Ecuador Grants Julian Assange Asylum!
Despite threats by the UK government to broach the Ecuadorian Embassy's sovereignty to seize him, Ecuador has finally granted Julian Assange asylum.
Now the UK government says they will not let him leave the country. So it looks like Assange will be taking up residence in the Embassy right under the noses of the UK government. Sweden and the US are no doubt not happy about that because both governments want to prosecute him as the founder of Wikileaks and trumped up charges of rape.

Two plants, basically, made accusations about half-assed sort-of-rape.
Not to mention that rape, even if it was REAL and not sort-of, for any normal person, would not be a matter that interpol would give a flying fuck about. The british government would simply not care, there would be no press for extradition and no response. They'd say we're really sorry about your brutal rape, now please go away, we have things to do that actually matter.

That is what is so fucking annoying about this whole thing. The guy's no international terrorist or gun runner or anything. Are governments really so frightened of his power, of what he knows, of what he has threatened to expose? Are they really going to revoke diplomatic status to get access to him? It has farse stamped all over it. It's just a travesty that a guy's liberty is at stake!

as soon as he steps foot on a helicopter, he's fucked. any form of vehicle, even diplomatic ones, no longer count as ecuadorian soil, so he no longer has their protection. he's sort of stuck. but bravo ecuador, very well played indeed

The Ecuadorian Embassy is now surrounded by a few dozen police ready to take Julian Assange into custody if he should try to leave the embassy.
Ecuador has refused to budge on the asylum they granted Assange, so this is now an international crisis of some sort.
I think the over-reaction of the British just proves how politically motivated the charges are against Assange.
