Rejections are not easy for either party. Being rejected can break your spirit, and having to reject someone can make you feel bad about hurting someone's feelings. I've been on both ends. Sometimes the person being rejected won't take no for an answer in hopes the other person changes their mind, and it gets annoying. Admittedly, I've been that guy before. I've been disillusioned to think she would reconsider if I kept on trying, only to wind up making things worse.

One true story that happened to me a couple months ago at a crowded party: I was chatting up this beautiful girl who I had just met. We mingled for a very short time before she decided she wasn't that interested in me for whatever reason. She said to me, "Look, you seem like a great guy. But I'm not up for mingling with anyone tonight. I'm sure there's lots of girls around here who'd love to chat with you. Now go out there and find her!" I was speechless, this was the nicest rejection ever. I had great respect for her saying this and I didn't attempt to keep trying. She wanted me gone, but she said it in such a way that neither one of us would feel bad about it. I smiled and thanked her.

i don't know, it's certainly nicer than what i say to the perverts that join hipforums just to PM me for cybersex, but it still seems to be pretty much the same as the old "it's not you, it's me" breakup line.
