I keep and collect stuff I'm interested in and I throw away or bin anything I'm not interested in, would be the easiest way to describe my characteristic when it comes to this. I do hang on to bottle caps... I have many sandwich bags full of them. Figure if the shit hits the fan, that's my apocalypse currency and I'll be rich.
I am closer to a hoarder but I won't keep it if I don't have the room. The attic isn't even half full so I can collect quite a bit more stuff and not have anything cluttered. If I ever had a fire here I would be the biggest minimalist there is. I would have a fridge, a computer, and a couch bed. That's it.
I'd like to be a minimalist - but find that as I get older I (more store than hoard I think) hang onto thing that bring back memories = times that can never be experienced again - Children's gifts, (they grow up) Sport achievements (too old to return to the sport) item for the Grandchildren to play with / hand down to )Guess I need a House .. and a big, store room)
Yes, memories are priceless. I enjoy the presence of so many things from my past - almost everything in my home means something to me. I revel in it.
Check it out. None of these places is mine, though my place isn't all that different from some of the places. http://quirkyberkeley.com/
Minimalist. I get anxious and stressed with mess etc i've been getting rid of things weekly for months, it feels so freeing. Why do i need lots of clothes and ornaments etc it just means more time wasted cleaning etc
I am kind of both. In my home, I am a minimalist. I don't like clutter and junk laying around. It is decorated very eclectically with lots of art - I painted all over the walls and then hung paintings and tapestries over that, not to make a statement but because I run out of things to paint on so even the floor has painted designs. But outside is another story. I have no emotional attachment to any of my things, but I make a living by selling art and lots of knick knack bullshit. I have piles and piles of stuff ready to be turned into art - old chairs, etc - and then boxes of things to be sold. I get these things free from several sources, mostly dumpsters, and then clean up what needs cleaned, make minor repairs, etc and then list them for sale online and have a yard sale couple times a year. Fortunately I live out in the woods, no neighbors and no zoning, so no complaints about the piles of stuff.
