oh god the doors is good music.... i was just listening to a double-disc set "Best of the Doors" woooooohoh its good. haha some songs are mediocore but others i feel like im in an entrancing daze... woo.

also the beates is great stuff. ive got the anthrology collection and the best album - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. John is my favorite beatle. I love "lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" because the lyrics create such a pretty picture in your head... good stuff.

mmm.. also great bands you need to get your son some Rolling Stones. good stuff.

ha speaking of great bands get him The Who. awesome band man nobody rocks better. they exude pure rock & roll.

oh now ya really got me goin', hmmmm so much music so little time.

ya itd be great to be there in the past. the energy that comes from a record by The Doors... ahhh just imagine being front row at one of their concerts. hmm.. that would be far out.

in the days of rock & roll the dream was alive. a performer played their heart out. Artist and audience longed to give themselves to eachother. They united under the music. The relationship between rocker and audience is one of indescribable magic. they dont do that anymore. go to a show to see a plastic blonde lip-sync half-naked with a snake around her neck while backups do funny dances behind her....no thanks. Long ago, gimmicks were not needed, all that was needed was this magical love between artist and audience. both dedicated to eachother and rock & roll...

oh im so sorry i didnt really make sense im in a dream state right now but it sounds beautiful to me and something id love to be able to be a part of...

Carrryyy me caravan take me awayyy take me to portugal take me to spain! etc. I have a big poster of Jim on my door and he is such a dreamboat. The Doors rule  , no discussion about that! But personally, I think that Mr. Mojo Risin'spoetry isn't as good as his music, but that's my opinion of course. And let us not forget the other members. The Doors couldn't exist without them.

Love! :)

For true Doors fans:
The DVD The Doors - Live at the Hollywood Bowl - it's the only complete concert ever filmed of the Doors on 5th of July 1968. Unlike other Doors material, this once-thought lost concert was captured by a four-camera crew with 16-track audio (mixed for the first time using digital technology). Released on video in 1987.

Only for Hardcore fans:
There is a Bootleg out there of a Jam-Session at Scene Club NY from 1968, featuring Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter and Buddy Miles. Don't know, whether they are only drunken, but from the musical point of view it's one of the worst records, I own.

I'm a huge Doors fan. I've been listening to the Doors since I was 12yrs old. Just recently bought the complete studio recordings. Always wanted to live in the same fashion as Jim Morrison lived his life, but I got interrupted and had to reconsider my life.

Ahh yes, "Five to One." Jim was so drunk during the recording of that song that you can actually hear him hiccuping, if you listen closely.

Eh, I don't know... you know he did one time lock his girlfriend in a closet and light it on fire. That doesn't sound too good to me!

Supposedly, he never actually showed the audience his penis. (This is according to the band.) He made it seem as though he had shown it to them. Ray Manzarek says there was no way he could have pulled it out the way he "supposedly" did.

But seriously, Jim Morrison was an acid rock god.

But damn, listening to that song closely reminded me why I love Jim so much.Well, it's kinda hard to hear, and I can't remember exactly where it is. I think he does it multiple times throughout the song, though. I'll listen to it in a bit and tell you exactly where to listen.

By the way, does anyone like the Doors' song "The Soft Parade?" It's one of my favorite Doors' songs. It's composed of five or six seperate pieces that were kind of blended together. It's really interesting.

Morrison Hotel is pretty good, although not one of my favorites. I really like "Peace Frog," "Land Ho!," "Queen of the Highway," and "Maggie M'Gill." They're all cool songs. i love the doors. and i have to say because nobody's said it yet that without john, ray, and robby jim would have been nothing. they are the perfect people to back him up... without ray's vision the band couldn't have happened, and shit, john densmore may not be the greatest drummer of all time but he definitely had his style and it works sooooo well with the band. same goes for robby... they each brought different influences and backgrounds to the music. that's why the doors were so good. thank god all four of them found eachother!

Yes, exactly. I especially love Ray's keyboards. They add SO much to the music. Robby is a great guitarist, and he wrote a good number of songs for the band, including "Light My Fire." John's drumming is great as well, especially on "The End" when he does that thing where he presses his elbow into the drum. As you said, Jim Morrison would have been nothing without Ray, Robby, and John.

I became OBSESSED with Jim Morrison about 15 years ago.

About a year or two after my obsession began (and at a time when most people still had an attachment with and fascination for the 60's), a big Doors revival happened when the movie came out. That was a great time to be alive for a crazed Doors fan.

But as with all obsessions, it couldn't sustain itself after a couple of years, and although I still buy new books occasionally and play an album sometimes, the thrill is no longer there, which is just too bad...

Now that the hero worship has gone I realise he was a very angry man, a flawed character with a huge amount of personal problems that he tried to drown out with alcohol and other drugs.

But I have to say Jim Morrison inspired me and changed my life in many ways. What a life he had! He was (and still is) fascinating to read about. Their music was fantastic too.

......oh and alan wilson wasn't the first in the 27 club, brian jones died at 27 in july of '69 and if you want to go back further robert johnson was 27 when he died in...im pretty sure it was '38..... i guess it dosen't really matter... no disrespect for alan wilson or anything... im just thinkin aloud.

LOL... thanks, I stand corrected! :D

It's just that the media seems to have lumped Hendrix, Joplin and Morrison together for the "27" reason, yet Alan Wilson died a mere 2 weeks before Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison died in a different year altogether. I suppose it's because these three had a star quality that Alan Wilson didn't, despite him having sang a couple of the most well-known songs of the late 60s.

What about Jim Morrison saying to his friends "You're drinking with number 3" in No One Here Gets Out Alive. Even HE left out his friend. I have a lot of trouble believing a lot of what is in that book, but it is a FANTASTIC read, true or not.

the doors are an amazing band. they are my favorite and so different than any other band at that time. jim had his own demons but that is what made the music so unique, although we can't count out the amazing robby, ray and john. together they formed a band that is just one of the best to ever come out of the 60s-70s. however, there are the doors of the 21st century, which i haven't seen but heard they are amazing, but i just think it wouldnt be the same without jim. i found a random tidbit that you guys would find rather interesting about the Oliver Stone movie and the band itself..

The film kicked around for nearly twenty years before it made it into production. Amongst other actors considered for the role at various times were Tom Cruise, Jason Patric, and John Travolta. During the time Travolta was being considered he met the band (who were initially quite involved with the possible production), and they discussed reforming the band and going on tour with Travolta on vocals. In the end the band chose not to do this because they felt John Travolta was too nice to fill Morrison's shoes.

~ Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding
Ghosts crowd the young child's fragile, eggshell mind ~

Oh yeaaa I think hes talking about the first experience he had with death/blood. I think he was about like 5. Because i guess one time him and his family were driving thru airzona or something and they saw a truck turned over and these indians scatted over with blood from the accident, and jim was shocked and kepy saying 'dad pull over those people are dying!" and i guess his dad did try to get some help. and he said that he thinks one of the dead indians lying on the ground soul came into his body. and that the was one of the most important moment of his life. Yup, i read this in an interview he had!

But anyways, yes the Doors..they are radical! Ive listened to them ever since I was little but i never quite got in to them until a few months ago! Now im all obsessed, and trying to read any books about them or jim morrison. Jim morrison was so very handsome. and reading and listening to his lyrics and trying to interpet them is very interesting. i somehow make his poetry relate to me or my experiences or feelings in some way. and his voice...aw man! its wonderful! esp. in light my fire! well..it sounds good in all the songs but thats my favorite song of his voice. and ray, john and robby were such good musicans! i could daze out to their music. and robby wrote a few songs too..like half of light my fire, love me two times, and touch me...maybe more but thats all i know. and jim morrison said in an interview that he thinks ray, john and robby are so good that they should try to work on something all musical. and also i dont think ive heard what Ray sounds like singing, but ive read that for some concerts he had to sing because jim morrison didn't show up yet. he probably sang pretty good. So yup..i wish i could of been to one of their concerts..the way they are described seem so ...weird and very cool! damn :( oh well...i guess....:(

I dont' know enough to information to make up my opinion on the Morrison conspiracy but I think it's very possible he could of just started a new life somewhere else. It's even possible with many others...but highly unlikely.

I mean so many people here talk about living in remote communes and retiring to them so isn't there a chance that they might of wanted to do the same?

I 1st heard the "People R Strange" cover in The Lost Boys Movie when I was 6/7. Of course, at the time, I knew nothing about covers or The Doors. All I know is the song stuck w/me 4 yrs, so whenever I heard it, I said "That's the song from the Lost Boys". Anyway, I saw the movie at 13/14 & thought "he's as weird as all get out, but hot" then 4got about it. 4 yrs ago, I was listening 2 the radio & heard the cover, then a few minutes (or a few days later I 4get) later, I turned it 2 1 of the classic rock stations & heard the original 4 the 1st time & thought "wow, those guys did an awesome job covering that song!" Then not long after, I heard a different song & said, "those guys again!". Now I was intrigued. Then I heard the DJ I now always listen 2 play a mini set of their stuff & got more intruiged. The next day, i went to The Block in Orange & went 2 Virgin Megastore. B4 I left I decided 2 look at the posters & just happened 2 find 1 of him. I was looking at 1, then looked 2 my right & there he was, starin at me. I went "oh my god, who is that?" & w/o hesitation grabbed a copy & bought it, Not knowing anything about him. All I saw was the nname The Doors in red on the bottom. It's been downhill ever since. I've had a few weird experiences w/him, but that's a whole new thread 4 a whole other day LOL. I think he's 1 of the most beautiful things I ever did c & the music's just fabulous. I love The Doors! BTW...No 1 Here Gets Out Alive is a great book. I have it as well as Ray & John's books:)

Everyone stops, points up and gasps, "Oh look at that!" Then-whoosh, and I'm gone...and they'll never see anything like it ever again...and they wont be able to forget me-ever"-Jim Morrison...that was a really really awesome quote..and what do i have to say? .i LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been a fan of the Doors since their inception; and this is the very first book about the band, written by Mike Jahn, in 1969 when I was 15. I bought their first album, the Doors, in January of 1967 and am still a fan but I do feel that the band isn't the same, as of course it cannot be, since 3 july 1971

i grew up listening to the doors, and they've been my obsession for about 5 years. i love them so much, their music is amazing. espically the lyrics. jim morrison is such a beautiful singer and poet. but the band is not just jim. robby, ray, and john each put they're own touch into the band. it wouldn't be the same without them. i love john densmore's drumming, it's very jazzy.

...i thought ray was cool because when he played his keyboard and its like he played anything to make the rhythm to the song and even if he played off key then it still sounds kick A$$!!!!!!!!!....
