Here's a technique I've used.
Parts list:
12-v pump (get at a trailer/RV store)
Solar panels (the kind that are used to re-charge car batteries)
Deep-cycle battery (the kind used for trolling boat motors)
9-v timer
Hoses and drip emitters
Input a line from a water source (stream/lake/pond) to the 12-v pump sealed in a 5-gal bucket of water, then a line to the grow area, lots of hoses and a drip emitter to each plant.
The solar panels are set in a clearing, which are hooked up to the battery, which is hooked up to the pump with a timer in-line that turns the pump on for 1 hour/day.
This set-up would run you about $300.00.
Using quality potting soil and heavily mulching the plants would cut watering to every 3--4 days.
Growers are slaves to their gardens.
No vacations.
About the only other thing I can recommend is bringing a friend in on the deal, to water while your gone. Which means you'll have to share your yield and greatly increase your chances of getting ripped off.
I've learned to limit my vacations to between Nov. & May.
P.S. if the grow is in a backyard you can eliminate the battery, solar panels and pump. Hook up a regular garden hose to a faucet, run it to the grow area, use lines and emitters hooked up to a timer.
A timer is important because pot does poorly in constantly wet soil.
