Everybody in this thread has been doing the same. It is just what happens when YOU do what you do: portraying like a certain religious principle you say you believe in is the only valid way to perceive things. You know from experience it generally goes like this. I would say you got what you should have expected to get out if it :p

Trying to control and manipulate causes division and hatred. Agreed, religion is abused for that. OP is one of those people who abuses religion in order to cause division and hatred.

“Know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.”

The earliest Christian leaders were unanimously opposed to serving Rome in war. That all changed when Constantine came around.

Ok so if we are going to talk about this first let me say that I absolutely don't believe in self-defense or enrolling in the military. But what else could Jesus' message to turn the other cheek mean? Jesus is also referred to as the lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world. Jesus was a slain lamb because He didn't defend himself. But nevertheless Jesus did actually encounter very many dangerous situations in His life and did not die and neither did He use violence. So let's take a look at how Jesus, our model of behavior, dealt with dangerous situations.

    Luke 4 28-30

"So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him over the cliff. Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way."

    John 8: 59

"Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out from the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by."

    John 10: 39

"Therefore they sought again to seize Him, but He escaped from their hand."

And also: "Those who live by the sword die by the sword."

If it wasn't for those brave Christian souls I might have been born in a desert.

Hail! To those brave Christian Knights for giving me the freedom to grow up in beautiful alpine country with uncircumcised men.

I see no reason why any Christian who feels the calling to serve in that capacity should not be free to do so.

The Crusades happened because the Catholic church said god wanted it. Even though Jesus is in the Quran they fought for years in the Middle East with Muslims. Christians thought death in battle meant they earned heaven. That was pretty tough in the Middle Ages even though God was "all loving".

Their faith made a good political tool. Modern military are not the first Christians to fight.

I think Jesus would prefer peace but Christians justified a holy war back then and they do now. Many modern conflicts are still with Islam because it is Islam and not Christianity.

There is a little background we need to address. The Crusades were a response to the rule of the Turks and ultimately the invasion of Jerusalem. Does that justify it all? No and the earliest Christians probably would have preferred martyrdom at the hands of the Turks without putting up a fight.

I think it's doubtful that Chirstianity would have survived if it hadn't eased up on the "turn the other cheek" stuff. The big turning point came when , Constantine, Tetrarch of the western Roman empire, put the symbol of Christ, Chi Rho, on his soldiers shields under the supposed Heavenly directive "By this sign, conquer" The Prince of Peace became General Jesus, and for the most part that's pretty much the way it's been ever since.

When I was young my parents became Jehovah's Witnesses. But my father was a pacifist long before that.
He went into the Navy during the Korean war but in the Seabees.
He built bridges and whatever instead of being in combat.
During Vietnam I had a son.
If the draft had still been around when he came of age I would have taken him to Canada.
