Prop 8 Struck Down as Unconstitutional
In a 2-1 split, the US 9th Circuit Appeals Court struck down prop 8. Proposition 8 was California's ban on same sex marriage. This doesn't mean that gays can marry, and it doesn't apply to other states.
Quote:
|
"Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples," states the opinion written by Judge Stephen Reinhardt, one of the court's most liberal judges.

Good to see, but I really would prefer to see gay marriage be approved by voters instead of by a handful of judges. Still such a backwards country.

I don't understand what the issue is in the States. Do people honestly believe that same-sex marriage somehow degrades the bond of marriage between opposite-sex couples? If not, why do they care what the genders of two people in love are? Is this a religious issue? I'm from Canada, and we are proud of our support of homosexuals.

It's a "ZOMG it will hurt the kids and corrupt family values" issue. You know what hurt American society? Vietnam did. Destroyed millions and millions of families. The losses of life directly from the war weren't that much, but the mental losses were devastating.

I mean, I guess this is cool. I got really excited when I first started reading this online earlier today but than I got to the part where it said they still can't get married. *sighs*
Maybe someday people will lighten up and accept everyone...

I'm happy to believe they all had some value.
