My 4th Kind movie review...
I saw the 4th Kind twice this week. There is a lot of hype about that film right now about the credibility of the footage. There are several things I have to say about it if you get the chance to see it. One, it's disturbing which stays in the general consensus of belief about the film. The other part is the controversial idea due to the so called "actual footage".
As a film student I know there are sides that support the actual footage for privacy of the people and in film that MUST be followed due to the laws of film-making. So what people say about it not being credible are either non-believers or are illiterate to the laws behind film making and didn't take that into consideration before making a judgment about the film. People do have the tendency to cling to their faith in the belief system according to their own personality. Thus in the end it's left up to interpretation and what you believe in. This being said about truth in film and the way our population thinks and behaves as a whole this would be the best way to portray actual events in reinactment if it completely insulted our belief system which includes the Church. For privacy concerns- people, locations, and job descriptions MUST get changed to protect the identity. It is my belief the real people behind the events would be harassed beyond any yet documented harassment and possibly widespread panic and death.
So, "if" this film is actual and real, the "real event" people will automatically remain hidden. Furthermore when actual DVD's come out for the films possibly and hopefully there will be behind the scenes footage. That will help support the story but yet unfortunately since most of us are not part of the behind the scenes "politics" of film and government the entire truth may be distorted due to the corruption of our ways of life.
As one point of the film says however, "follow the facts", and there is a lot of fact even if the story alone was fictitious. That alone, makes it more disturbing. The footage of the "actual events" are truly disturbing as I look at acting aspects. If the "Dr." was a payed actor, she deserves an Oscar for the performance as it was the most believable job I have seen regarding her emotions as I personally have yet to see an actor portray such sorrow, hollowness, and fear that real.
I encourage you to see it however, I think it's a must see. I as well as the maker and Milla Jovovich who plays the Doctor will still say that it's left up to you to believe in whatever you want to believe.
This is all the energy I have right now to type down my review on the film. Maybe in time I will follow up on this and put more of what I know into it which may include the history of the tablets that are in the film. There is a great deal of evidence in those as it dates prior to when the Bible was written. It's a part of our history that has been here the longest. Again, follow the facts.

There has been a lot of rumor from what I've seen about that. Without knowing for sure, I cannot judge or say nor can anyone else without being a direct witness of it or having complete fact. That goes for any event. I still have research to do with it and someone else in my film school whom I saw it with are looking into it more for the "facts" of the film-making. Rumor destroys a lot so it's going to be delicate and a painstaking process as we have film finals going on right now and as for right now there isn't enough information to support the rumors on both sides. If it's a marketing ploy it's very intelligent as it makes people curious to watch it as there currently is a ton of with-held information.
The best source to answer that question is to find a direct face to face interview with the producers/director of the film. The distributor was Universal Pictures and I would instantly discredit anything that was said of someone claiming to work for Universal unless again- a face to face interview with the man who signed up to allow the film to be made under the name of Universal as it's a huge distributor with a ton of workers.
Time will of course tell as it always does. Right now in Colorado there is a petition movement to take and allow all the information the government has on Alien activity to be made known to the public and the communities as there has been more evidence of events outside of that movie that has been claimed as genuine by one of my school's professors. My film friend has an opportunity to make a documentary on the guy who was a part of it and that may still happen depending. There's a ton of work that goes into film that the public does not really know about.
Again, this is just my review with my current knowledge of film, the laws with it, and my current information of the movie. Follow the facts and see what you come up with.
I suppose, legally, they must state whether or not the footage is real and where it was obtained but I also remember the first time I was fooled by something being marketed as 'based on real' events. Don't remember the movie but it was a considerable number of years ago so I know they can quite freely give a prologue stating this and we just have to take it with a grain of salt until research shows otherwise.
don't get worked up about whether the footage is real or not. Art reflects people's fears and apprehensions, which they develop within the conditions that are perfect for certain events to happen. So, if someone makes such a movie, something must have motivated them. That means that no matter if it has happened already or not, it actually can happen.
So, feel free to start freaking out already lol
That felt amazing.
The whole thing's fake. The psychologist it's based on isn't listed on Alaska's licensing board. The president of Alaska's state psychologists association (or whatever) has never heard of her. In short, the people in the town this film is based on wonder if she really even exists. But, oh wait a minute, the film says the "name's were changed". How convenient.
Also, the family of the victims in Nome (the town this film shows) mostly seem to think that it's insulting to make a flick assuming the victims were abducted by aliens, while Nome and Alaskan authorities claim that Nome's status as a 'wet' town (which, from what I've read, is rare in that area) along with it's landscape is probably to blame for all these missing people. On the link below, you'll see that the real Nome looks nothing like the Nome portrayed in the movie; in reality it's built on tundra and it's right next to the sea.
And Nome apparently has about the same percentage of missing person's reports as any other Alaskan small town. I real about this here.
If some abduction shit truly went down, I'd think that the CIA, NSA, or DHS would be all over it. Especially these days. I'm sorry, I just can't buy into this stuff, especially when this film sports the Resident Evil broad running around.
Unless, of course, the CIA is in on this flick. In order to get the masses to doubt the existence of hostile aliens, they've produced a shitty horror flick based on dubious assumptions and hearsay. Although I doubt our government would be able to pull off something that ingenious.
I've learned throughout time that a great many people don't want to have to think for themselves and will easily follow a general consensus. For the free thinkers out there that leaves them in a very tough spot. Throughout time we've learned of great many follies and lies due to persistance. I've seen movies as well that were "based" on a true story. That word carries heavy weight. Things can easily be altered with that. The 4th Kind was a "reinactment" and carries a bit different of rule settings while essentially remaining the same.
Again, I'm firm on direct face to face interviews with the makers. Without that everything to me is heresy. Right now there is none of that on the internet and there were no behind the scenes footage with the actors prior to release that I have found. If anyone else has found that I'd be interested in hearing it as I'm sure the general public would be as well. Why there isn't any already I believe would make a free thinker meditate on the issue. One would think that that kind of movie would have something as it would carry controversy but it's been very hush-hush. While it's not as controversial as Passion of the Christ it still ranks high as it has a very solid history...even when you think about it a "hush-hush" history. It's elusive.
In closing of these statements my final thoughts are this: continue to follow the facts. Facts can be hard to find even though we are in the information age. We have to keep finding new ways to protect our identities. It is in my current belief unclear without having all the details despite other people's research because of the laws in film-making in protecting identity. If one does it properly and well enough the identity will remain hidden; locations, professions, names, comments will all be construed to protect identity. It's a MUST. Think how deep that "must" has to go for complete anonymity. However, in the end you make whatever decision you want to as we always have. These remain my feelings/beliefs, observations, and knowledge.
Seriously though. Your "thinking with the consensus" (or whatever) line is a little off, dude. Being a free-thinker isn't always about buying into theories based on, as I said, dubious assumptions.
Logic is also very important. As in, logically, you probably shouldn't think too much into a marketing campaign produced by corporate advertising douches that work for a film studio.
And, logically, the whole aliens-are-watching/abducting-us scenario can be explained by a variety of severely earth-dwelling reasons. For example, a lot of UFO believers tend to cite Project Blue Book and all that Area 51 stuff, all those government cover-ups and shit. Well, the government was covering up a TON of shit back then...because of the Cold War.
There's also a lack of physical evidence to back up most alien/UFO theories. However, there's plenty of evidence for skeptical arguments. If there was more substantial evidence of another life form visiting earth, there'd be more proponents for the theories.
But there are very few qualified proponents (qualified as in smart dudes who don't subscribe to History Channel science) because there is a lack of evidence, simple as that.
I dig that.
