Although I grow every year, I have only planted a total of 3 seeds over the last 5 years.
Because I prefer to grow from clones, which I have easy and free access to.
But 2 months ago an aquaintence gave me a few plants (Trainwreck). I naturally assumed they were clones.
Well if they were they were male clones. Because I was tending my garden this a.m. and I saw on one of the plants the dreaded balls--something I haven't seen on any plants I've grown since '00.
I carefully check each plant every few days (not for sex but to check general health and to make sure they don't have any bugs). Good thing I do. I certainly didn't expect any males.
Anyway he was immediently dispatched and will end up as happy butter.
So here's a word to the wise for novice growers--check your plants often (every 4--5 days at least). If you see a plant with pollen sacs ditch it.
The only 100% safe way to dispose of it is to burn or bury it.
