there's several states with minimum wage higher than $8.50, i was just pointing out that unless he lived in the one state where minimum wage was exactly $8.50, he must have been making better than minimum for where he was located.
I do not ever go there but I would venture to say that their "yearly profits" would dictate that they are indeed WELL RUN and efficient....just a guess
Incredible. In 1985 I was making $2.50 an hour working at a grocery store. (That's $5.66 adjusted for inflation.) I bet automation will be the thing in SF in years to come.
I was making $10.80 per hour, capped at 40 paid (but overtime expected) in Colorado, five years ago. The good folks at Taco Bell make more now, here.
I don't shop much at Walmart.. very rarely and for simple things like toilet paper and that's if I can't find it cheaper anywhere else (which is becoming rare, Walmart is getting expensive.) There are also places that will match Walmarts prices, if you ask. 95% of my groceries come from local farmers/Amish stores/my back yard/family owed butcher shops. The other 5% either some other shopping center. Walmart sales suck also. There clearance items are not really clearance either... for a few cent more I can buy new.
Each of the Walmart children are worth around 20 billion dollars. They have a personal bunker for the apocalypse that cost tens maybe hundreds of millions to build. Yet they still feel it's not cost effective to pay a livable wage or give health care. The employees themselves actuly contribute more to that. They can volunteer a portion of their pay check to go into a fund in case another employee has a family medical emergency. The Walmart kids gave $10,000 ONE time meanwhile the employees give millions when all added up. 10,000 is nothing to them, not even what a penny is to the common man. 10,000 is not even a lot of money in the American health care system. If you are lucky it pays for one or two days in an Emergency Room. Because they are paid so little many employees still need goverment assistance like food stamps and they are encouraged to seek it by Walmart. I wonder if all these people who bitch about the people who get that help because they are "too lazy to work" understand things like this. Walmart actuly depends on the goverment to pay its employees or give a "hand out" as those who dislike social welfare programs would call it. They use sweat shop labor and refuse to even agree to pay those people a few more cents a day which in a third world country is much more than in America. But that amount is obviously nothing for them. Even more nothing then 10,000. They are everything that is wrong with American greed. I got to the top and fuck you for not being there too. But they rely on the idea that no one makes you work there and if you don't get paid enough it's kind of your own fault for not being qualified. Why does the company owe you anything? Just get a better job. Why don't you start you own business smart guy? Except it's not that easy.
Walmart is the epitome of American Business toward the common family today. They put everything in one store (one stop shopping) since nobody wants to spend time shopping after work. It's a very smart plan they have carried out, really. They are rich as fuch and laughing all the way to the bank while the customers are taking what they are given. This serves both parties' purpose, Wish I had thought of this plan years ago. It's actually sheer brilliance. The balance of control, and the money is right where it needs to be to keep our Socialist regime rolling. It's dependency. But nobody is really getting hurt, and everyone benefits.
You should just leave america and travel europe waiting bars and earn actual good money + tips. At 10$ an hour just leave the country, it's not worth living there, at all. If that's what you're destined to make and know it, pah! I'd be outties quick smart. Might sound easier said than done but you gotta do it because fuck that.
Actually it's better the way we have it now. Everybody benefits, it's basically equal in our individual caste systems. Its a win-win. If every country in the world did things our way, there would be no problems. President Obama tried to show us that, tried to allow all other nations to be like us, and visa versa but no, now we are stuck with Trump. And the world's elite will take care of that situation, I saw it on Facebook. Mr Soros is pissed! New world order is the answer.
Aldi supermarkets (german I think) are actually the most known supermarket chain in my part of Europe for barely paying its employees enough in combination with pressuring working conditions But seems like its still better than have to depend on Walmart in the USA for getting by.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-walmart-robots/wal-marts-new-robots-scan-shelves-to-restock-items-faster-idUSKBN1CV1N4 Walmart is trying out robots to scan their shelves for restocking and finding things out of place.
The further automation goes, the more clear it becomes society will have to change the job market into a system that actually is ment to work primarily for the people who work, instead of for the big businesses/the economy.
Thats funny because the Aldi stores here are known for paying their employees well, as far as being a cashier that is. They pay like $11/hr compared to minimum wage at most other grocery stores. I have no idea what minimum wage is here but I think it is less than $8
You should be more specific. Waiting bars doesn't pay much in Europe, it might pay well in some european countries. But definitely not the whole continent. And tips....a lot of countries in Europe don't have that tipping culture. But maybe you ARE talking about specific european countries, I admit I only skipped to the last page of this thread.
We found that in London there was one place where there wasn't tipping, but there was some sort of gratuity fee assessed. It wasn't called that though... it was definitely called something else but I can't remember what. There was something about value added tax I think, too. Yeah.. We thought that was weird. Being from America you sort of feel inclined to leave a tip even if they don't tip at the place. Anyway, that's true! Not all countries have a tipping policy.
I always assumed you make more under a tip based system, I have a friend who used to bartend at a busy club and could make $700 a night. I guess it depends on what type of place you work but it seems like the potential is there to make more than you would in a country with a set wage and no tips
