    I've got a bit of a challenge...
I've got a job interview on Wednesday. Due to an injury I can't wear anything on my left foot, so I live completely barefoot. I can tolerate a flip flop on it for a short time, so I could take my worn out old Havaianas with me and put them on when i go in, or I could buy some shoes (i haven't got any except my flip flops), put one on my good foot and go in on my crutches (which i do still need sometimes) with my injured foot bare.
I'm thinking it's going to be easier (certainly more comfortable) just to turn up with my normal bare feet...

In most situations I'd say just go for it, but this is rather different. Presumably your aim is to get the job, rather than just to test out an employer's reaction to bare feet? In your situation I'd definitely buy some smart shoes and put one on the good foot, with at least a sock on the injured foot. Despite what they may claim to the contrary, employers go very much by first impressions. Surely getting a job you presumably want is worth putting up with a bit of discomfort/going against your principles for the duration of an interview? When you get the job, then you can start pushing the boundaries by getting the feet out.

Whatever you do, good luck anyway!

It's not so much my principles, it's that I can't actually wear a shoe on the left foot which is the problem :)

like any job interview question, it depends on what job you're interviewing for. i've never had a job interview where barefoot would be appropriate, but i also don't have the same circumstances as you, so if it's a job where barefoot isn't that unusual i could see it being ok if you explained your situation.

I have never gone to a job interview barefoot, however I did have an interview once where the interviewer was barefoot. She came down the corridor from the interview room to the lobby where I was waiting and escorted me to the interview room and the conducted the interview while barefoot. I did not see her shoes in the room so not sure if she worked barefoot a lot or just kicked off her heels that were hurting her feet, like a lot of us girls have been forced to do. She did not mention why and I did not ask even though I was curious as to the circumstances.

^ there's a pretty good chance i've given an interview barefoot too. back when i ran the pool i never wore shoes, so i bet i had at least one interview where i didn't bother to put them on first.

I never wear shoes to job interviews. You want to bring your dirty stinky feet straight up to the situation so they can just dismiss you on the spot rather than wait for that inevitable phone call a few weeks down the road.

I would have used a little humor such as "I have a pair of shoes that look just like those, do you like them?" to kind of break the ice and put the interviewer at ease.

You're lucky to even get a phone call nowadays, they usually just send you a "dear applicant" email. I I've spent so much wasted time on interviews doing it correctly that never netted to a job. With that in mind, I should have just came in my bare feet........

I hate job interviews period. :wall:

I've gone to exactly one job interview barefoot. And it only worked because I was a dumbass teenager. In high school I applied for a life guard job at the local pool. My dad insisted at the last minute that I "dress nice." To me that meant bare feet (because it was summer and I was always barefoot), swim trunks (because I wanted to go swimming after the interview) and a random collared polo shirt (because that was nicer than the t-shirt I'd usually wear). Yeah, I looked smart alright. Fortunately the college kid doing the "interview" hired me on the spot, so no harm done. But my dad was pissed when he realized that my idea of interview attire didn't really match his idea!

So I'd recommend not going the barefoot route, unless you're a dumbass teenager applying for a lifeguarding job.
