I love music, but I'm not too savvy when it comes to distinguishing different musical categories from one another...
Does Avenged Sevenfold count as metal? Lol

Avenged Sevenfold is the type of metal guys listen to when they want to feel the wind on their vaginas. :D

Nah kidding. Yeah I think they're in the metal scene.

I bought two CDs yesterday.

The new Nile and Motörhead CDs. Haven't had a chance to listen to them just yet but should put on my iPod soon and listen.

No because I don't like being followed.

I just didn't want to go through the process of quoting just the part that I wanted to respond to.

I tried to listen to Iron Maiden this evening while in the garage.
Actually I successfully even finished an album. Think it was the number of the beast, or something. Didn't listen to it twice, just galvanized the fact I don't like 'em very much.

@jrocks Killdevil Hill is Rex Brown from Panteras newest (?) Project.

@Ankin Look at Phil Anselmo.  If you listen to "Cemetery Gates" His voice sounded really great on the original but after years of that scream sound now he sounds like he blew his voice out doing it.

C/S,

Rev J

I am a fan of Pantera and agree with your impression of Anselmo. That whole Cowboys from Hell album he screamed his throat out. A toss between "gates" and "Hollow' are two of the best Pantera songs. Throw in walk only cause back in the day, that was my song for stage diving in Mexico. ahh the days, now i would crumble just climbing the stairs  :D

I grew up in the "grunge" for lack of a better term, and Hair metal. I still dig Soundgarden with Cornell singing 'Beyond the Wheel' Dude had a voice and still does.

I think 'Grunge' is "Grunge" due to the demograph of listeners, stoners and trippers lol

https://www.youtube....h?v=crILNt7-kj8   Beyond the Wheel 2010-still has the voice. Yes I am a Chris Cornell homer  :D

Danzig Another Favorite from that era, not disregarding his stint in the Misfits

I think I really couldn't really get into Danzig for a handful of reasons. One of them is that I think Glen Danzig is a fat fucking douche. Sure he's got big arms but I've noticed when he runs across the stage his gut bounces then he sucks it in when he starts singing again. In interviews he comes across as self agrandizing and arrogant. His lyrics are stupid and cliche. Wow one more singer claiming to be Satan. Then there is the fact that every song he sound like he's trying to sing like somebody else. On the stuff I've heard he has sounded like Elvis, Jim Morrison, Billy Idol, Robert Smith, and Ian Astbury. Not in a good way. And you can't really fall back on "That's just his voice" because when he talks he sounds like Vince Neal.

The happiest day of my life was the day Rob Halford officially came out of the closet. Granted if he was truly in the closet he left the door open. I mean Jesus Christ the dude dressed like the leather daddy from the Village People.

Anyway when I was in high school I was this skinny little artistic kid who was a little high strung and didn't have a girlfriend. Invariably once a week some fat cocksucker in a Judas Priest t shirt would body check me into a locker screaming "Die faggot!" At the time it pissed me off than Halford admitted he was gay and it made the whole thing beautifully ironic.

It's probably better because I already told the miss I couldn't be bothered driving to Mannheim, not sure how'd she'd feel if I went "oh I feel like going now because I plan on meeting a boy from the Hip Forums" :D

I would if it was closer by and cheaper. It's not like I never go see a band I don't care for to support people in it or go with some peeps who do like them! But Atrocity/Leaves eyes are established names and not the cheapest (and I'm a cheapskate atm :-D)

I also used to head into Germany more often to see bands, and will certainly try to go again next summer (stoned from the underground)!

I like all genres of metal if the lyrical work peaks my interest, and it doesn't have to be good "clean" music either, for I tend to think that the worst death metal can be the best death metal. ;)

Black Metal:
Graveland
Helrunar
Cradle of Filth
Burzum
Forefather
Halgadom
Wodensthrone
Wolves in the throne Room
Satyricon

Death Metal:
Amon Amarth
Cannibal Corpse
Gortuary
Nile
Carcass
Diminished
Fleshgod Apocalypse
Zyklon
Rob Zombie
Unleashed
Suffocation
Skinless
Fear Factory
Cattle Decapitation
Behemoth

Hard Rock:
Hammerfall
Motörhead
Metallica
Saxon
Sniper
Celtic Frost

Folk:
Ensiferum
Eluveitie
Korpiklaani
Wardruna

And many more, these just top off my head.

I usually like metal surrounded in mythology and oldern times. Tales, journeys and adventure stories. I like perceptions of mythology and how bands uniquely tweak idea to fit their sound and style or own beliefs.

Music wise I like it rough and raw, lots of blast beats, lots of growling. Aggression etc. I don't really like the high pitch vocals of Judas Priest or Black Sabbath or anything.

beautiful list!
