Till Death us do part = Somewhat borders on the edge (and even some Brits don't get the irony) Are you being Served = Classic Farce (and (claim to fame) 'my Mum & Dad' worked with John Inman) Dads Army = A gentle remembrance of a time of insecurity
These all did well in Australia. In the case of Are You Being Served and Dad's Army they both have a very square person in the middle with eccentric characters bouncing off the square person.
You ever go to the Jabez Clegg comedy club Wolf? This is going back to the 90's. I used to work there. Used to get a lot of local comedians do gigs there on a Wednesday. Once had Matt Lucas and Johnny Vegas gigged there before he because mega-famous. He stayed for a lock in with the staff one night, on the night I decided to take off... I met Caroline Aherne another night, made a right drunken tit of myself in front of her lol
Ah yes in heart of the abode of Students from Here, There and Everywhere - I visited a few times but never got to see a modern day headliner. When the University bought it for it's Masterplan' it seemed like a good concept, but I'm one for remembering the essence (and there was plenty of that about) on an area, for it is that I feel is required to retain the characteristics of it's earthy rawness (a la' Yates's Wine Lodge). This always seems to get lost as this modern world rushes towards it's desire for a utopian society - and cutting out such basic roots of the tree of knowledge sees (i feel) a weakened trunk and as such a flawed and fallen result - (Just as H.G. Wells pointed out) ... or maybe ... just me then?! lol
