Hey everyone. I am totally fascinated by all these new career paths that the internet has brought, like being a blogger or a "youtuber", if that is the right job title. It is so interesting to me that these jobs have become as lucrative as they are, mainly because I just can't figure out how these people actually make money. Does anybody know? It always looks like they are doing pretty well for themselves and doing something they really love. Does anyone here do something comparable? How do bloggers make money? Do you think these jobs have a future? I would be interested in hearing some of your stories!

You know when you visit a blog and a thousand pop up ads come up and you can't even read or watch what you came to read or watch?

    Well, there ya go.

Sometimes I hear that if you have a good rated YouTube video, you can make money off it. And I look at all the garbage that produces said money and think to myself, well hey I can make something just as pathetic and get money too right?

I don't read blogs, but maybe it works the same way. You get enough people talking about it, you catch the right audience... kinda works out for you? :)

I agree, sometimes you look at certain blogs and youtube videos and can't believe someone is making money from it. On the other hand I do admire the quality of others. Particularly on youtube some people create content that is of a great standard. So do youtubers get money per view or per like and stuff like that?

If you have a blog you can have affiliate marketing links to places such as Amazon. You then get a percentage of stuff people buy when they use your link. Easy money but probably not much in a lot of cases.

For a minority it could stay a steady source of income. For most it seems an easy way to make money but they will actually struggle to do so on the long term.

I reckon you have to stay on top of things in originality, quality and up to date/newsworthy, all depending on the specific content and focus of your blog of course. You can also attract enough followers/viewers by the way you present your content. Or you have to be really impressive in the aspect of quantity, like sharing vids, news/rumors or pics of a certain subject you know people will look for :p But then you still have to be lucky because many people that lack originality and quality would try going for it that way.

I think youtube ad revenue might be something like $10 per 1 million views. So you need 100's of millions of view per month to make good money. Or 10's of millions plus additional sponsor investments.

hmm, i always assumed people just did that stuff as more of a hobby. the few "professional" writers, i figured were affiliated with a company, like a newspaper or magazine.

I think for a lot of bloggers it also helps that they get so much free stuff sent to them right? I know if I got sent free makeup and clothes that would cut a large cost for me every month ;). So i guess even for those that just do it as a hobby, it still actually saves quite a bit of money. But there are quite a few who do it full time too. I read this article about how Youtubers make their money, and I think it does seem like it is mostly from letting companies post their adverts on their videos and being paid to mention something in their video. That's fine as long as they are upfront about it and only promote stuff they actually like, but I bet loads just promote any rubbish. I always think it is funny to imagine someone who's job is Youtube trying to explain what they do to their grandma [IMG]

PS: I read somewhere that the Kardashians get paid upt to $400,000 for a single Instagram post! :dizzy2:

    Like everything else

For each successful vlogger you hear about there are 100000 tryhards that aren't successful you never hear about.

It's just dumb luck, picking the right niche at the right time, correct business strategy after then initial luck. But doesn't matter what advice they crap on about after, that initial step was just dumb luck.

Then of course you have to watch out for them trying to make money out of poor saps by giving their advice

    Honestly PenguinsFan13 is right.

Content is king. I'm not going to elaborate too much because you can find this information by googling, but find a niche, and post lots of content. Have a great clean looking website and active interesting posts, and spam them on social media til you get a following. By having specific posts you'll be able to tailor your add's much more and get a much larger percentage of purchasing revenue.

So be specific and interesting and have a good looking site. Bonus points if you can have people contribute to it.

The many site with tons of random spamming ad's pay are only making pennies per the thousands of ads, so those aren't really great business models and make less money. But they're easier to do than having to be interesting.

There are actually a lot of factors that come into play when we talk about making money on Youtube. Although it is quite difficult to have an exact figure of how much you make with a Youtube Channel, assumptions can be made using the number of channel subscribers and video views.
