Went out yesterday morning to pick some magic mushrooms for the first, was very little about so must be end of season or something.
I don't really know about mushrooms so was wondering if I can get a comfirmation on if these are safe of not,
Kinda sceptical on the big one, the small dark headed one and the thin yellow one.

The guy I went picking with says they're fine cause of the 'nipple' ontop of the caps, but just wanna make sure.
(apologises for the small photo, couldn't upload the origional so had to crop it down, the stuff around the mushrooms is just bits of strem and crushed up shrooms.)

Yeah none of those really look like magic mushrooms. I'm getting sick of this shit. People, stop going and picking mushrooms when you have no fucking clue what you are doing. It's dangerous!

best to know what you are looking for first. by finding out what actives grow in your area, this will eliminate much doubt and simply save you much time in the end.. soon youll be walking in the woods spot some shrooms and just keep going about your way without even stooping down to take a look.

The general notable sign you have magic mushrooms is they will "bruise" blue when you pick them, you also can hold the caps gills against paper for several minutes and it should make a print, I think you usually want a purple-ish spore print.

I'd recommend checking mushroomobserver.org and searching your location for more tips..

Take someone with you that KNOWS, or show them to someone who knows. That is, if you value your liver.

that is untrue, some Bolete mushroom will stain blue yet be toxic, or cause stomach upset. dont eat anything unless you have a trusted identifier make a thorough identification..

Are there any types of Psilocybin mushrooms which do not bruise blue when picked? I made no claim that those are the only types of mushrooms which bruise blue...

Ive had golden teachers that didnt stain blue til contact with saliva, kinda weirded me out. pinching stems and nothing, remained white throughout drying process and everything. only when chewed was the blue present.

Yeah that's my point, you have no clue and yet you went mushroom picking. That's stupid.

Thee are also many, many mushrooms out there that stain blue that aren't psilocybin mushrooms btw. A spore print, gill spacing, type of stipe and root system, there are so many other things required to make a positive ID and know you aren't eating something that will make you sick.

All good points but perhaps the silver lining to the novice field researcher is that there is usually only a certain amount of mushrooms that grow in a particular area.

With the advice from a forum member here as well as info on mushroomobserver, I made a positive ID on my first attempt hunting for Magic Mushrooms.

Based primarily on that experience, I do not think it's an insurmountable challenge for the novice to find and discern Magic Mushrooms. Maybe I just got lucky but I think if you proceed with caution and really thoroughly understand the positive id's for the type you are looking for, it can be done.

If there is any doubt when picking mushrooms as to what you have, toss it!

Hey just coming back to this post as I found these mushrooms at a local golf course while walking my dog, litterally stumbled into them, there was a large batch all beside a log ontop of a hill, but i'm not sure if these are the right mushrooms or not, can someone help me out?

I took the large batch and put them in a shoebox, only took photos of the 2 different looking mushrooms I found, smaller yellowly/brown ones and a longer one with darker brown caps, I separated each of them from what I got.
