How can you "close" a coven?

A coven is a living entity.

I just got word that the coven I call home, even though I haven't been a regular participant in several years, is "closed" - "due to life's challenges and changes" is what the yucky H.P.S., who replaced the founder, said. (My HPS moved to Washington State to lead a bigger Wiccan organization.)

    You can't close a coven.

You can step down and move away from it but you can't close it.

    This is just my rant.

    Carry on.

From what I've always understood, you can't "close" a coven........

Close? That wouldn't be the right term... Disbanded can happen.

Now "closed" could mean it's only operating with existing active members... No new members or ones that haven't been active for some period of time.

She says it started to die when she left because the new HPS wasn't having fun with her gone. It's gotten too expensive and time consuming for her.

I met the HPS. I didn't like her. She was a bitch to me.

Every pic I ever saw of her looked like she was thinking, "Look how good I look playing this role".

    Good riddance.

That coven won't die without you.

I haven't been there in years. My beliefs and needs grew away from practicing Wicca with a coven.

It's just shocking though when you know good people there and kind of consider it your spiritual birth place.

The HPS that founded it wasn't too concerned and I feel better after talking to her last night.

I know witches have a way different style and approach to my paganism but I've always been a strong believer and I'm very vocal on the subject, but practicing alone is the way to go, for me anyway. I find group worship to be really bothersome, it's almost like we are all to be "common" but what they're practicing isn't what I'm practicing and I'm talking to my beings like they're talking to them. We all believe in the same things, yet our approaches are completely different and this is exactly what paganism is to me, no rules, no agenda it's your own personal interpretation and your life to live.

Though I know group practice with witches is meant to be beneficial with more people comes more energy etc. :)

I should probably read into it a lot more. =\

It would be ideal to find local, solitary pagans that you could come together with if you needed to raise a cone of power for something specific.

Other than that, I'm not into all the different personalities in a group. The drama is too draining.
