I was washing mine every day, however when MattEkat and I were hanging out, she inspired me to tone down on the washing of my hair every day, so as of late I have been washing every second day at least. I find it is helping with my hair feeling a lot more healthy, and I am hoping it will also help with speeding up the growth of my hair.

If it feels oily, then I douse my head in baby powder, and it soaks the oil right up. Apparently baby powder does not work well if you have dark hair though, as you can really see the white on the dark hair and it looks kind of greyish.

Anyways, I am curious as to how often other ladies wash their hair, and if they use anything on their hair on non-wash days.

Well alas I aint a lady....but I do have longish girly hair :gorgeous: ....and I wash mine everyday and although I say so myself its thick and full and I'll never see 40 again....They say washing your hair everyday is bad for it...but mine is in very good nick really...and I never get any dandruff or anything like that......I never use any gels or hair products though....Just a good quality vitamin enriched shampoo and I condition it every 3 days....I'd could probably do with my split ends trimming though.....Its hard being a guy sometimes :smoking:

I only wash mine once or twice a week to be honest. I do use baby powder or dry shampoo between washes. It usually looks pretty good on day one and two and sometimes three days after a wash but after that I have to get creative with up-dos.

Do either of you find that you ever get headaches from having unwashed hair?

No I've never had that.....My hair will get greasy and very lank if I don't wash it everyday...And it makes me feel unclean as well...So washing my hair everyday makes me feel better....It can be a drag when you don't fancy it though......Its good to rid the scalp of DHT as well which can cause thinning hair and hairloss....a clear healthy scalp is the best thing for hair growth for us Yetis :afro:

See I think my hair grows faster when i don't wash it every day. It did take some getting used to, but I am a lot more comfortable with going a few days without a wash than I was a few weeks ago. It just goes to show that everyone and their hair is different, I guess.

I am lucky in the sense that I don't have to blow dry my hair or spend lots of time styling it. It falls very straight, so I usually just towel dry and go (on wash days).

I wash mine about every other day, sometimes the day after. My hair gets oily real quick and it annoys me so much.

I'm glad you are enjoying washing it less! I actually think my hair grows faster now than it used to, so there might be something to that.

Have you tried baby shower or dry shampoo on days where you don't wash your hair? I find it really helps with the oil.

Oh yeah, I really am. It just feels like my hair is healthier now than when I was shampooing every day.

I wash my hair every second day unless I've been hot and bothered in the sun. I wet my hair every day and wash it that way but not with products every day.

I have really LONG hair. I think one of the reasons it's gotten this long and is still in good shape is because I don't shampoo more than once every five days or so. I was a once a day shampooer until a friend taught me the reason to change that habit.

Your own hair oil is the best conditioner ever made. But it is produced as your hair needs it. So.. if you shampoo every day, you'll produce more oil. If you can stand to go one week without any shampoo, your hair oil production will start to ramp down. You are causing the increased oil production by shampooing too much.

I don't use any gels or hair products either.. so it's easy for me to go days without a shampoo and my hair still feels good and looks good. Hey.. my hair is my last vanity and I'm keeping it long!

The only time I have to break down and shampoo more often is if I'm doing something that makes me sweat a lot. It'd drive me bonkers not to shampoo that out.

You probably are getting a headache because you miss the benefits of the hot water relaxing your scalp muscles.

I totally agree with Blu3sLady. Once a week, unless something happens (pool, excessive sweat etc) My hair is so thick and curly that getting oily isn't a problem for me. But I agree that more washing increasing oil. I don't buy commercial products either, ACV rinse and coconut oil.

I bet Aerianne is right about the headaches, just massage your scalp and see if that helps. Your scalp is covered with muscles that get tight same as any others, most reasons why people get headaches actually.

I'm keeping mine long too Blu3sLady, forever.

I'm not sure about the headaches because I get headaches pretty much daily anyways, but I can't really think of any reason why unwashed hair would cause a headache. Aerianne's theory sounds pretty plausible.

I dont know if you have frizzy hair but that's been the big benefit for me with washing my hair less. My hair used to be frizz central and now it is always sleek and smooth.

ACV is what MattE uses, however I haven't had the nads to try it yet. Ive heard it can be a bit of an adjustment process to use ACV on your hair, and I haven't felt like dealing with that just yet.

I used to use Coconut oil in my hair, however it really made it very greasy and gross. It drove me bonkers and I really hated how it made my hair look.

I've tried dry shampoo and it does help but I don't have any laying around, unfortunately.

Cornstarch works well as dry shampoo.
