    I think this is more "make Russia the evil empire" tactic our Goberment is pushing down our throat. It seems to me that stopping US expansion of the neoliberal attempt to take over Crimea was completely justified. Our type of capitalism has to expand and consume more and more. We propagandize that our system is better than socialist countries. I do not think so. Our type of Government just makes the rich richer, and the poor poorer.

    Russia is not a socialist country,and there are extremes of wealth and poverty there too.

    Man... why does it have to be americans. Its not like they're the only NATO country with an army.
    On a sidenote: those baltic states have had NATO support for years. Its not something completely new.

    The US supplies half the troops and funding for NATO and the UN and decides the real agenda for both. We routinely win half the Nobel and Olympic gold medals because we are modern day Rome and the third most populous country in the world. Very likely, those special troops are composed of professional doctors, lawyers, and others rather than resembling something like the dirty dozen and their job is to deal with whatever the intelligence community discovers on the fly like the troops that killed Osama Bin Lauden. These are the guys who could kill any James Bond or Tony Montana wannabe.

    I'm a military brat and have met dozens of admirals and generals and spooks and special troops. In fact, the father of one best friend of mine from high school was a CIA spook and another friend of mine was a navy seal just like his father. Frequently, you don't really want to know what any of them, the pentagon, or the government is dealing with because reality is often stranger than fiction and, once seen, some things cannot be unseen when you really wish you could forget what you've seen. Modern day Rome has its ugly side and when you are talking about 300 million people it frequently is much uglier than anyone really cares to dwell upon including those who feel unable to look in the other direction, but it also has its own beauty and romance a few are driven to defend.

    Not sure what you think happens in Russia? :p

    Obviously not everything depends on the type of government alone. Both capitalism and socialism CAN be great and fair to everyone. In reality they're both subject to human greed, opportunism and corruption.

    Breathing New Life into Everything
    This is a true tale from long, long, long ago,
    And in a land far, far away from most of us.
    Upon their beloved princess being kidnapped,
    Thirty Shaolin monks all set out to rescue her;
    Some never having experienced actual combat,
    Trekking deep into the heart of enemy territory!
    Seventeen, survived to tell the tale of her rescue,
    Helping her escape from inside the enemy's palace,
    Breathing new life, into the love of their own lives!
    Fanning the flames of what love meant to the monks!
    Affirming for themselves, that love rules the multiverse,
    Some had been soldiers who became monks to pay for sins,
    Cultivating their inner peace, the way they once had violence.
    The less busy with the unimportant the more we can accomplish,
    Rise Up Warriors of the Rainbow!
    Proclaim your beautiful words deserve the beautiful rainbow!
    These are the days your compatriots can make a difference,
    These are the days that make heroes of the plain spoken!
    If we deal with conflicting issues in communications,
    Breathing new life into everything we choose to do;
    Breathing the sparkling air the air breathes back,
    Our feet shape the earth, as the earth shapes us!
    Signs everywhere, big changes are in the wind,
    Our fate appears to be to either sink or swim;
    It's senseless rushing in just to sink or swim,
    Find out what it means to give and receive.
    Cultivate your skills by learning to be still!
    Toiling in circles, screaming, and shouting!
    Walk the walk while yet talking the talk!
    Nobody being perfect, we all begin again!
    Nobody without sins casting any stones!
    Neverending Armageddon must implode.
    Our humanity, must be reborn yet again!
    Childhood's End, is upon us, once again!
    Never neglect to remember, who you are,
    Never underestimate, your contributions,
    Never dishonor love you have been given!
    Never disappoint your mother and father;
    Never underestimate the human potential,
    Never underestimate, who you can become!
    Never forget, the sparkling path before you!
    Never take your eyes off the One True Prize!
    Never let yourself wander, far from the path!
    Never lose the greater path beneath your feet!
    Never forget our rainbow follows everywhere!
    Never forget gravity is the source of lightness!
    What can rain down upon us all from on high!
    What can sweep all the world, by gentle storm,
    What can make it all work out right in the end;
    What can best celebrate each new day dawning,
    What can make our new day worthwhile again!
    What can save our futures, for new generations!
    Is the one thing everyone has to give one another,
    Is the one thing that nobody may buy with money,
    Is love, sweet love, compassion, and understanding.
    Is mama calling, and papa yet being our rock of ages,
    Is mama's frequently strange sense of love and humor;
    Is papa's rock of ages defying even unbalanced gravity!
    Is the nurturing of faith, in our own personal humanity.
    Is accepting and embracing, our own miracle to believe in!
    Is acknowledgement, we may know that we know nothing,
    Is awareness, that we are ever greater than we may imagine,
    Is awareness, the wondrous surprises can just keep on coming.
    Is the certainty, in always remaining able to laugh at ourselves.
    Spread the message, to any seeking light at the end of the tunnel!
    Spread the message, to everyone attentive to the sounds of silence!
    Follow your hearts never allowing even Gods to come between you!
    So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love,
    For we are the world, we are the children, of the One greater light of the truth!
    Dancing delightfully upon invisible moonbeams, within the sounds of silence,
    Our words take on a life of their own for all to celebrate rebirth once again,
    No power in the universe could ever destroy our faith, hope, love, and joy!
    Childhood's End is upon us once again let our most beautiful words sing!
    If blooming lost in a desolate desert a rose is still a rose by any other name,

    Ugly Ducklings remain astounded to discover they've always been the swan.

    Yea, Russia is really a mess, and I agree with you that it IS possible to have Capitalism work for all the citizens, but I tend to view the approaches to Governing similar to what the Dali Lhama thinks.. He said, “I consider myself a Marxist...but not a Leninist. We must have a human approach. As far as socioeconomic theory, I am Marxist. In capitalist countries, there is an increasing gap between the rich and the poor. In Marxism, there is emphasis on equal distribution, many Marxist leaders are now capitalists in their thinking”.

    No, I really do not think it is naive. America adopted a "Manifest Destiny" to make the world a Capitalist system. We have caused havoc and destruction in the process. Tell me otherwise.

    the naivete creeps in whenever you forget that America did/does/will do the exact same type of shit that every other country/nation/political body has done since the beginning of time.
    also naive to think for one second that Russia or China or any other nation is any less ambitious.

    it is a myopic perspective

    I don't really see this as some clash or power measure between capitalism and communism or socialism anyway. So if OP does i agree with Nox: a bit naive or simplistic way to view and portray things

    Boy, now that is naive. The Nordic countries are not at all like the Capitalist behemoths. Like Ron Paul said "We're under great threat, because we occupy so many countries," Paul said. "We're in 130 countries. We have 900 bases around the world. We're going broke. The purpose of al-Qaida was to attack us, invite us over there, where they can target us. And they have been doing it. They have more attacks against us and the American interests per month than occurred in all the years before 9/11, but we're there occupying their land. And if we think that we can do that and not have retaliation, we're kidding ourselves. We have to be honest with ourselves. What would we do if another country, say, China, did to us what we do to all those countries over there?"

    Would you like "every country", as you put it, to occupy our country with military bases?

    Maybe i am misreading it but this sentence doesn't seem right. Neoliberal attempt to take over Crimea? It was part of the Ukraine.

    Your right and I meant the Ukraine....my bad. But the EU is just a product of neoliberial expansion. Here are some reasons why we got involved in taking the Ukraine away from Russia influence.

    I normally find Ted Talks pretty stupid and filled with pop and pseudo-science and utter bullshit, but that's a great one. The all-too-real reality I've known all my life from the inside growing up talking to people who can raise the hairs on your neck without saying a single word. Seriously, many of them make you feel like hanging out with crack addicts is a better option and this guy is one of the more presentable ones precisely because they wanted someone who could sell their offer first. He's absolutely right that the system has to change, but the day of reckoning must come first and humanity must pay the price before finding the heart to insist on doing things differently. This is one reason I write the Book That Can Never Be Written and welcome the next scientific revolution.

    I don't have a problem with our government, but I see what you're talking about. I don't want a war any more than the next guy, but from what I understand the government is "very confident" according to a news show this morning, that Russia hacked our election. There are sanctions as a result, and if you ask me it hasn't been highly publicized, for whatever reason. I don't understand it, but maybe we should fear Russia.

    To me this looks like a tense and potentially very dangerous flashpoint. But we'll have to wait and see how the new US administration will shape their policy toward Putin. My guess is that Trump will want to cosy up to him - that could lead to all kinds of hitherto unimaginable consequences.

    What exactly? That the UN is guarding the russian border of those baltic states? That is a continuation of a practice that has been going for years. That they're americans? I also think that is unfortunate and unnecessary but I don't see it necessarily as some kind of inevitable catalyst. Ideally though it would just be troops of other UN countries (maybe even european, we still have some left :p)
