Legalize marijuana and treat it like alcohol

"I really believe we should treat marijuana the way we treat beverage alcohol," the 81-year-old Robertson said Wednesday. "I've never used marijuana and I don't intend to, but it's just one of those things that I think: this war on drugs just hasn't succeeded."

"It's completely out of control," he continued. "Prisons are being overcrowded with juvenile offenders having to do with drugs. And the penalties, the maximums, some of them could get 10 years for possession of a joint of marijuana. It makes no sense at all."

Reparations may still be in effect, but they will never undo what was done! I believe that the white settlers/politicians/military were wrong to do what they did to the native americans, and no amount of casino permits, worthless land grants, subsidized health care, or welfare will make any difference. The damage was done, and it's irreversible. So, now in present day, the descendants of those same misguided criminals are perpetrating their crimes in other countries, under the guise of national / international security and/or commerce. It's still the same story: we don't want anything to do with you, we just want what you have! Having grown up in the 1950's, and having seen what the US Government can do when its citizens turn a blind eye to the truth, I feel that the downward trajectory of the country took a radical plunge after Dwight Eisenhower left office, and it hasn't recovered yet! And neither Obama, nor Romney, nor any others, including the ingenuous senator Ron Paul, can right the sinking ship. Canada has, for years, looked to the USA with finger-pointing and derision, wanting to blame us for all the ills in the world, their country, included. Guess what? The fools who've been at the helm up north have xeroxed our mistakes, and filed them as their own! The Canadians have been living in a glass house, and now the rocks are returning to their source. Sad, isn't it?

As a professing Christian, I have, for years, disregarded Pat Robertson's rants as just that; the rants of an aging, disintegrating mind. I used to respect him and his opinions, but for the last couple of decades, that respect has dwindled. However, I do agree with him in this particular area; the "drug war" is a farce, and has served to ruin the lives of more people than the "evil drug" marijuana! I'm on Pat's side on this issue!
