Radioactive Police Cars Now Equipped with Radiation Detectors

Connecticut state police pulled over a man for being radioactive. It seems the police now have radiation detectors in their cruisers. What next for our paranoid society?

Quote:
Apatow, who'd experienced a recent spike in his blood pressure, had a nuclear stress test at Cardiology Associates of Fairfield County in Trumbull. In the test, a small amount of a radioactive material is injected into the veins and used to help track blood flow to the heart. Though the amount of radioactive material used in the test is relatively low -- equal to a few X-rays or a diagnostic CT scan -- it was enough to set off a radioactivity detector in the state police car.

What's also weird is that the doctor actually handed him a note just in case this sort of Orwellian surveillance should occur. The note says that he had a radiation procedure and thus he should be excused from getting into trouble with Big Brother.

Man, doctors notes are like "Get out of Jail Free" cards these days...

Wow. I'm gonna have to stop carrying around my deconstructed smoke detectors.

I'd like to know the money spent vs results from patrol cars scanning for radioactivity...

when they have them people say its a waste of money

then when they investigate the dirty bomb that contaminates half of California and find out the material was shipped across the country in a 73 caprice wagon they say why the fuck doesnt anyone have detectors for this shit?

I think it's ok for them to use the radioactive detectors. They will probably not detect any real problems, but in principle they could stop a dirty bomb or a nuclear device

while the cost may not justify the benefits, overall, the benefit to public safety justifies the potential hassle to innocent people, as long as they don't freak out on you for having had a legitimate medical procedure

I'm much more worried about journalists and legal observers being arrested at protests/ protest suppression tactics

that and the use of FBI and other security agencies to carry out political dirty work. FBI was digging dirt on Spitzer, most likely because the banks wanted him out of the way
