using either a high-grade liquor (like Everclear or sugarhead moonshine) to increase the absorption of teh "goodies", or use a high-powered (140+ proof) absinthe to apply a more "positive-feeling" buzz to the experience...

...just my $0.02, though. ;)

well, i broke down and drank it early (impatience is a bitch)

next time, no plastic bottle, good idea. heh.
also, the pot was unnecessary. i always thought that uncooked pot wasn't active orally anyway, so i dunno. only so many people talk about "green dragon" and stuff, i figured what the hell. maybe its the result of too low proof a liquor, or not enough pot, or not steeping it long enough, but i didnt get stoned until i smoked.

and i'll stick to regular 80 proof liquor for mushrooms, because psilocin/psilocybin aren't really soluble in alcohol, afaik.

but it WAS quite different from getting just drunk. it made me feel like.....well.....like....

WHOMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! (in a mostly good way!)

but it was just an experiment, and one i'll likely not repeat. i'd rather keep the alcohol and psychedelics seperate.

Yes, the cannabis will need to be heated to activate the THC; combine the cannabis and the alcohol and cook (slow cook, it is flammable) it before adding the mushrooms, of course...

I heard that the heat thing to "activate" thc is bullshit.. but heating it in something that is fatty helps extract the thc from the bud. I don't know, I don't really give a shit cause smoking blunts and eating brownies gets me high. So whatever scientific principle lay behind it... good work nature, exxxcceeelllennttt.
