Hi! I haven't posted on hipforums in a couple years, but it's already feeling good to be back! I'm here today because my 20 month old son is currently being diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The doctors have told us, so far, that he has a large area of cystic encophelomacia (sp?) involving the frontal, temporal, and parietal lobe on the left side of his brain which is currently limiting the motor functions in the right side of his body. This was apparently caused by a prenatal stroke. He goes to physical and occupational therapy which is really seeming to help him. I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips or opinions of other things that we should be doing for him. Thank you!
Thank you! I am very blessed. His case seems to be mild. He's a happy, sweet boy and his therapist say he's very determined. He's a light in my life, no doubt!
I'm interested in any stories or information you may have. I'd love to hear how others have overcome the obstacles or just anything you'd like to share!
My grown niece has CP and so does her husband. I don't know much about her treatments as a child. I just remember her having a back brace for a while; and as an adult she wore finger braces. CP doesn't stand in either of their ways. They do everything they want to. They have 2 beautiful, adopted Korean children.
Thank you for sharing! that's so good to hear that they are both raising a family of their own! Do you remember if the braces seemed to help your niece much? Especially the finger braces. They have spoken about braces with me a few times for his leg, but he tends to neglect his right hand almost completely - I'm winding if something like that would help him improve his mobility. They have also mentioned some kind of a restrictive brace on his left arm to encourage him to use the other. That seems a little man to me, but if it helps them I suppose it would be beneficial. Thank you again.
