Let's discuss this.

Who thinks that the anti-government militants holding up in the federal building there are being given special treatment just because they are white?

No. Has anyone here actually been to that part of the world? Harney County is so barren, underpopulated, and deserted it reminds me of driving through Alaska with a lot more deserts. So a couple dozen rednecks with guns occupy a small building literally out in the middle of nowhere. They don't even have any hostages, yet so many bloggers and journalists compare them to ISIS it's ridiculous.

The reason neither the military or SWAT hasn't gone in and taken them out by force by now has nothing to do with the color of their skin. Now if these same hicks actually occupied a federal building in a heavily populated area and took hostages, it would be a different outcome all together. But it's a tiny few government buildings in Eastern fucking Oregon.

Here's a racial dynamic for ya... If these guys had been any number of races "of color" they would not be this fucking stupid.

No I don't believe that's the case, despite their true intent to overthrow the U.S. government, the feds just don’t want another WACO, another Ruby Ridge – so they’ll wait them out.

These idiots really believe the majority of the American people are with them and are trying to spark a movement across the country to take up arms – Good Luck!

Even African Americans during the civil rights movement never took up arms against the country, despite the fact we had every reason to do so. While you could argue there were a few isolated incidents, if the march on Washington was an armed rebellion, it would have been a massacre, and the rest rounded up and put in concentration camps.

I do. It seems like the majority of people in the u.s. (whites) don't care about bad things that happen to people who aren't white.

One doesn't have to take surveys or gather statistics to demonstrate that whites get better treatment than non-whites in the u.s.

Here's a breakdown of the attitude of a large percentage of white Americans (probably near 100% of conservative's attitudes) regarding the fair treatment of their fellow citizens:

White on white crime is not good(poor white on rich white is the worst), but it's better than non-white on white violence - which is somehow ghastly in comparison. White on non-white crime...meh, that's nothing compared to the wait at the slowest traffic light on the way to work. Non-white on non-white crime - "pffft...oh a black killed a black? So what! That's 2 off the street".

The same attitude pervades law enforcement and the press.

In the same situation, without hostages, a group of non-white militants would be dead, or in custody already. Maybe even with hostages (depending on the race and/or social status of the hostages).

Speaking of racial dynamics; it appears Maine Gov LePage has once again put his foot in his mouth...

"These aren't the people who take drugs," LePage said, in comments first picked up by the Portland Press Herald.

"These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty. These type of guys. They come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, then they go back home.
Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we've got to deal with down the road."

The Next Day:

He rejected the suggestion that race played any role in his reference to "a young, white girl."

"What they're, black? (referring to D-Money, Smoothie, & Shifty)" he said. "I don't know if they're White, Black, Asian, I don't know," Right [IMG]

Honestly, it's a real shame that this question has to be asked. It goes to show how accustomed our society has become to race related issues and conflicts. It's gotten to the point where we now expect ALL news and conflicts to be race-related, even when it isn't the case. We turn non racial issues into racial issues, it's disgusting really.

Whenever there's a new controversial topic in the news, sheeple are now starting to say, "If that person causing the problem was (Insert Race Here) , the police and justice system would be handling this a lot differently!"

When you talk like this, you insinuate racial division and conflict when it totally isn't necessary. And I think such statements are racist in of themselves.

This issue isn't race related in and of itself, but seems like one is sticking one's head in the sand to ignore the fact that white people receive preferential treatment in the country.

Not even this country specifically, it seems like racism or some other kind of hateful ism is pretty inherent to human nature. Majority rules everywhere.

I think in America racism can present itself in very subtle ways. It isn't like law enforcement involved is making a conscience decision to play nice with these guys because they're white, but I don't believe for a second the situation would be handled identically if this was a group of militant black men.

As someone who came from a struggling, working class white family I've never particularly liked the term white privilege, but it exists and this is a good example of it.

Nobody is disagreeing with that, but these are very true and valid points:

Exactly, by constantly focusing on it, it will always be an issue.
Recently watched an episode of a lame show called the Idiottest where they pit different "teams" against one another. Well it was dating couples vs friends. The dating couple were lesbians. Not one word, mention, raised eyebrow, or joke was made, they were just a dating couple.
THAT is how attitudes will change in this country, whenever people of different races, sexual preferences or whatever are dealt with and portrayed as just regular folks. Even when well meaning idiots want to do lame shit like applaud gay couples for being open or some lame shit, it is still derogatory in nature and helps to perpetuate the issues.

a lot of the seemingly "positive" focus helps to perpetuate the negative.

and 6-eyed is correct, sadly people have come to expect shit to always be racially motivated and some people, even some members here, seem to be genuinely disappointed when it isn't about race and do their damnedest to make it a race issue.
THOSE type of people are just as much a cancer as the morons wearing the hoods and sheets.

If you want to get certainty about this just find a couple of black people willing to join in. They're asking for all kinds of support right? :p

The problem with not focusing on racial issues is something like ferguson happens and only white people are surprised. White people come out and say stuff like, "well, I don't think America has a problem with racism, I get along with my black friends just fine." But black people have the opposite reaction, they come out after something like ferguson and try to speak out to their white friends and tell them stuff like this has been happening all along.

I agree with the premise that we shouldn't focus on race, but I disagree with the premise that we shouldn't focus on racism. There is a difference.

But overall I agree that this particular incident doesn't have much to do with race. It doesn't have much to do with fuck all.

I agree and that is what I intended to convey.
Sadly though often folks who believe they are doing "the right thing" often just add fuel to the fire.
a couple of members here are prime examples, but can't name names or I'll get a slap on the wrist with the ruler again....[IMG]

I have to wonder what would happen if a couple of anti-government militant blacks/mexicans/muslims tried to enter that compound with their guns... You know, just to show their support and help out.

Right on Mister T, I think this incident is an example of racism today. Any other type of can, as in African, Mexican, Moroccan, etc. would have been met with heavy response from SWAT teams with the hour. If 150 armed Black men took over a federal building, they would be killed as quickly as Tamir Rice was killed, and he got a one second order to drop the gun or be killed. These White dudes have been strutting with AR15 rifles around that federal refuge compound for days, man.

That's not what I was suggesting and that's not my point.

With the situation as it stands right now, what would happen if someone that "didn't look like these guys" showed up to help out?
