Sky This is so. There is no place we can say is standing still. And as everything we see is in motion relative to everything else. Then everything is in motion. Without a point reference we can point to and say. "that is not moving" Then everything is moving. At what velocity? That is for us to define using observation relative to light speed. The only velocity constant we know of. [correct?] Everything is in motion... Everything is changing. This Occam calls Time. [time is but perception of change through change allowing perception.] And in the above we are speaking of gross physical mater and the newtonian/einsteinian description of reality. But in the quantum world. Of the atomic particle. NOTHING IS STILL. ALL is furious motion. [vibratory] So, if there was no movement of planets /suns/gallaxies. All is in motion at the quantum level. The NOW, IS motion Without motion. Nothing happens. No time. We do not need a 'dimension' called time. to make things happen. They happen already. Motion. And motion happens...why? We are still learning to understand that. We have many answers, but not all. Occam
Moonlightmadness does sound like he could use some Midol I was telling Sky pink to go though, she's the brightest 18 year old I've ever read, No Physics classes nor math studies and she still understands more, lol. Rules is rules.
Go see a psychiatrist. "Emotional outbursts" is not even adequate for the way you are behaving now. I am not going to argue about this with you anymore; I am astonished at your lack of simple manners. Just in case you were wondering, my "little book" was written by Kip Thorne, who is a world-class physicist, known for his prolific contributions in the field of gravitation physics, theoretical physics, and astrophysics. He received his B.S. from Caltech in 1962, and Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1965. Thorne returned to Caltech as an associate professor in 1967 and became a professor of theoretical physics in 1970, the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor in 1981, and the Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics in 1991 (and still is as of 2004). His primary areas of research include Einstein's general theory of relativity and astrophysics, with special interest in black holes, wormholes, gravitons, and gravitational waves. Thorne is the first person conducting scientific research on whether the laws of physics permit the existence of wormholes. Most importantly, he laid the foundations for the theory of pulsations of relativistic stars and the gravitational waves they emit. For someone who mistakes a degree for knowledge, this should be enough, even if what he says is not. By the way, cool to see you here, HoneySuckle and Razorofoccam! What has lured you out of the much more polite Philosophy forum? I have strayed, but I'll return!
Well in a sense there are no walls since we are not just in a galaxy but a galaxy cluster, that is in a super cluster and I'm not quite sure whether there is anything bigger than that except the universe itself. Blessings Sebbi
Sky Actually this forum is much more polite. We all dance arround what is understood without math. Occam is a math dunce. But OK on concepts. And thus walks in the science forum because einstien said imagination is far more important in understanding reality Than intelligence. Occam fits that criteria. For he is adept at concept/imagination..and a idiot in math. thus he talks of singularities and relativity.. because in human understanding. They existed as concept FIRST..Then validated through math then reinforced with obseravtion. And concept/math/observation feedback on eachother to provide accuracy. This is scientific method... And it works. If it did not..What would we be looking at right now...? A square piece of black glass. Occam
I think you have an excellent point. What we are all after is understanding reality, imagining its grand beauty beyond what we can see. What is can be logically understood. Math can prove it or disprove it, but it has no concepts. It alone cannot make one understand. By the way, I looked up "Occam's razor" because of you a few months or so ago. A wonderful concept; little used now, though, as people prefer wrong beliefs to uncertainty if neither is known for sure.
Sky 'A wonderful concept; little used now, though, as people prefer wrong beliefs to uncertainty if neither is known for sure.' As meatloaf said, you took the words right out of my mouth. Also occam reinforces your concept of 'What we are all after is understanding reality, imagining its grand beauty beyond what we can see.' Well said. Most of us are intimidated by those that speak in another language. And a language that structuralizes reality...MATH. But occam thinks there are those with the faculty of imagination that equals the greatest mathematician in understanding this reality we exist in. Math is the language of logic we use to speak of reality. It is NOT reality. Imagination is the father of mathematics. And the mathematicians know it. There would be no math, without imaginative conceptualisation. Imagination is just as important in understanding reality, as intelligence. occam
Midnight Occam is a math dunce. Math is the human language to define logical/concensus reality. It exists as a language. A few speak it well.. all the rest do not. Occam can define E=mc2 Thats it... Occam
