Strange things you sometimes learn about physics, there really is no such thing as suction. The outside atmosphere is usually pushing in, in fact.

And there is a lot of air pressure on the surface of the earth. You just don't notice it because it is equal all around you.

But I have just one question: When you use a vacuum cleaner, are you pulling the dirt in? Or is the atmosphere pushing it in? Because that last one seems confusing to me.I know the vacuum cleaner does create a partial vacuum (hence the name).

But back to my question: Pushing? Or pulling?

Ok I got a question for you. Is a fan pushing or pulling air?

A vacuum cleaner works on the principle of a vacuum.

In theory there is nothing in a vacuum, so nothing can be sucking the air in, it has to be pushed from a higher pressure, non vacuum region.

A vacuum cleaner operates on a partial vacuum, but the principle is the same.
