The ashes of each member of my whole family, after that horrific car fire. :-( ...oh wait, that's just the remains of some incense. ...and I just remembered--------my family is fine. Ok, the next post will be serious!
The ashes of each member of my whole family... Oh wait, this one is serious! A crystal ball. Back when I worked in the stock market, there was a woman that would always say, "Oh well, none of us have a crystal ball." After hearing that a number of times, I bought a crystal ball for my desk. Originally it was a bacarat crystal ball, but that was when I worked overseas, and unfortunately it disapeared somewhere overseas. I replaced it with one I bought at a gem and mineral store, and many years later, it still on my desk.
A huichol beaded bowl. It has a picture of a peyote button at the inside bottom. Towering over it (well, 8 or 9 inches above it) is a wooden hand carved bat, wings extended in flight, supported by a twisted and varnished branch of some sort. On the other side of that is one of my suiseki--a rock I found which looks like a mountain. I had someone make a wooden base for it. Suiseki is a Japanese art form that consists of nothing more than a stone---they most typically look like a mountain or an island jutting out of the ocean. I have a number of stones I have found over the years. If you go to google and click on images, and then type in Suiseki, you can get an idea of what they look like. The Chinese do this as well, and google images mixes up Chinese styles and Japanese styles---but the Chinese tend to be like straight upright stones reminiscent of the steep, phallic-like mountains of Chinese paintings. I prefer the Japanese as they are more natural looking---as if they are of a real landscape. Anyway, all those things, and the crystal ball are on the clean edge of my desk. The rest of the desk is heavily cluttered with papers, notebooks, and books all around my computer.
An embroidery hoop, embroidery floss and needle, small scissors, a spool of red thread, a package of sewing needles.
