Some idiot approached me in the parking lot of Wegmans this morning with one of those "Awake" magazines (these people are the furthest from awake), and before he could get a word out I told him to "save his breath." I saw him approach someone else as I was walking into the store, so I was preparing to be confronted as I walked out to my car. People who feel that it's appropriate to proselytize their religion deserve no respect. If I had been in a worse mood I would have told the guy to fuck off.

How do you handle people like this when they confront you somewhere or ring your doorbell?

EDIT: And yes, I know there is an "h" at the end of Jehovah.

Not sure, but I don't think anyone is allowed to door knock anymore, my country.

Salvation Army on red shield appeal day are the only ones I can remember in a long long while

The way I deal with JW's is know their shit better than they do. If you exhibit knowledge of the topic, they turn tail and run.
Example; One day a pair of them knocked on my door (they always travel in "packs", with novice's mentored by "elders".)
So the novice starts into her spiel and I listen and then I said "I don't agree with your beliefs. I believe that Jesus is God incarnate" and quoted some verses or something.
The novice starts asking me about it and tries to sell JW beliefs and her "mentor" grabbed her arm in a manner to tell her to shut up, said "thank you, have a nice day" and pulled the bewildered novice away from my door.
JW's do not believe in the divinity of Jesus and when confronted with that and obvious knowledge of what the Bible actually has written in it, they quickly turn tail and run.
Can't sell your bullshit to someone knowledgeable of the topic.

Now I know all that isn't your style PR, but I get a chuckle out of watching them squirm; "oh shit!!! this person actually knows something!"

Thor's hammer usually does the trick.

These days though it's the locked gate with the posted sign at the end of the driveway, 1/4 mile from my house...

Except it reads Tyrsonswood next to the name, and from where it reads "the movie Deliverance."

Ugh I always just end up letting them finish their spiel or make an excuse about not having enough time. I'm too polite, I can't tell them to fuck off. Lol my whole family has the same problem. There was this one guy who went to my parents house every month with one of those awake magazines. His father had been going there before him when my grandparents lived in the house because he thought my alcoholic grandmother needed saving. It became some sort of weird family tradition because I remember one year on bring your kids to work day that guy brought his son with him to give our family pamphlets and a lecture.

I don't answer the door for anyone I don't know.

But we do have a Jehova's witness who has came by a couple times when my partner was home. Thefirst time he handed him a pamplet, asked his name, and went on his merry way. the second time he remembered his name, which was weird, and asked if he could talk for a while. My partner always jokes about asking if he too can talk about being a satanist, but of course when confronted with the opportunity he just politely told him he didn't have time instead.

I've had Jehova's witnesses approach me in public. I usually just take their pamplet, smile and thank them, then throw the pamplet away when they walk away. I don't see any reason to be rude.

Is pamplet another way of spelling pamphlet?

Anyways, I do the same. Take it and then throw it away. Luckily, I haven't encountered overly pushy JWs or Mormons.

Damnit. I struggled with this one. I'm on my phone and it doesn't spell check. I actually put pamphlet first but it didn't look right.

^^^ I have done that exact same thing! :D

I quite enjoyed watching the squirming also, and the "elder" did the exact same thing - pulled the other one away. buh-bye now ... ha

That makes me wonder if the elders are actually scared the younger ones would be interested in what people like you or I would have to say...
