On my recent trip to the himalayas I visited the Norbulinka Monastery, near Dharamsala, where the head lama is the karmapa. I attended some of his teachings, which were very simple and beautiful, centred on how to develop love and compassion in our hearts.
At the end of the teaching all those who attended presented their katas to him and then he gave us each a red thread on which he had made a small triple knot. I have 3 such threads and i wear one, on which I have a small silver pendant of the sun.
He has a very wodnerful spiritual presence, I made eye contact with him on one occasion and it was like a huge enormous surge of energy within me, I was left quivering, my limbs shook, I was full of this amazingly wonderful feeling. The very same was given to me before by my guru Swami Tejomayananda also.
What beauty there is is such people, it filled my heart with joy.
Om shanti shanti shanti...
