I know that you lived in Spain with your American boyfriend before moving to Jersey, and I was just curious whether he worked or not while he was there.
The reason I'm asking is that I will be moving there at some point in the not so distant future with my wife...we will be in Barcelona, and I'm just trying to get some info on things I could potentially do to make a living there.
thanks Laety. :)

No, Nick wasn't working... he could have, technically, under the table, but if you wanna work in Spain - or anywhere in Europe - being a U.S citizen, or at least, a citizen of anywhere that's not the E.U, you need a VISA! Or you need to be a resident, but to become a legal resident... that's another story! Is your wife a citizen of Spain? Because I think you could manage to get double-citizenship if you've been married long enough...

yea, she's a citizen of Spain..and we've been married about 2 years.
Apparantly its not going to be a problem for me to work legally, her aunt works for the Spanish govet Visa dept. or whatever and she said there is a way...plus I may be an Irish citizen by then through my grandmother, not sure.
People have told me its not hard to tutor english etc.

oh, well you should be good, then :) myself I have to go through so much shit to work legally outside of campus in the U.S... makes me crazaaaaaay! Sometimes I feel like marrying Nick right now, just for being able to be a citizen when I graduate :p But it's not as romantic to do it like that!

Yeah, she pretty much said it; you can work illegally, but if I were you I'd definitly try to gain citizenship.

hey thanks guys, BTW wiufcaoltp, what is your real name? I'm Gary.
My wife had some friends from Spain who were going to school here and had the same problems..they worked on campus but during the summer they were out of luck.
WHere did you two live in Spain?
maybe you two should get married,it may not be as romantic as you planned, but in a way it is more important for you than most people, its a way to stay together. Thats what we ended up deciding and its worked out pretty well. Only took about 2 months to get the temporary work visa, and maybe 8 to get the permanant green card. We did use a rather expensive lawyer, but it wasn't as terrible as we thought it would be.
