Center of campus free speech, home to a couple hundred people with nowhere else to go, icon of radicalism in Berkeley and the hippie movement People's Park has come onto Cal Berkeley's housing radar. Housing in the east bay is tight and expensive. Students need someplace to live. But so do the folks who live in the park, and housing shouldn't outrank historical value and green space. http://www.dailycal.org/2017/01/26/peoples-park-targeted-uc-berkeley-student-housing-site/
Berkeley is not a small school compared to the way it was in the 70s. The only way to save this would be to quit admitting so many students and start cutting staff. Or, build a massive high rise dorm. Yea, that'd look nice, you'd be able to see all of Marin from the rooftop pool!.
