View Full Version : subliminal messages on the internet?
okay, you know how subliminal messages were banned on radio and tv in the 70's. well, we dont have any laws against subliminals on the net do we? do you think that they're using the net to program us?

The closest thing to "subliminal messages" over the internet would be a process called steganography, which usually involves hiding text messages inside images.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography
, but this is NOT a subliminal technique. The whole idea here is to hide the information so that nobody but the intended recipient can get it.
The effectiveness of subliminals for advertising or other "mind control" applications has never been shown, BTW.

stenography is interesting. i'd never heard of it before now.
you know what else is interesting? the snopes page that you linked to has a watermarked background. i wonder how many subliminals are embedded in that.
another thing i wonder about are all the pirated mp3's and movies and such floating on the ether of the internet. how difficult would it be to embed subliminal messages (like "buy more of our music" or "go see this movie 100 times at the theater") into media like that. probably not hard.
subliminals can be used for good too. for example: look at the quit smoking subliminal tapes or the improve ego tapes that are available.
