    I was 10, wishing I was 20.

Lets see... that would now make me... DEAD!

Sounds good. I'm still wishing I was 20 back then.

    Dammit!

I was 13, living on the other side of the country, just finding out what hippies are. Been a fan ever since.

When I was 16 we had to move to Alabama so my Dad could do some air force shit. We lived in Wetumpka, just north of the capital, a humid hell hole they call Montgomery. Moving there destroyed the summer I had planned in San Francisco. Instead I'm stuck in a burb of a town that won't even allow rock concerts. We had to drive to Birmingham or Atlanta for concerts. We'd make long trains of cars using CB radios to keep it all together.

But we moved there in January and school was out in early June. So I barely got to know anyone, but I knew some people and got invited to a Bicentennial Bluegrass festival at a place near Prattville called Jackson Lake. I remember it so well because it was also the first time I ever got stoned! I got a nickel bag off a guy from school. Then I picked up some strawberry papers from the African Head Shop on High street (no lie, it was there for decades). And I went to the festival with a couple of classmates.

So we parked in a huge field and had to hoof it to the park. The first band wasn't even set up yet and they were playing a cassette of Fleetwood Mac over and over. After a beer and some wandering I met a girl who was from Slapout, a place really called Slapout. I asked if she wanted to get high and we went into the woods. I had never rolled a joint before, so I just did it the way I saw on western flicks. Stuff was falling out both ends, but it burned, and we got high. Then we ran around the woods naked for a while as the sounds of the festival got louder.

I barely remember the rest of being 16 other than passing my license test and the first time I heard Disco in the stereotypical context. But Disco is another story.

Pounding my pud in San Rafael I guess. It was a tad too early for me so I just went with 16.

I was 7 years old = born in 1960, watching one of my older brothers go to the Atlanta Pop Festivals and seeing him hitchhike to Woodstock. I idealized him and his friends and completely romanticized the era.

I was 17 in the summer of love but the sixties didn't really take off in Ireland.. I went off to Italy to be an au pair for a couple of years & the hippie movement was getting under way when i came home.. my brother, sister & I took to the life like ducks to water.. two other sisters didn't & they're still the 'straights'.. we paved the way for so many things that have become mainstream..

I was 7. But three years later I traded my skateboard, and mini bike, to a neighbor kid for his big brothers copy of the Woodstock Album. The rest is history, as they say. :-b
