Hot Springs in Northern California?

I'm going to be heading out to northern Cali. in a couple weeks to see my girlfriend who's apprenticing on an organic farm out there. We wanted to find some hot springs while travelling out there, but Google hasn't yielded anything worthwhile yet.

Any suggestions?

AH HA! i live in northern cali and didn't even know where any hot springs were. this weekend we went camping and i seen a sign for boyes hot springs.. so looking it up online heres what i found.:D

i dont know of any here, but they are _everywhere_

my favorites are in marin county, near stinson beach...you gotta ask locals where/when they are

the one up by sierraville i've heard of. i think that's the one that's kind of a wiccan retreat. there's different gatherings of different kinds held there various times of the year and i think you have to join one of the events or retreats that are held there to get in. i think some of the events are women only and some are clothing optional and others, at least some of them, are for everybody. i'm not real sure though and this is all i know about it.

I have been to Harbin and Sierraville they are both private clubs you have to know someone or be a member.

Sierraville has very nice water… some of the nicest water I have ever soaked in it is very developed now days it is a new age private club.

I don't know of any others in Nor Cali I have heard rumors of some by Mt Shasta but they were rumors, not sure if they exist.

Check out Vichy Springs in Mendo fo sho. I used to live in Mendo and yeah I loved that hot spring. They even claim that Jack London considered it his favorite spot, lol. Hey maybe it's true ya never know. He did visit there a lot I hear.

i used to live up by redding..live by sac now not much difference but i still havent found any open to the public ones

Hey there everyone. I was delighted to find that there's interest in California hot springs, and that my website was mentioned here!

Does anyone have any suggestions for hotspringsdirectory.com? It's currently focused on California and keeping track of basics and closures, but I'd like to include other locations, even international. GPS locations, perhaps? Tie in to google maps? More photos? Grouped organically by natural geographic regions? Environmental how to articles?

I'm the editor, and I'm going to revamp and expand it in the future, but would sure like to know what & where people are most interested in before I go to all the trouble. I created this directory YEARS ago, as a way to help friends decide where to go, but it expanded and I finally broke down and got an official domain of it's own. I also wanted it to include experiences and timely knowledge (closures, trespassing disputes, road conditions, etc) larger than my own, without me managing tons of email, and so integrated a blog engine into it. It's not perfect... but I hope it's been a helpful community service.

I'm thinking of including the GPS location of hotsprings... I don't expect that the more remote areas will be inundated any more than they are because of it, but it will at least keep people from getting lost from iffy directions. What's your opinion?

Are the book links and other retail sales items annoying? I've only made about $18 in 5 years on those things, so they're currently not big income generators... but I sure would like to find a way to offset the hosting costs.

I'm more interested in natural hot springs, than spas.... and educating people on how to take better care of them.

I was looking at your site and was reading this: There seems to be some confusion between this and Campbell's Hot Springs. They are listed as 2 separate places in the book "Great Hot Springs of the West" '93, yet the descriptions and locations sound very familiar though PO box's differerent. Anyone know the truth here?

I lived by Campbell's hotsprings when it was “Campbell's” it was a yoga community and then Harbin bought it in like 1989 and named it Sierria hot springs.

I didn’t see the 2 different places but the spring comes out of the ground in 2 different places about a ¼ mile from each other.

Where google map shows is where the one of the springs comes up by the main lodge and to the northwest on the hill about ¼ away the other spring comes up.

Harbin also bought a hotel in the town Seirraville a few miles from the springs so one of the addresses might just be for the hotel.

I find the just one page is very long and hard to read and follow maybe an index with a few pages.

I like the blog idea I think the feedback and comments would keep info and conditions current.

Thanks so much for the feedback about both the Sierraville/Campbell mystery, as well as on the hotspringsdirectory.com website.

They were both so useful, that I anonomously posted your hot spring comment (hope that was ok... it's bound to help a lot of folks), and overall revamped the website's index/tags & general layout to improve access. You were absolutely right that it was previously awkward. I still need to cull the tag "herd" to something more manageable within the free technology limits. I'm afraid that the addition of the star rating widget also cluttered the interface with some unwanted reference links.

Is it a lot better now, as far as understandable organization & access?

BTW- Orr Hot Springs in Ukiah is really sweet. It has a great restaurant style kitchen & refrigerators and food storage areas, and unlike Harbin it's not vegetarian only. It's pretty tucked away, and small but has simple lodging and nearby camp areas. Nice redwoods just south of there too... a short drive and not too long of a hike.

I'm not sure about the fire situation, so check with Caltrans about road conditions.

I think, if I am not mistaken, it may be Saratoga near Santa Rosa in the 707. I think its in Napa county
